Animated without an animation?

I seem to be afflicted with a bad "slow sexy walk" animation, and nothing gets rid of it.

A while back I tested a bunch of animations to put into an AO. (Using a multi-pose stand.)
The last animation in the sequence was a slow sexy walk which had the avatar tilted off-vertical to the right. Nevertheless, it still got into one of the two AO's I was trying.

Subsequently, I stopped using either of the two AO's, and activated my usual one-off walk. It apparently was higher priority, because it worked - but occasionally, the bad walk showed through.

Then I deactivated the reliable walk - so I should be Ruth-waddling - but I'm not. I'm back to walking sexy-slow, in a drunken sideways lean.

Although it stops and starts at the appropriate times, I tried, unsuccessfully, using both Tools>"stop all animations" AND the third party STOP script (like the one at the Cartel Hangout), and made sure nothing showed any animation in inventory was being "WORN". Here's what I've also done:

Deleted all the walk animations from the multi-pose stand.
Deleted every instance of "sexy walk" in my inventory except my "old reliable".
Deleted every AO - populated or not.
Cleared cache (several times) and emptied trash
Changed clients - even changed computers.
Re-logged (several times), in several different sims, so it's not in my house.
Test-wore (and hence, removed) every scripted shoe I have - so it's not a shoe.
Tried on all my "outfits" - and walked around the room starkers - so it's not a garment.
My "outfits" include different iterations of my shape and skin and hair, so it's not one of those.

Nothing gets rid of the tilted walk.

My "old reliable" walk generally overrides the bad one -- but not reliably. And while some of the usual "special" walks - sneaky, tip-toe, etc - act normally, the bad one shows for a few steps when the walking starts and stops.

Crazy as it seems, for once, I'd really like to Ruth-waddle again (if only for old times sake?) Any ideas?

I know this seems obvious, but you didn't mention it. Did you do "remove all attachments", just in case there is an invisible one that you've missed?

ETA: I'm not sure there is something called that, but I think in the remove attachment menu any highlighted option still has an attachment on it, so you could check that.

I don't know what you mean by the "remove attachment "menu if it's not Detach All.
But I think I even went beyond that. I went to Test Female in the Client menu. That reduces the av to a Ruth. Nothing to detach. She (Ruth!!) still walks with the bad animation.

Holy Toledo. Sounds like you've done every possible thing! You've gone all the way back to Ruth? No hair, no nothing? Arks. I have NO idea, but I totally sympathize. :(

HUD item?

in the drop down menu it will list all your attachments - perhaps there is one not getting removed for some reason.

Off-beat question: do others see you walking the slanted slow sexy walk?

I've discovered sometimes the viewer itself is the culprit...I have an AO glitch that I see that does not register on other viewers...so, I just accept the hiccup.

Have someone watch you...clothing optional being your option of course...and find out if they see things normal or see it like you're seeing it.

Hmmm, that sounds bad. I think it's time for a support ticket.

BTW, the test female is not Ruth, but is instead the "default avatar". Believe it or not, Ruth looks way worse than that. Every time I've been ruthed, I kept my skin and most of my clothes, but got the Ruth shape and hair (which is short, unlike the default av). I swear sometime I'll get a pic of me as Ruth!

The only onther thing I can think of...bit of a long shot, but you seem to have checked everything else.

Did you ever give your permission to animate to any object or person? The permission is persistent as long as the object is rez'd and you are in the same sim.

A couple of important questions were asked in the posts: do others see the bad animation, and does it happen in different, distant sims? (My bet is that Deira is right: permissions were granted to an object, but that object was an attached AO, so it got that permission just by virtue of being attached. And then it somehow got dropped instead of being detached back to inventory, and is still merrily AOing-away.)

Omg I have had this same problem, when there should be no walk anims applied an instead of noob-waddling you get another previously used walk anim. Normally I keep my walk anims in one of those cut-down Franimations AO attachments you get from Enkythings. The rest of my poses/anims go in my ZhaoII so they can be disabled. Problems started when I went from Zhao to ZhaoII, and I decided to try putting the walk anims in the ZhaoII HUD instead of using the other little attachment just for walks. It seems the standard sexy walk anim is now my default, no matter how many things I take off. When Im in the default over-the-shoulder camera view with sexy walk enabled(using either ao), if I hit the down key and try to walk backwards, normally my AV walks backwards using that animation. Now since going to ZhaoII, instead of walking backwards, my AV tries to turn around and walk FACING the camera, but the animation stutters/freezes and she ends up stuck mid-anim floating in that direction. Moving the walks in and out of either AO doesn't fix the backwards stutter thing. Putting a different walk as the current active one still gets me the sexy walk anim about 35-45% of the time. Removing ALL AO's and everything else I still have the sexy walk anim.
I DO remember crashing while standing on an anim vendor at Anim Warehouse, though it wasn't the vendor for any of the anims I have probs with.

EDIT: this happens in any sims.

Take off your shoes and see if that helps. Sometimes sexywalks are embedded in shoes (edit: and won't show as "Worn";).

THAT is a good idea!

Would it be possible to search your inventory for "worn" objects?

i didn't see a "detach all" advice so i'm tossing that out there. and you'll just have to reapply your wig and jewelry, and AO.....

also, within your AO did you pull the slow sexy walk back out of the contents list? is it withdrawn from the written list inside the script? you can detach your AO and drag it to the ground and edit it....

First of all, I'll say I realize I've mis-used the term "Ruth". (The anal-retentive may relax.) I know Ruth is the thing (yes, "thing" is the right word, isn't it?) you see when you log in and your clothes (etc.) don't download right away.

I meant the "newbie-walk" when I said Ruth-waddle. And the "test female" isn't a Ruth, either, but a generic female avatar equipped and dressed like a new-born. Whatever, she is as "clean" of things you've done to your avatar as she can be -- supposedly, completely clean.

Now, on to your helpful replies:

@#7 - Joseph. Yes others see the same walk.
@#9 - Deira. I think you're on the right track. I'll cover developments in a separate message
@#10 - Qie. See note to Deira.
@#11 - Dana. Exactly the same effect, and probably the same cause. - Crashed on the multi-pose animation stand - full answer in a moment.
@#12 - Honeybear. Shoes were removed as per Msg #1
@#13 - George. No cigar for you, either -- Nothing "worn" as per Msg #1
@#14 - 3Ring. All AO's deleted, and nothing TO detach (it's even absent from menu for test female) - see #1 and #3

Now on to where it stands, (or walks and wobbles, as the case may was).

The cause of the thing may well have been a crash while testing this specific animation on the multi-pose stand - in my own home.

Obviously, I had given that object permission to animate me. It apparently persists.

My trials for persistence in several sims were apparently not far enough afield. I moved to a very distant (mainland) sim with the test female, and her walk reverts to the newbie-waddle as it should. We are half-way there!

The persistent bad anim, however, still persists in my home (estate) sim and the adjacent sim, and the one beyond that, possibly elsewhere.

I have "returned" the multi-pose stand to its original owner. It is no longer rezzed in my home sim. (Not rezzed at all, in fact) - I have not yet cleared cache and re-logged after getting rid of the pose stand, however. Will do so and see if that helps.

Any further steps to take?

Re-logging (cleared cache) helped only to eliminate the problem in adjacent sims. It still persists in the home sim. But nowhere else. I could move "home" to our mainland parcel and never visit our island parcels, of course. I'm half serious. This is an annoying problem -- but the solving experience is at least educational.

Thanx Ava, didn't know the difference myself and learned something. I guess I'm anal-retentive :D

AW, Qie had it right. This exact same thing happened to me, and Qie showed up to help and found it. It was a an attachment that animated me, then I dropped it, instead of detaching it. It was in the same sim as me, whenever I left, all was OK, returned and the anim returned. It was found eventually on the beach.

I don't think I dropped an AO, but anything's possible. Qie, if you're willing to do a search, please IM me and I will come in-world and show you the area most likely involved.

Hmm, then after relogging there should be no script animating you anymore (you are right about the perms persisting, debit, animation, there is no way to revoke them), but it sounds like that sim is still running the script.

It's still odd though that it behaves like an AO, that really sounds like another script is still animating you (if it's detecting when you are walking)... Any chance you dropped an AO in world instead of detaching it?

From my own experience with a multipose item and testing with something similar, "standing up" from it frees you from it's desire to animate you when you aren't sitting on it (without someone else having used it). :)

The script isn't active but persists in inventory... So maybe get the exact same one rezzed again, use it and stand up properly instead of crashing/logging off? (It probably won't ask for permission to animate again if it already has it, depending on how it is scripted, otherwise it might be a different copy.)

Or, reset it's scripts (again, it would have to be the exact same copy).

Lastly, simply having someone else use the stand will cause it's script to forget about you too! ;)

(Although the more I wonder about it, the more it seems there's something else left in world there still animating you too...)

And I was too slow, LOL, add my vote to the dropped AO!

Returning the pose stand should have suspended it's script AND it would not just be animating you when walking but all the time. ;)

Crystal, I think now that Qie (and your secondary thoughts) are right. I feel sure I used the stand several times after the crash, "standing" to quit. Since I deleted ALL similar animations from inventory and the populations of the AO's I was testing, I'd be hard pressed to find the bad one again (and certainly would never be able to activate the same copy again). A dropped AO seems more likely now.

Of course - you're right. It is acting like a proper AO, and not a continuously running script.

But, just in case, I can have the owner rez and use the stand outside the sim to see if that has any effect.

Afterthought -- but if it's an AO I dropped, wouldn't it have been listed in the inventory? "Worn", I suppose. Well, there are NO AO's in my inventory any more. I deleted them all.

Recently lost more than half of my inventory, not the point but important to my response. I was wearing a neko skin, neko ears, neko whiskers and neko tail at the time. I looked at "Worn" in inventory - result - I was apparently naked and didn't have those attachments, skin, etc. in my inventory. They never came back, they never disappeared from my body on their own. They only "left" when I removed the neko stuff and changed skins. Where-upon, I looked, and yes, those items were still missing from my inventory. So - it is possible that you have some "Sexy walk" animation attached to you that you just can't see in your inventory when you look at "worn". Or for that matter, can't see at all in inventory.

Note: If similar situation, you will not see that animation in inventory, and will not be able to delete it.

{for those that wish to know - I made sure I knew where to buy the neko stuff, and bought the neko stuff after removing it and finding that it wasn't in inventory}
