It sounds like ghost avs then, which will disappear after the next server update - unless you can get a Linden to restart the sim.

They are most likely bots. There's always been a bug in the mini-map that shows avatars as being at ground level if they are above a certain height (I forget what that height is.) So these dots that seem to be on the ground (or below it) are almost certainly bots in a skybox way up high.
That's true, except that high up avs (not just bots) show a down-pointing chevron and not a round dot. Also, isn't Blake Sea LL owned? If it is, there's no reason for anyone to have any bots there.

Kay. Do you have a radar? If so, does it show any names?

If I remember right, the one time that I had a round dot in my store, the radar showed nothing for it. I've had other ghost avs there but the green dot on the map one, with no visible av, only happened once that I know of.

I keep coming across that word. What is a bot?

Have you possibly zoomed your mini-map way out so that things that seem right near you are really farther away?

No, I don't think so. There is another blip here, which is someone who is away from the keyboard. I can find her precisely, using the mini-map. ie, she's exactly where the map leads me to expect her to be. So I think it must be set OK.

Good idea. I tried it and, guess what? It returns a name - someone with a private profile.

You could tell them about it and suggest that they might want to restart the sim in case it's left one or two people unable to log in.

I don't know if this applies to this particular situation or not, but...
I been through the desert on a horse with no name.

You were in a desert with a horse, and you couldn't even be bothered to name it? :)

I just TPd over there and I think it is the mini-map not updating problem.

Shame - no "real" ghosts.

I was hanging around the area; a very nice lady joined me, and she saw the same anomaly.
So it's not just me. Hurrah! No need to call the men in white coats.

You could call them anyway - they might be up for a good time ;)

My "hiding name tag"/invisible avatar information wasn't a joke or troll, but whatever.

Hmm, if I wanted to be locked up and drugged I think I would call the people in the black leather corsets rather than the men in white coats. But each to their own, I suppose. :)

A bit of a digression and a probably naive question: is the name tag something one wears? Or is it more like floating text generated by a script that could, in theory, be turned off?

Neither of those. It's something that the viewer puts there and we can't prevent it. I think what Lexxi was saying is that it can be covered by a worn prim.

You were pulling my tail here, weren't you? I did it, but nothing happened apart from an increase in my embarrassment levels. :)

Oh, I see. Not that I have any reason for wanting to hide my name, but hiding it with a prim does sound like a clever work around for someone who did.
