AMC's 3-part remake/homage of The Prisoner, iconic spy mystery starring Patrick McGoohan, starts tonight. My question: has someone built The Village in SL? If not, WHY NOT? What fun to script! Des, I need a sim! *grins* Hey, I notice that AMC has a graphic novel on the series' website, as well as all the original Prisoner episodes for free viewing. Why isn't that graphic novel an SL sim? Hey, you there, M! Shake up that whiz-bang marketing team you insisted on bringing with you, boychik! Between Twilight and Prisoner, you're leaving serious Hollybucks on the table!

What fun to script! Yes, someone has . . . or did. I ran across it once by accident in a search . . . but never did check it out. When I get in-world next, I'll look again. My feelings about the remake are mixed. The Prisoner used to be shown on one of our public broadcasters here in Canada when I was young, complete with a deeply serious introduction with learned guests who offered commentary on the political and philosophical significance of the episodes . . . The original series seems BADLY dated to me . . . but maybe I'm just from the wrong generation? On the other hand, I can't remember the last time I saw a remake that didn't botch the job completely.

Frankly. . .I'm worried about this. Back then the concepts behind the prisoner were relatively fresh and interesting. Now they're cliched. I can't help but wonder how it will age.
But I'll be there.

If it's going to be good, they have to change the scenario ... without the Cold War actually going on, I think it would lose much of its punch. But we now have things at least as scary, and that's all The Prisoner's psychodrama needs ... a cloaked threat.
I'd be interested to see a Village, Scylla, if you think of it drop me a LM. But The Village sim I'm thinking of would not just be a place to look at.

"The Prisoner" would of course be copyrighted and, possibly, trademarked so it would be illegal to use in SL. "Port Meirion" is a town but that too is possibly privately owned and trademarked, I'm not quite sure. You may like to look at http://www.portmeiriononline.co.uk/department/company-information/ as they may well give permission for an SL build for the publicity PS - Who are AMC?

I missed The Prisoner when it first made its brief run. I doubt I was old enough to understand it really. I remember something about a large bubble thing as a security system and a lot of paranoia, but that's about it. I'm still rather counter culture and anti-authority deep inside. Should I catch it on Netflix? Then wait for the AMC version in a year or so? A year is an increasingly shorter amount of time these days.

I want to know if Pep is from Penrhyndeudraeth.
There's something about that place and the fact that he's Welsh.

Why, you could do such better justice to it with twenty... Of course. One for the prototype. The Prisoner is essentially Kafka with style. If you crafted the sims with that in mind, and made them an ever-branching game which you entered by choosing a role that came with a HUD that interacts with other character's HUDs as well as the physical surroundings ... well ... you could provide players with a canvas for very interesting interactions indeed. Since the players would be able to choose actions to perform on both the surroundings and each other, THEY would create the plot. They also, of course, would have the option to collude ... or appear to. I suppose this thinking is old hat for all you true gamers out there, oh well. It would be fun to create, though. It would be nice to be able to use tag lines and styles from The Prisoner series. But, indeed, copyright is such an issue ... one can be "inspired by", and purchase the right to display logoware in a very few locations. Or not, if the current holders were unwilling. *shrugs* Well, one can dream. LL really missed an opportunity here, though. Both this and Twilight are ideal for SL.

I'm horrified that they're not going to wear the cute little outfits.
Also: I hear they're going to try to use 'terrorism' as a substitue for the Cold War, as backdrop and source of dread.
Also also: I hear it's pretty bad.

From: Dakota Tebaldi By hook or by crook, we will. (I wonder if the writers of the new version will include any of these classic exchanges? Or will they change it to "By waterboard or by electrodes-to-the-genitals, we will", in tribute to the 'terrorism' theme?)
