Helo .. I don't know where you can buy a moddable skin ..

Fact of SL . these are'nt usually availlable unless custom build .. in which case you can barter with the maker.

Best skins are a matter of opinnion ..

The reason skins are no mod is because .. you would need the original PSD file..
and have access to Adobe Photoshop.neither of which are availlable through SL merchants.

Got my fave from Nomine. That doesn't mean it's the best though...

Here are some recent threads about great places to go to get good skins:

Hope that helps. :)

If you're looking for mod skins, there are some very high quality ones from Eloh Eliot, and you can also download the PSD files for free...a very generous gift from Eloh...

Of course, all of the other skins mentioned are wonderful too.....

The reason most skins aren't modifiable is because there's really nothing you can do with them inworld when they're 0% transparent (like 95% of skins are). That said, I DO know that CryoGen (or is it CryoLab?) offers some of their skins that are semi-transparent, which means their semi-modifiable. Most of the skin adjustment sliders will work with them, and you can purchase addon replacement textures for things like body hair and whatnot. I dont think I'd call them all TOP quality, but certainly very, very good. My first real skin was from there and I dont regret purchasing it. A few of the male skins I would rate top quality.

Pixel Deep in Hefferoo has fabulous modifiable, semi-transparent skins. Not many to choose from, but you get lots of make-up and hair color options with each. Price range is very reasonable. --KC

depends what kind of modding you want to do

if for example you wish to add a tattoo to the actual skin (instead of clothes) then you would need the actual skin file

one option if you want unique is to try the face to your avatar available at avatar island (for about the same price as a skin you get a custom textures with your own pic on it (or a pic of your choice) therefor you can do with them as you please, in photoshop or whatever photoediting program you use

or you can get the cookie cutter skin texture files from eloh (which by the way are AWESOME files) then mod as you like
(or combine the 2 hehe)

I have some from avatar island and eloh's skins and been fiddling around with combining some from here, some of my own work and some from the custom one from avatar island

very fun to do and you end up with your own custom skin.

Those are great to start with to make one's own completely custom skin. It's a lot of time-consuming tweaking and texture uploads (thank you, Beta grid), but very, very valuable to have your own skin textures to work with--perhaps several versions from added image layers of original tattoos or effects that would otherwise take up precious clothing layers. Once you've done it, it's very hard to go back to the constraints of "off-the-shelf" skins.

But this may be a different kind of "moddable" than the OP intended. Instead, that may refer to "slider moddable" in the appearance editor, and as Dana points out, that's a function of both having mod perms on the skin asset and the skin texture itself being semi-transparent. In fact, at least the male skin texture from Eloh Eliot comes with an opaque background layer (the first thing I changed), and unless the texture has some transparency, mod perm won't let you make any visible changes in the appearance editor.

Naughty's skin is mod - meaning that you can affect the shading and makeup only to a degree. It is probably the highest quality mod skin out there.

I just discovered Stella di Roccia's skins - LOVE them and you can pick up a pack with all makeups for 500L, which is a bargain...and they are mod as well.

I second this recommendation - and the skins are tintable - not fully mod, but useful. You can find them at Pixel Dolls at Port Seraphine.

Midsummer Nights Creations also have some nice skins at a moderate price - not mod though.
