I just got booted from a concert for dancing in one of the cages.
Now, I spend a lot of my SL time dancing and so far, if I click on something I'm not supposed to dance on, 90% of the time I get a 'this object is group only' type of message.

I've also been asked to either change my look or remove prims, etc in certain places and I either do what they ask if I want to stay, or politely excuse myself and TP out.

This time, I had just landed and while most of the place was still rezzing, I saw a cage
to the left of the stage and clicked it. I got the animate permission box and about the same moment I OK'd it, I got an angry IM that said bluntly, "GET OUT NOW".

I said, 'pardon?' and was immediately booted. I then had a short conversation that basically went:

"Why did you boot me?"
"MY STAGE! YOU ARE NOT IN THE BAND"
"Wow. Sorry, but I didn't realize I couldn't dance there"
"MY STAGE!"

I dropped it before he said, "FIRE BAD".
I know there are tons of these types with an itchy eject finger, but seriously, did I deserve that?

Without having been there, it sounds a bit harshly-delivered. Nothing wrong with a bit of polite humour if someone has made an oops.

I get what you mean about the permissions...if something is public, it is, and if it isn't, it's usually allocated to a staff/band group. The band could perhaps arrange things a bit more conveniently for themselves to stop any more misunderstanding.

Perhaps in future, just wait a moment or two while you rezz, so you can scope things out a bit more, especially in a crowded space with people standing about.

I would have felt mortified at the guys response, though.

Moron powertripping.
Shrug it off and move on. If he hasn't figured out by now that it takes time for things to rez he's got bigger problems than an itchy ban-finger.

If he wants to keep people off his stage - and he may well have reasons for that - he needs to make sure it's inaccessible. People like to click on and explore stuff - he's in the wrong place if he doesn't get that.

I know there are tons of these types with an itchy eject finger, but seriously, did I deserve that?

While it is generally frowned upon to go to a club or similar venue and use the dance poles/cages/what-have-you as they are usually reserved for staff only, this guy you encountered was pretty much the equivalent of one of those security orbs set with no delay - absolutely horrible!

I would just dust myself off and mark that place off my list of places to ever visit again. Nothing is worth that kind of aggravation any more than an innocent romp in a dance cage warranted such an aggressive reaction.

ETA: "FIRE BAD".... That made me chuckle :)

If I forget to set my dance poles to group-only, which I just do to keep the new ruths from camping on them, you're welcome to dance on them.

In fact most builds actually CONDITION us to click on and say 'yes' to animations--that's what the builders intend and hope for.

So, yeah: what others have said: the guy needs to set permissions to prevent that if he wants to prevent it.

After he figures out how to configure his stage, he should consider tracking down some valium.

I think it's usually taken as read that if you visit a club then poles, cages, stage etc. were out of bounds for patrons and for the hired staff dancers only. I usually go to clubs in SL to be entertained not entertaining.

Manners really don't cost a lot, if they can't be bothered to politely explain to you that the cage isn't the place to dance then they don't sound like the sort of establishment who are worthy of your time.

was it the owner? if not i would let the owner know whats up..maybe the owner doesn't want some ass hat treating their customers like that..
As rare as customers are in clubs these days i would hope they wouldn't..

Unless there was a rule card that went ignored/unread, it sounds a bit over the top, but again we only have one side of the story of course.

Lesson might be, wait to click until after you rez, to be on the safer side.

He should've waited for you to move, though and should've asked nicer. Then again if he was mid performance - well in a real concert the bouncers might've done worse.

I tend to look for poles I can dance on when I go to a club.

I go to clubs not to be entertained, but to be entertaining. :D

I want to be a spectacle that everyone can enjoy, and if I do that well, it only helps the venue out.

Places that restrict the poles - to me that's like restricting the dance floor. Why am I there if I can't be seen?

The notion of getting booted for doing something that, if not told not to do, is perfectly normal, seems strange and unfair. Yes - every parcel owner has a right to run it how they want... but there is a difference between what can be done and what should be done...

Yes - let's have a dance outing - see how many poles we can click.

You should have told him that cage dancing makes you extremely horny and you screw the brains out of the stage manager afterwards, but in ejecting you he missed his chance.
