Hello. Yeah, I am a newby, and no, i don't know much yet.

I met a special friend in world, and want to give him a hug and a kiss. But i cannot seem to interact with him?

How do I do this?

Do you have a hug/kiss attachment? You can get them free all over the place. Don't pay for it!
If you can't find one, IM me and I'll send you one

Either
1. buy (or pick up a freebie) hug and kiss attatchment
Or
2. both of you sit on set of poseballs with this animation.
Poseballs like this range from simple freebies with static poses to minutes long very beautifull animation sequences (the best Ive seen are from "Bits and Bobs";)

The hug and kiss attatchment is the most convenient way, as it allows you to hug him wherever you are in the world .

Thank you so much! I will look for this attachment.

I don't care too much for the pose balls... to me it seems unnatural, and more work than what it should be. I'm thinking there should be a simple action in your gestures list.. you just click on it and it happens, then again, what do i know?

Thanks again!

Don't give pose balls the kiss off just yet. The attachment hug and kiss are OK if static, but the animated hugs and kisses really are sweet. besides Bits and Bobs, try Naura and Phil's as well. The advantage with the balls is you can stay in the embeace for as long as you want. Makes those moments extra nice.

I agree with Misti that poseballs seem sort of unnatural. I'd rather have something that's a part of my avatar and can be used anywhere.

But, Misti, the more I play around with the various forms of animation in SL, the better poseballs are starting to look. They're generally the best way to get a really high quality animation, and you can reposition them so your avatars appear to be interacting correctly.

The hug and kiss attachments are part of all my standard avatar setups. I find them to be the easiest way to spontaneously offer a hug or a kiss. Free ones are usually either a single action per attachment, or a simple multi-pose set. Paid for ones might be part of a slave collar or "multi-tool", or part of a complex "affection pack" HUD.

The pose balls are more for roleplay or for setting up a fixed location for affectionate encounters. They usually require a certain amount of adjusting and positioning to make them work well. For example, I once set up some caves with hidden nooks and passageways where lovers could meet, and visitors could stop at various places and hop on a set of pose balls to exchange a passionate kiss, a hug, or to sit and cuddle, (or more intimate actions, as they went deeper into the caves). Pose sets are also handy in one's home, such as setting up a kiss or cuddle pose ball set on a bench in your garden, etc... For roleplay, you can pre-position pose balls to set up a 'scene', such as having a set placed at the door to greet your speciel someone with a nice kiss, and then a second kiss, more passionate, in the hallway, etc...

Hug and kiss attachments generally work well, but sometimes the alignment is off, especially if the characters were not exactly facing one another when the offer is accepted.

Pose ball sets, on the other hand, usually have nearly perfect alignment unless the characters differ greatly in height from the norm. They are also often far more detailed and varied. I have one "passionate kiss" pose set that takes a couple minutes to play through, and leaves one thinking the couple should gasp for air when it ends! *grins*

An HUD that offers many options is the most versitile solution, and doesn't waste attachment points on the avatar.

I've found that you can just take those hug and kiss attachments and stick em to your hud. Just make them really tiny and invisible so you don't accidentally click on them.

I use the Abranimations hud for all my kissing and hugging needs.

well, until I get back to my house...then I use the Bits and Bobs hugs and kisses poseballs...they are amazing.

....and pay no attention to those other pose balls over there (/1 hide, /9 hide)

this brings up a problem i have ...

i have mr p's duo power animation HUD as well as a kiss attachment. both have worked fine for quite a long time. for the last few months however, whenever i use either one, there is a 50/50 chance that it might work normally. half the time i jump, bounce back and forth, flail my arms around, etc while in the kiss pose either in the embrace of the other avi or a few feet away.

has this been happening to anyone out there?

i've cleared cache. uninstalled and re-installed sl on a number of occassions. no difference.

Speaking of animations - when I walk around, I look like a little kid boppin along in a candy store. I have a walking animation that actually looks pretty true to real walking - but - I have to click on my inventory - then select the animation - then tell it to play in the world - then close the inventory box - then push foward to walk while the animation is playing - then if i want to stop, i have to really quickly click on stop and be ready for the stop - shwew! what a lot of work!

Is there a way to get that custom animated walk as a default? And, while I am asking, why isn't a more natural walk the default to begin with?

To last question: yes, you could get yourself an AO (animation overrider). It's basically a gadget that overrides your default animations. You stick your favorite walk animation in there and voila.

Ok, great... now that sounds like it may be worth trying. I did get this animation overrider thinggy.. just today. It has a hud display and some buttons to make it play or stop and whatever, but i have to play around with it and see if i can figure it out. I will certainly try putting that animated walk into it. I assume you just drag the animation over to the hud display? I guess?

Ok, thanks for all these great tips!

misti, you need to rezz the AO in world. you might have to move around to see it because some of them are invisible on one side. EDIT it open by right clicking on it and selecting EDIT. then open the CONTENTS tab of the EDIT window.

drag and drop your animation from your inventory to the CONTENTS.

there will also be a notecard there in the CONTENTS tab called "set" or something similar. open it.

the first 2 lines of the the notecard describe your walking animation. the first line itself should say something like "[walking animation]" or some such thing. the second line ... change it to the EXACT name of the animation you just added. save and close the notecard.

you'll then see the script re-compile (not sure if this happens before or after the EDIT window is closed). then just close the EDIT window.

take the AO back into inventory. WEAR it. voila. new walking animation.

further lines in the "set" notecard are descriptions of animation (stand, sit, fly, etc) and the exact name of the corresponding animation in the CONTENTS.

once you get the hang of it, you can easily change your standing animations too.

edit>> i was told that MY problem with kissing/hugging animations might stem from the fact that i have "movelock" on in my mystitool.

Now this is a cool thread. I've met one or two people I talk to often and would love to hug them goodbye instead of typing *HUGS* all the time!

It sounds kind of complicated, but it's really not. I had a stand I really disliked in the first preassembled AO I purchased and I put off trying to change it for months but, once I had, I had to wonder why I'd waited so long. ;)

I have three hugger attachments.

One is a short 30 sec hug, its sweet. I just type /hug Brenda and we hug

One is a 90 second hug, same Idea but lasts a lot longer, its great unless you "MISS" then you end up missing for a minute and a half.

One is the Ostritch Hugger its for giving hugs to people who offered you hugs but shouldnt have. It spins them in the air then dumps their head into the ground for about a minute, buried.

Luckily I haven't seen that last one. I have a hugger that has a Bitch Slap option. I'm saving that one if I ever meet Danny Boy inworld.

After hugging and kissing with the attachment you'll be "progressing" to poseballs in no time.. heh

Thanks for telling me how to do that. And I also downloaded a instruction thinggy on how to use that script.

BUT... I did everything just as described, and I put the name of the walk I want to use on the note card in the hud, and typed it in exactly. Everything shows up as it should. I press "Load" and then click "walk" and nothing happens. The custom walk does not happen at all. There are 1-5 I can select when I press "walk", and none of them work.

I know I followed the proceedure, so barring a mistake on my part, what could be going wrong?

Oh there are some very good made and natural pose-balls around. Some people placed a lot of effort in it to make them.
