there are a number of ways to sell items in SL, you can set your account on https://www.xstreetsl.com/ very popular. or, set up a shop in world there are many malls with low cost rental space, I have even seen some set up temporary shops in public places trying to drum up business.
What type of things are you looking to sell? Doobie |

Hey Doobie
At this moment in time I'm only looking at selling clothes and hair, but will extend to more items later. I have been browsing some shops, but when I started to rent one, I went to the pants I made, click properties, and ticked the "for sale" box, hit the copy box, set it to 5L$ but I didn't know what to do after that. It didn't pop up in the shop or anything to be bought. |

At a very basic level, see I've done all that (except put in an object, there is no option for that), but i can't place it in my shop space for people to buy. Sorry I'm such a newb at this D; |

You'll need to make the object to put the product inside. Just Edit / Tool / Create (or something like that) to make yourself a box, then drop the product inside the object's Contents. Then set the box for sale.
Probably you'll also want to paint a texture on the box, showing the product in use, its price, permissions, etc. (That's the part where you'll need to save a picture to disk, add the label text etc,, then upload it so you can make a pretty sales box.) Note that you can also set the box to sell its Contents instead of a Copy of the box itself. Doing that, the buyer will get a folder at the top level of Inventory, named for the box, containing the contents of the box. (Is this helping? I'm not sure if I'm explaining at the right level.) _____________________

AHH! So That's how it works. Thank you SOOOOOOO much! I can't create the object because one of the managers for the shopping area thing has to add me to their group first..... i have to learn to read -_-. But thanks for explaining the box thing, will I get a UV map for the box so I know how big the image has to be, etc? And can I have like a one sided board for an image that has info of product AND the box that has the photo of it? But, the whole inventory thing is still confusing for me, so what you're saying is for me to set the box to sell it's contents and not a copy of the box itself? |

Rez a box.edit the box ,put your stuff in it's contents .Then rename the box with the item name followed by (boxed).set it for sale.
If you are renting a store you must have the group activated for that store. _____________________

If you're eager to start, you could find a public sandbox to create an object, paint a texture on it, stuff the goods inside, etc., so you'll be all set when the shopping area manager lets you rez it out for sale.
... will I get a UV map for the box so I know how big the image has to be, etc? And can I have like a one sided board for an image that has info of product AND the box that has the photo of it? Boxes are easy to texture: no UV map needed: each face (or "side" of the box is textured independently, so you can paint all but one of them blank texture, black color (say), and paint the front with the product texture, if you want. Just use the "Selekt Texture"* choice in the editor. You can have a separate box for promotional info and another for the product for sale, if you want, textured however you like. When you start having more products than prims to spare, however, you'll probably cut back to having just the product box with all the info on it. And when you have even more products than total prims, you might switch to scripted vendors that allow a whole bunch of products to be bought from a small number of prims. But, the whole inventory thing is still confusing for me, so what you're saying is for me to set the box to sell it's contents and not a copy of the box itself? ________ *Yes, the "k" in "Selekt" is really a "c". You really don't wanna know. ![]() _____________________

It might be helpful to spend some time window shopping at a variety of stores to see how other people are doing things. Qie described many of the options, but seeing them in action is also useful. That's especially true for hair, since it's common for hair stores to have complicated choices (e.g., a demo copy, a single color, a set of similar shades, a collection of all possible colors).
Another thing to do is to create an alt so that you can really learn about and test the permissions. SL permissions are tricky and counter-intuitive. So use your primary av to create a bunch of boxes, being sure to change the names so you can tell them apart (e.g. box 1, box 2, etc. instead of the default 'object'). Load them with corresponding clothing; it can be the same clothing item, but named differently for each box. Put them out with different permissions. Then log in as your alt, and see what happens. Pay attention to the Take and Take Copy menu items, as well as whether you get Buy or Pay. Look at what actually winds up in your alt's inventory, and pay attention to the permissions that result on those. (This sounds tedious and boring, but you can learn a lot of invaluable stuff about permissions by spending an hour doing this. It's worth the time spent.) |

If it's white where the sleeves are, try making the sleeves shorter when you edit the clothes in appearance mode.
Or if too-long sleeves are not the problem, (I'm not sure I can visualise what you are trying or what exactly is going wrong, from the description) you can remove the background by either selecting it (magic wand tool) and then choose it in layers on the right, and delete that part, or, choose background, choose selection/inverse, and choose copy. Then open a new image with a transparent background and paste the part you want, in there and save it. _____________________

Advice on Sales Thread

Hi, Jaded and welcome to the community of merchants on SL.
![]() A forum thread I highly recommend is: /327/ac/274749/1.html Be forewarned it is a loooong thread but has some excellent information in it. It was begun specifically to help new merchants get started. _____________________

and Jaded, before you spend money renting a shop, take the time to figure out how it all works. I don't mean to discourage you, but if you don't know how to package an item yet, then you might not be ready to rent a shop...because at that level I doubt your product will have the quality needed to sell it.
I suspect you have purchased a 'Business in a Box' (items for resale), so be warned that the items inside are usually a: products easily available as freebies, b: very poor quality, or c: (and very likely) copybotted (stolen from the original creator by use of a script) and likely to get you into trouble with original creators and LL. If this is the case (and I think it is, how could you ever create hair if you lacked the rudimentary knowledge to package it), then I feel really bad for you, Business in a Box is pretty much a way to screw over new players. Good luck, and hit the thread Czari pointed at. PS: Hit the texturing forums as well, there is a great sticky tutorial all about alpha channels. _____________________
