Hi everybody

I joined second life only a few months ago , and i became a Dancer . Well yesterday my luck was in as i was tipped 45000 !! I cant believe it. Whats even better is i dont have a credit card so he helped me out alot .

So with all this money i am unsure what to do .Is it possible for me to buy a house with this ?
Is there any way i can invest it to have a steady income ?

Any advice would be great .

I'd say keep dancing at wherever you are. And, are they hiring?

The club or the guy doing the tipping?

Well, I would say you impressed or pleased someone very much. Well done, and lucky you! Such tips are rare among dancers and escorts, so I would treat it like winning a small lottery prize. Enjoy the profit, but don't expect it to repeat, or at least not very often.

That was about $170 USD worth of game money you got. Which is so far above normal tipping ranges that I'd be somewhat concerned that it was a big mistake on the part of the tipper, who may have only intended to give you L$ 450. So the first thing I would do is just hold it a while, to make sure they don't come back pleading that it was in error.

That would be enough money to purchase a small but comfy SL home, and to rent land to keep it on for perhaps a year, if you didn't go for a very large parcel.

Personally though, you're so new that I would wait a bit, and take your time deciding what to do with the windfall. If you plan to continue working as a dancer and/or escort, it may be worthwhile to invest a portion of that money in a high-quality skin, nicer hair, and some fancy outfits and dance animations for your work. Those would all help you to get better tips in your current line of work.

There is NO way to invest that money in-world to "provide a steady income". Without a valid credit card or PayPal account, I don't think you could even cash it out and use it to pay for a Premium account subscription. And since you already HAVE the L$, using the money to buy a Premium account would result in less income over the year as stipend payments than you would have to cash out and spend to get the membership.

So just hold the money in your account, and dole it out to yourself as you need funds. It's enough money that you could Play in SL for a year or two and not need to pend any more real money to provide for your purchasing needs in-world.

Well this is how it happened. I wasnt even dancing I was waiting to dance as there was no pole free. He said somthing and i replied but i was very short. He then tipped me 5000. I asked him why and i was basically told why not.
Then he looked at my profile and said , i see you are a dancer and then tipped me abother 5000. Then he asked me how i was and i was still baffeled by the tips .
i told him do you know that is a months worth of tips you have given me.

He then gave me 10000 and said how do you like that, it went on and on and he said he has enough and that i am to enjoy this as its not every day it happens . He was glad that it made me happy.

So yeah it was strange .

rental of land far exceeds the cost of ongoing land rental but you could try.all you have to do is ensure you have a constant supply of renters!

If it were me...

I could invest that in hair and shoes in less than 15 minutes

SHOPPING YEAH!! :-)

K first trust no one, avoid inworld banks, and stock markets. The thing of it is there is absolutely no legal recourse to ever get your cash back if it gets stolen.

But sure you can find a house for that amount I imagine. You can probably even buy a small mainland plot for that much as of late. Which comes back to the land prices, they are so low right now. Rental homes are slowly falling in to the black hole. There is really no value left in them.

You could rent a basic apartment for, oh, somewhere on the order of 200-250 weeks.

I've seen this sort of behaviour in 'real life' when out with the guys, all those years ago - occasionally a friend would try to flaunt his exec salary or something.

It's not a good thing. When a guy dazzles someone with dollars, he's likely more doing it for himself than for you: "hey, I can do this, I can feel special about myself" and it *instantly* puts you and he on an unequal footing.

It may be never stated, but those $L have little strings attached. Would you feel comfortable showing interest in someone else in his presence, or did he put obligations upon your attention?

Strong recommendation: return all of it.

Invest in yourself, and you'll be the person able to tip him $L 45k.

Very true. Still, it would be nice to be dazzled like that, even if it were for his benefit. :p

It's a nice little windfall .... Sometimes good things do happen in SL and RL ... im a little concerned though .

You have all herd the saying " If it sounds to good to be true " ?

I don't for one second doubt that this has happened ... i have herd of this type of thing before in SL with far more money involved too .... But ...

I would be aware that it might also be some kind of attempt at involvolving me in some kind of money laundering type thing

If the guy was to contact you again saying it was a mistake ... and can you send the money to an alt of his .... lol contact LL right away or you might find yourself involved in someone elses scam :)

I also agree with Des on the self gratification thing ...seen it many times myself .

Side note : Worth pointing out that the females replying to this post all see it as a positive thing ...and the guys inject a little bit of a negative ..... wonder why that is ?

AFAIC, if he doesn't ask for anything quid pro quo, it's hers without strings. There are some generous people and some people dying to throw away their cash on expensive stuff. If he friended her for later on, I would definitely be wary, but if not... just enjoy, don't blow it all in one place.

Were I the OP, I would be worried the tipper was spending someone else's money, i.e., Lindens purchased with stolen credit info, etc...

I'm sorry to say this, but I think you should give it back - or at least most of it and just keep what would be a more usual tip for a dancer. It sounds like that guy was not quite normal and I would feel a bit worried about him.
