I was looking around and found this site that is new from the looks of it and has the same look as 2nd life. Is it associated with 2nd life? Did they sell off there engine that they use? [It even has the same viewer and log in screens] Well take a look for yourself here is the link its called Dreamworld 3d http://www.virtualworld.sl/index.php?page=home&btn=1

Is pretty. It would not allow me to read the 'Investors', assume I'd have to join first.

I created an account and logged in for a few but I'm at work so could not look around to much. It just seams exactly like 2nd life the viewer the avatar everything. I just wanted to know if this was like a pirate server like some other games has or if 2nd life has sold them the rights to use there source or what?

Hardly any links on the home page are functioning, Treasure. It has no real contact info - an email address and an alleged real address, but no phone number so it looks like a couple of people's hobby but not a day job for anyone Those people can be seen in the forum there.

The OpenSim people have created the means to make things like that. Anyone can produce a grid like SL these days (an SL clone), quite legitimately. The SL viewer is open source and a number of 3rd party viewers are in use in SL, so even that isn't anything that people can't legitimately do. What those people can't do is develope it. They rely on LL to develope SL, and OpenSim to catch up with developments and, only then can grids like that one keep up.

I believe that is Count Burks' Opensim development. He is a frequent advertiser here in the forums, and his holdings in both SL and Opensim are called Dreamworld, I think. See previous thread about this: /327/c2/331782/1.html.

I can't see any way to get into it. It says it's in alpha at the moment, so probably it isn't yet open to the public, although Levi said it has the same login screens. But I couldn't find a way in from the site.

From: Alexander9 Carver How do i register for it? i like open sims The only way I found is on the home page, near the bottom, there's the phrase "welcome you to participate" in red. Click that for the registration form. After registering, it says you have to download the viewer, but it's the SL viewer although the filesize is a *lot* bigger. ETA: Having said that, the login screen says that there are3 people online but I can't get in - "despite our best efforts ..." Also, the forum there talks about problems with crossing sim boundaries, and it doesn't have many sims (judging by the list on the login screen). Oh well.
