A lot of us have had relationships go south in SL. And more than a few of those relationships have gone south in truly bizarre ways. So what are the most mind numbingly lame relationship tragedy's you been exposed to in SL.

(A nod to Thundar Muggins and his deliciously Machiavellian 'Mom' post)

Mine:

1. Romantic entanglements "sister" logs on using RE's account to tell people that RE 'has to go away on business for a while'. This after RE was sent IM's from several people advising her that she was found out to be a guy.

2. RE gives birth and needs some time off... same RE that was later exposed as a guy, and unfortunately RE had forgotten she had friended some people who move in the same circle as her partner with an alt that was known to be her, and didn't disable "see online status" for those friends *shakes head*.

3. Person 1 likes sex a lot. Person 2 wants to be exclusive with P1. P1 is a little dubious since both are currently dating other people. Both eventually become single. P2 then involves Person 3 to test P1's ability to be faithful, even though P1 and P2 are not yet dating officially. P3 makes Alt 1. A1 then seduces P1 which P2 then uses as proof that P1 is not trustworthy... That is truly psychotic. (thankfully I was watching from the sidelines on that one)

4. Person 1 and Person 2 are partnered. Person 3 is friends with both. Person 4 used to date Person 1 but went crazy and disappeared. P1 is offline for an extended period, possibly giving birth again. P2 and P3 are hanging out. P4 IM's P2 out of the blue and 'wants to talk' about P1. P2 completely oblivious to the insanity of P4 agrees to tp to P4's location. P4 asks to have sechs nao with P2 immediately upon P2's arrival. P2 gets a little freaked and tp's in P3 to help get the conversation back onto the proposed P1 track. P3 decides it would be humorous to cage P4 and do some old fashion inquisition interviewing. P4 completely loses their mind, RL death threats ensue for days on end from P4's 20+ alts.. yeah, a bit too RL crazy for me too.

Wouldn't even post them because everyone involved are here in RA and I value their privacy way too much - my own included.

Strangely, the most drama-ridden thing I have seen was in RL, not SL...

The most bizarre thing I've seen is what happened to my main.

Main is in the Free Dove looking for clothes. Random person comes up and says "can I be your mom?"

Main says, "Umm. Okay?"

Mom says, "Want to meet your little brother?! :D" and pulls out some prim baby-thing....

Then "Mom" tells Main to change her clothes, and drags her to a creepy amusement park. Main was decently dressed, if a little chilly. *falls over*

I've seen relationship dramas in RL that one wouldn't even believe could happen in SL. Luckily they didn't involve me!

Not in SL, but in another virtual world... two apparent alts with similar typos in their name and description engaging in a variety of shenanigans... and turning out to actually be alts of two completely different people, known to us all, discovered in a terminal room at a convention. They were sitting next to each other coordinating the prank, and the person they were pretending to be alts of noticed what they were up to while he was waiting in line to use a terminal.

Moral: when you're pretending to be alts of someone, know what they look like in real life.

Or at least don't do it at a convention where half the people in the player group are roaming the halls.

I think the "Anatomy of a fail" thread would be in the mix somewhere.

Mind numbingly lame relationship tragedy? hehe.. okay..

Way back when, I dated this guy who was perfectly nice, funny, outspoken, etc.. great relationship and we got along extremely well. Couple months into it he started acting snippy, dodgy, just plain wierd, so I asked him about it. After this big old half-hour build up to finally telling me, he confessed he was a heroin addict in RL. He was a successful business owner, tons of friends, good family, and NObody knew.
He never counted on:
1) Me not screaming and running for the hills.
2) Me not being put off to the point of it affecting our relationship.
3) Me being supportive and willing to work through it with him.
4) Me being an ex substance abuse councelor.
He was so floored that I wasn't totally disgusted with him, and so relieved that he finally told someone that the only emotion he could handle was to lash out at me. Daily harassment, insults, comments, etc.. Had to leave and mute him about a week later, and removed him from my list a couple after that. That was it... The guilt got him.
He threw away probably the best influence he had.. someone who would've stuck with him through the BS, worked with him towards getting him into treatment, and someone who had experience and insight to his exact issue... To me, that IS the definition of "mind numbingly lame".

I've seen some doozies, several from people that are firends, and you'd need a 3d flow chart to make sense of them.

me I just laugh and say "WTF do people make things so complicated."

Fake internet deaths FTW

+2 points if it occurs after an extended fake terminal illness.
+2 points if the word is passed by a "family member" who has nothing better to do in their immediate bereavement than figure out the deceased's password and log into SL.
-10 points if the deceased remains members of the same groups as you and can seen by "last online" status to still be logging in from beyond the grave months later

I have had a best friend leave without saying anything and delete all his accounts.

That was upsetting.

try some of the furry relationships... not a sl one... but watched a 'family' on a different one.

Lets just say the family tree + relationship tree was a three dimensional knot that would violate the laws of space and time...

Now add in one that cheated on two of their partners in that relationship...

Look at my post count. I can barely be considered a forum poster. Don't hold it against me when it comes to... er... "holding it against me".

No relationship dramas here, just one brief intense relationship and one long, slow, deliberate, happy one. :)

But the rest of you, please, carry on. /gets popcorn and settles in.
