The desktop shortcut is just a file of type "link". You can always delete it.
Even better, right click on it and select properties, change icon, pick any file in c:\windows\system32 or c:\Program Files, pick any icon you want. Then rename it. SO you can have a desktop icon that says "Excel Student Edition" with a generic broken file icon...

I think Pep had some more immaginative suggestions for re-naming - of course you could rename to "Do not click" - and make it a link to your collection of ferret pictures.
Just think of the very thing no one would want to click and re-name it to that ...... hmmmmm. _____________________
