As you can see on the image provided, I am seen wearing leggings I am not actually wearing. The texture in question is actually part of my jacket, which has length of 75. A similar thing happened to most of the system parts of various shoes and boots, much of the clothing that didn't involve an empty alpha texture on the parts normally invisible.

When I create a new white jacket and wear it, no matter what I do to the sliders, including pulling them all to zero, my entire body except the face is colored in white up to the fingers, which, I think, a jacket cannot possibly do.

What's even weirder is that others also see these textures and odd slider settings, including impossibly puffy sleeves and pant legs.

While the issue coincides with installation of a new graphics card (Nvidia GXT260) I have another one in my system (Nvidia 8600GTS) and when the SL window is on it, it keeps happening there as well. Besides, unless the viewer sends the baked texture to others, and I don't think it does, I don't see how it would matter, since others see the same. The issue is visible in every sim I cared to check, though I am not inclined to jump around much to test.

I've cleared the cache five times by now while experimenting and see no meaningful change. Neither does rebaking help. The problem persists in both the current viewer and the freshly installed RC viewer.

What the hell, and who is at fault, SL, the new sim version, my viewer, or my card?

System specs might be useful.

The viewer sends the baked texture to LL, which sends it out to other people's viewers.

What version video driver are you using?

You might try using one video card at a time and see if that changes things.

Freakiest thing happened to me today. I went to the hair fair and detached all my attachments. I also put on the ruth skin and took off all my clothes. After an hour of flying around naked I went to an empty island sim and still naked switched to my old skin. My pants and shirt immediately returned with the skin. That's right. I checked my inventory and they were suddenly showing up 'worn'. My clothes and skins are in different folders. I think it's a database issue.

yea i was wondering if the new card updated drivers to a bad version and the older card is using the newer driver, there by showing both cards as having the same issue

WinXP 32bit, 4G RAM one of which rests unused, Core 2 Duo, Asus P5K, nothing seriously unusual, the fresh driver downloaded off Nvidia hours ago, though I admit I didn't use a driver cleaner, which is next on the list to try after pulling SL up on a laptop and seeing if the issue persists.

It's a fair bit tricky to completely shut down a card without pulling it though, and I'd very much rather not.

Version number. It's hard to check on "latest version", you get years of results.

Pulling a card out is what I meant.

There's a thread I'm reminded of but unable to to recall the specifics of about a problem with texture baking. The thread was started by someone with a first name that starts with "M" and maybe the last name starts with "A". Maybe someone else will recognize the thread from that.

Before you do much else try the following:

Advanced/character/character tests/Test Female

Last time I had a similar problme this fixed it.. remove all attachments before you do this.

I think the complete sequence on the suggestion just made is
Advanced/character/character tests/Test Female
then clear cache and restart

Ugh.

Upon starting SL on a laptop, both the impossible white jacket and the borked suit persisted both for me and for others, (does that mean that baked textures for ALL clothing of ALL residents are kept on the server?!) though, after editing the white jacket and saving it, it became what a jacket with all sliders at zero should be - a few splotches of color, both for me and for others.

The thread I was thinking of is /327/de/277080/1.html

I agree on the ugh.

See if https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7957 is relevant.

other people see you with the full length layers too? Baking is such a complex thing. The client bakes all clothing layers into one gfx and then uploads it. (the client then re-downloads it which is what causes the focus/fuzzy/focus phenomenon). I had suspected it would cause others to see it borked, but had not heard anyone confirm that. Try the 175 drivers?

Put the old card back in, now both my cards are 8600, the phenomenon remains -- so yes, I guess it's the drivers.

Unfortunately, the 175 version drivers won't work with GXT260, or at least so the Nvidia site says, so there's no way I'll be able to keep it in until this issue is resolved... Oh well, gives me time to think of a way to squeeze the drives into the box in a different way so that monster card actually fits -- I had to run it with the drive cage out...

you could RMA it or resell it on eBay? then buy another one down the road when it's cheaper anyway. Might even be smaller then too.

eBay? From Russia? You've got to be kidding. :) No, I'll just keep it around for a while until the issue is gone.

Yes, the problem went away completely with 175.19 drivers which are listed on Nvidia's site as the most current for 8 series. Thanks for the help, everyone.

/me goes to vote for the JIRA...

We have a molotok.ru, however, it's far more bothersome than just putting it away and waiting, while eBay would involve sending something overseas. Forms in quadruplicate.

And I think people whom I routinely see run DSL and cable modems when my ISP is a LAN that spans 5 kilometers in either direction, with 100mbit speeds throughout, shouldn't wonder about Russia being backward. :)

is all of Moscow one giant LAN? that's kinda cool. Americans have a different priority :( Cable dedicates more bandwidth to having 999 useless TV channels and internet is second priority.

About fifteen competing giant LANs, which fight over every other block on who gets the service cheaper. Cable TV never took off. :)
