Okay, I'm too lazy but some of you musta done it.
How high have you flown? Be HONEST.
And what is it like up there?
I always imagine you fly so high you break outta SL and come plonking into a BBC newsroom stumbling on to a floor or a website for Ikea and going "wha? wha??" :)

it's the same at 15,000m as it is at 5,000m.

I haven't been much above 4096 as that's the build limit. I might have been higher after being orbitted or from some variant of crashing. But I did read, on these forums I think, that someone had been up a million metres or more and kept going. They said that eventually their avatar began to deform and come apart and that the sky gradually turned black. I have no idea whether this was true or not, but that's what they said.

would that be "predictable" like, say, a Flintstones cartoon where the same tree and rock pass by over and over?

Back when people could orbit each other I went to more digits that I have fingers. It was dark and I was distorted.

mm..it's no fun up there..
I remember an interactive exhibition ages ago (can't recall the name but it had some Warholesque soup cans, and paintings that you jumped into that distorted your avvy grotesquely)..... well, there was a button called "go to heaven" and being the compulsive presser and clicker of everything that I am, I soon regretted that decision.

This reminds me thst I once changed a setting, and the result was that if I began an ascent by pressing Page Up, I would continue to ascend forever, even though I released the key. so I did get really high. Since I undid the change, I haven't found it again. Anyone know what setting it would have been?

Only about 6000 or so. When I didn't know there was a build limit, I assumed it was at the point I'd stop going up, so I went all the way up there, got bored and stopped, and rezzed a platform. Then wondered where it was... :p

I actually haven't counted. I don't know how to "fly high".

one day whilst bored I put on my Mystitool, set it to plaid, taped down the page up key and went for a cuppa.

I hit 100k. No avatar deforming, nothing but sky. So I hit "stop flying".
Nothing makes one giggle so much as a 5 minute plummet.

I tried flying up as high as I could go once - it got very boring. I kept expecting that I would hit a limit, but I never did. I gave up when I went past 99999 m. The limit is probably about 30 digits, or something huge.

Falling down at several hundreds of metres per second, my shoes came off, my hair came off - I TPd home quick before it got any worse!

If you go 15000 m up and stop and look around you'll see Philip Lindens skybox.

The highest I ever went after being orbited was about 4 miljoen meter, flying was about 10k, after the flying nothing happened to my avatar but after the orbit my avatar become unvisable just my tag and shadow could be seen but no attachments or avatar mesh, offcourse this was over a year and half ago so that might not happen anymore.

Both works by artist Gazira Babeli. The paintings recently got in the top 30 best artworks shown at Brooklyn is Watching in the past year.

Over two billion meters. I'm the first avatar to break the MAXINT barrier that I know of.

I don't know how much higher than that I got, because they didn't have the altitude at the top of the screen back then, but shortly after I announced it Beatfox Xevious, using an improved altimeter, got over a TRILLION meters. So it's possible my altitude estimate is off by a factor of a thousand. :D

They have since nerfed llPushObject() so I don't know if this kind of thing is still possible. My own launcher rarely breaks a million meters any more.

Weird. Send me an IM and I'll drop some snaps on you next time I'm in-world.

Lifted, shifted higher than a ceiling

And ooo wee the ultimate feeling!

* * * * *

I've never flown too high. But the thread title sorta reminds me of that song! I can hear the singer guy singing it as a chorus in my head...

I've been to at least more than 700k, it was some time ago, the avatar was flattened like a jiggly stair, attachments lagged behind the movement (though perhaps that could have been due tot he speed and not the height), the sky was different (black I think, not sure)
