To say that there needs to be a massive change in the way SL fundamentally works (disabling premiums) just because there are problems with people in a few sims is beyond ridiculous.
The War on Grief is beginning to look much like the War on Terror, except in the former case, due to the lack of any possibility of physical harm, it is even more absurd. How often are you griefed? In a year of owning mainland I was griefed twice on my parcels. Incidents of "grief" elsewhere are also low. Talking to people, I've found similar results.
Sorry, but I really don't see a problem. I see much more of a problem from self-proclaimed "safety groups" like JLU and paranoid sim owners.

From: Kitty Barnett The primary concern seems to be that people would rather start clueless than have to "suffer" through any kind of orientation. They want SL *now*, not in 5 minutes.
That, coupled with the fact that some newbies never find their way off of OI (there's a big sign they click to get a landmark, but apparantly that's too complicated for a lot of people already) although I have to wonder whether you can ever retain someone who just can't figure out how to leave OI. you know what I'd like to see? Some way that people can start, essentially, at their own computer. Make it a matrix-y white openspace or something, low or no major graphics to speak of. Have them learn at least some basics there. *Then* consider sending them out in the wild. Teaching them nothing is not going not help retention; neither will too much. There has to be a middle ground.

Hmm I hardly see asking for some LL presence in welcome areas as a "massive change" Hmm missed the bit about disabling premium accounts, what would that acheive, most griefers are free , non verifieds in my experience. Incidents of grief happen dailiy, nearly hourly at infohubs hang around waterhead for an hour or so before saying everythings ok in SL land, yeah if you never leave your land you might never be griefed.......
