Where have all the griefers gone?

First, it was the Police Blotter. Then it was a Euphemism: Incident Reports. But I guess Incident Reports was not sufficiently bland. Now it is - nothing. Gone. Vanished. Poof.

It's not because griefers have all decamped and gone to bother There of Hipihi. The incidence of griefing did seem to decline since Christmas, more or less - until a recent apparent upsurge since Easter.

I run an anti-griefer alt, and this report has been useful to me for signalling where there are problems. Granted, it left a lot to be desired, but at least it was something. Now, who's going to know what's happening, aside from the (perhaps unsuspecting) victims? Plus, suddenly there is no hint at all whether your AR was responded to.

If LL is figuring there is no problem if they don't acknowledge there is a problem, I think they will find they will have another think coming.

Maybe the greifers got tired of the grid going down before they could make the grid go down?

Grafitti and tagging seem to increase in the greater Los Angeles metro sprawl around holidays, and especially summers with their warm nights.

A little bit of chill weather and rain really puts a damper on crime and tomfoolery.

Making all the difference between some situational nonsense (Hey, it's midnight and I got my spraycan right here!!!) and work (Hey, it's a 45 minute hike through mud to the offramp and I gotta be up at 6 tomorrow...).

Personally I don't care much if they post stats on a blotter or not; it would be good to hear about quarterly metrics maybe but that's about all as far as I'm concerned.

But searching for attention-seeking griefers in order to spar with them on any level seems like a good recipe for comedy gold. Can't think of a better way to egg on griefers, other than just plain inviting them to attack you in the first place.

Heh. No, not sparring with them - even if they are kato. See, they are mostly looking for victims. When they find that THEY are the victim - they go away. Maybe to another sim; not being a Linden I can't help that much; but they go away. Which is the idea.

Kinda like Eject-Ban, only in the case where there's no-one around with land powers.

French quarter got griefed bad last night...I have a store there and was powerless to do anything, well they bolted right after.. so I could not freeze em... floating footballs that did not allow you to enter stores. HUGE prim covering whole sim.... (which I was able to return) Fire bursting up from the street..... But those footballs.. had to leave them for SIM owner..

And some dude decided to erect his own store on the sim (no permission) then gets po'd at me for not speaking French! kept sending me babbler, which I had.. neway... last night sucked.


What I don't get is why these idiots leave there stuff with their names all over it.... I suppose it could have been worse, I could have been blown to bits or something...

I think they are regrouping for a larger planned attack.

A month later, no attack. Its been nice and calm, and we miss having you in the sim, though all the shops are rented now.

A lot of griefers are hitting Habbo Hotel these days - ever since Habbo Hotel made it a ToS violation to have a black avatar in a suit they've been the victim of constant raids from 4chan.

This week, all the little griefers were playing GTA IV, thus getting their kicks in the most violent and bloody way possible. Too bad the game doesn't have an MMO attached...

why do we call them greifers? have we not changed the name of the suisude bomber to reflect there truer nature? why not use a more aprapoe word for them something like "lamer"?

We've been getting griefer attacks at Grendel's Children. I was there when this herbert in a robot avatar was encasing people in blue bubbles. At least two of us ARed him but I don't know how they run the AR system. How do we find out if anything resulted from our reports?

Putting griefers on a level with RL terrorists doesn't make sense. We Brits have had to put up with IRA bombings and bomb scares for decades.....we've only just got that calmed down and then 7/7 happens. People are maimed or killed by terrorists...griefing is just very annoying.

If you want to read about the *cough* bigger griefer activity look at the Second Life Herald. They seem to celebrate every fart these guys do and plaster it up like a major news break.
For instance the 5 mins dissention annoyance on Sunday. It lasted no time at all, barely effected a thing and the Herald wrote a story talking about sim crashes and complete slow down. I am on a very old sim and had the boxes raining down and I slowed down a bit but that was all.

Anyway, the Herald is a laughable rag most of the time but you can get some griefer news there if you want.

Because grief is what they create; lame is not what they create, it's just a tool in their arsenal. Plus the term "lamer" already has a recognised meaning; that of "someone over 20 who wears jam shorts in public."

I'm sorry to hear that. Grendel's is a cool place; doesn't need that crap.

That said, Grendel's is a private estate, like the Isle of Wyrms is. The Lindens as such expect that, for the most part, the owner and his/her designated staff will take care of them. They only really take action when said person seems to go from sim to sim causing grief, or does something which puts the integrity of the grid (or even a small part of it) at risk. As such, AR them, so their "AR Accumulator" tally goes up and pushes them even closer to the magical limit that the Lindens use to go "OK, that's enough from you, buh-bye!". However, don't expect that the ARs by themselves will get rid of them. You won't get a Linden to come in person and do anything with them, unless it is a serious issue, like causing the wipe of a sim, or causing it to go down and not come back up.



Oh, definitely. I wouldn't call them "terrorists" so much as "bored children". The harm they inflict is often rather minimal and sometimes amusing. Personally, I like encountering them so I can extract my own lulz from their antics. It really lets the air out of their tires when everyone else is getting more entertainment out of their efforts than they are.

Calling griefers "terrorists" is just damn silly.
