My SL continues to evolve. I am looking for something new - tell me some of the cool communities that y'all belong to. I like checking out places with a regular crowd that has some kind of non-sexual roleplay involved where I can hang out and get to know people. I like Steampunk but it does not seem like there are any active communities unless you live on a themed sim. Let's hear your community ideas! BTW, you can skip the forum hangout, Tombstone, pregnancy, children, Gor, furry...I think that is it. I just realized that I am not into combat RP. BDSM is fine. I am comfortable with that. So I am exploring your suggestions and really enjoying it. Keep the suggestions coming! edited to add more some extra no-nos

Isle of Wryms has a very active community. They are holding (or held...not sure how long it went on) their Winter Festival now. There are so many sub-groups within the IoW that one could spend their entire SL there.
The Elven communities also appear to be quite active. I have seen a lot of elves in classes lately and checked their profiles and I "think" there is a group called Elven Circle.
Another fantasy sim is Everwind. It reminds me a bit of Everquest. Interesting sim that also looks like one could spend lots of time there.
The Caledon sims are always fascinating if you enjoy the Victorian era.
There is apparently a very active Star Wars rp as well.
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

If you are into sci fi I suggest Babylon 5. Even if you aren't into RP, the nature of the Station is well suited for those "just passing through". If the Irish Pub thing interests you, I suggest the Dublin Sims. Otherwise, I tend to stick to solitary wandering when in SL.

From: Katelicious Xue ... it does not seem like there are any active communities unless you live on a themed sim... That's pretty much true for any kind of RP. Once something takes RP outside the boundaries of the themed community (sim) it pretty much just spams and annoys people. (^_^) I wonder of those samurai RP sims are still going... (O.o) And... CoLA... Sure, there is a BDSM & sexual element to parts of the RP... But it's avoidable. I've spent hours there as an abandoned neko and haven't gotten directly involved in a single sexual situation. (^_^) Toxian too. (^_^) Hmmm.. Clockwork Dolls? EGL? (^_^)y

A serious post on the topic - no real clue how popular it is or if it is just something folks explore, but I found this place on a hunt and noted it to go back and explore: Called Star Journey and looks really cool and has a HUD to go with it. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Star%20Journey/131/123/440

We run a series of sims that are themed traditional asian - mostly japanese and chinese. We don't do any fancy role-play but we do like people to be prepared to dress appropriately and learn a little about the culture. We have one of our residents who offers beginner japanese lessons to some.
We don't do the combat side of the samurai culture, because we feel that it is more than adequately dealt with in other sims. Weapons are only welcome to be worn, not wielded. We try to focus on the more peaceful, meditative side of the lifestyle.
It's something we are working to establish more and more - we even have geisha shows for entertainment and educational purposes, and are trying to start up our own geisha school.
So there's another option. A link to our blog is in my sig and there are SLUrls there to find us in-world.
Good luck on your hunt! SL has such a wide variety of treasure to explore.

From: Katelicious Xue What is CoLA and EGL? CoLA is City of Lost Angels; dark urban role play. It's got quite a few sims and one of the best combat HUDs on the grid. (^_^) EGL is Elegant Gothic Lolita. It's a fashion trend that's greatly adopted with doll role play. Sadly, many people treat like a kink, but at it's core; it's a community of caring friends with an epic taste for victorian and gothic fashion. (^_^)y

Seriously, when I see all the fabulous places that people have built- and that post further down about the Japanese classes! Wow! I need to start keeping a list of what I want to do.

My friend got a message after having sex with someone that she had been impregnated and if she didn't find a pill she would have a baby in 9 days. Now I haven't seen any babies running around in SL so what's the deal with this and how do you find that pill?
