I've been SL a year now and am still finding amazing looking sims. I'd like to see more so i'm wondering what your fav is?

I dont mean a cool place to hang out with great people, I'm talking about visually stunning places, something completly different or a sim thats simply got that 'wow' factor.

I'll start off, here's one of my fav's.

Thunder, look up my profile in-world and look in picks. I have a link to a parks and recreation guide website but in the meantime, there's Secret Reflections, Svarga, Gardens of Bliss and Mystery to be getting on with :)

It's got a lot in them :)

ETA: for wintery scenes: Misty Acres (also for the rides), Musical Ice Caves, and Sterling something or other, which is also a great live music venue, currently a Winterwonderland.

/me mumbles something about checking out Mystery

Svarga Svarga Svarga. Buy stuff there, support the place and have a few cool things for your home.

Nothing like being attacked by lurid birds and bees on your own patch!

Recently found: Saint Francesco d'Assisi. Haven't got the slurl to hand, but a search should turn it up. Absolutely stunning.

And... word has it... "Winterland" will be coming back for this December. It's a must-visit!

I'll suggest the four sims that make up the Avaria continent (Avaria, Avaria Sav, Avaria Tor, Avaria Kro)

You'll probably teleport in in the sky-city, but for the REAL magic, jump off and fly down to the land below. :)

Exploring the tunnels in Avaria Kro and the Valley in Avaria itself = fun. :)

Is Greenies still around? One of the most amazing things I've seen in SL in 2 1/2 yrs.

I agree. Greenies still gets my vote as the most unexpected and pleasant surprise I've found in SL.

Secret/Midnight Reflections are also well worth a visit.

My store has a free box of landmarks to the most interesting builds I have seen in the 33 months I have been in SL. It is on the East vendor wall.

Is it just me? When I first arrived I was flying around going Wow!! a lot but in spite of fiddling with settings to get the highest practical display options, the platform & engine soon seem to reduce everything to looking, similarly, well. Second Life-ish. My biggest complaints in this respect are;

1) Standing next to a brilliant and proportionate castle wall texture only to watch it tile into insignificance from a few metres away.

2) The narrow field of view combined with the practical limits on draw distance (and unless someone out there with a v. big PC tells me otherwise, I'm sure the latter is at least partly a server side issue).

3) The limits of lighting options - the way that ambient day/night lighting determines everything indoors. I know that there are ways around this but most builders don't bother and where they do it tends to lead to retina-burning full bright(ness).

I understand that SL (as are any/all online environments) is a work in progress and that these are almost certainly not fixable within the current platform. It's just that my appreciation of the work of the most creative builders is often "nice build" rather than Wow! which seems like poor reward for the effort that's gone into it.

My suggestion is Damania and it's neighboring sims, called Utopia and (I think) Eltonia.

Also try Apollo, Dresden Gallery, Dublin, Felonhall and (if it's still there), Amsterdam.
