Hi I'm new! -waves-

I currently run a Kitsune(Fox / Furry) with abit of a gritty background story kind of a Victorain / medieval / gothic / Slavery era theme and I'm trying very hard for find a place to rp.

Exploring the world of sl just for a few days everything is still very confusing for me to find places to rp as I'm used to Forum based rp'ing. some places I'v found i felt very out of place as a furry. so i was wondering if anyone knew some good places?
(no I'm not looking for night clubs or -yiff- joints)

some rps I'd really love to take are in are like

japanese middle ages rp
(for this I'd take a human shape and do the whole spirt kitsune thing)

gothic, midevil, Victorain, vampire demons.
anything that will make a white fox in a Lolita gothic doll dress might fit in

I herd something about a place called "Gorean" or something but i herd it's kinda tribal compared to what i really like in a rp i'v love to get more info about it but i havnt found any.

i will say some things in my self defence since i'v already came across people who dont like furrys or like to turn down the fact i'm only a few days old in sl.

I'm a good rp. i might make typeos or spelling errors. but i am just like everyone elce. I'm just trying to find a nice place for myself in the sl rp world.

if anyone whould give me some land marks and info on some places I'd really love it!

Hi and welcome to SL.

I really don't know of any furry roleplaying, but there are good medieval and fantasy places as well as dark roleplay.

Gor I can help most on, I have an alt in Gor who is a free woman of a wagon camp. Gor varies a lot depending on the role you chose and it is more medieval than tribal. The sims are based on cities and areas of Gor from the books and the charactors vary a lot from the City to the mercs and outlaws to the panther girls in the forests etc.

There are a massive amount of Gor sims that all interact with each other for roleplay, so if you are based on one sim you do have dealings with many others.

If you would like a look around Gor, IM my account Chokolate Latte and will give you more info.

No as furries did not exist in Gor, not for any personal reasons.

Actually some play larls etc in Gor, tiger like animals though of course they can't talk IC.

Furries are not allowed in Gorean based sims Gor is a wonderful time and if you want to experience the lifestyle or RP you will have to go at it as a human.

I'm an Elf and generally do not get hassled but I have been a Gorean since late 04.

Hun? I wonder why they dont mix.. well anyways from what I'v herd it's nothing like the rp 'm used to so I wont even bother.

I found "one" rp place jsut for furrys. it's caleld the wilds but i have to wait and see what happens, i honestly dont think i'd fit well in there..

and people say "furry" like it's a bad thing. gezz to behonest i'm more kitsune then anything. (kitsunes are japanese based spirts sort of thing far cry from being a furry) but there isny many avis out there for it. hehehe..

if i said i was a dragon. or a lizard or a werewolf people whould act differintly. -srugs- people are just werid i gess.

if i was rich i'd make a sim.. or part of a sim .-. for role players that might want to join in, in such an rp.. -ponders this- well it be fun anyways ^^

The reason they don't mix is because there are no furries in Gor, much like a Medieval RP sim wouldn't want you there as a robot. It ruins the look and feel of a roleplay sim if people wonder around looking totally out of place.

With roleplay you have to have a valid charactor for the setting or it totally ruins it.

Oh, don't forget...the vampires, aliens, Mechs and anything non-human don't mix in Gor either.

Goreans want their RP to be true to the book series and in those books there were no Furries, or Vampires or Dragons..... though I guess you could show up as a Giant insect and claim to be a God I guess...

Who's saying Furry is a bad thing? They have a reputation in SL of *only* being concerned with Cyber, and usualy the Kinkier the better, so often you get pre-judged by the form you take.

if i said i was a dragon. or a lizard or a werewolf people whould act differintly. -srugs- people are just werid i gess.

No, you get pretty well the same reaction no matter what non-human form you take. People who do not RP just dont get it, and to them Different = Bad ... Ignorance and intollerance soon follows. ... but saying that a furry probably gets treated better in SL than a Black Movie star standing outside of a posh hollywood night club in RL.

if i was rich i'd make a sim.. or part of a sim .-. for role players that might want to join in, in such an rp.. -ponders this- well it be fun anyways ^^

There are lots of Sims where RP is accepted already, check them out first... if you want to try a nice post apocalytic / Fantasy RP (over 19 sims big) try Norsim . .. while there isnt a specific furry faction they have once called Mythical which is a catch all for "everything else" ... they also have a Neko faction you may fit in with.

Good Places to Rp? (-trying to fit in)

*Be warned*

In sl it's alot different then in here. In sl, you can adjust to any of the rp they have there as it's not hard. Here, it's a lot different unlike over there. Here, you need to be really convincing. You need to be a good actor/actress. To fit in, to be accepted as one of them you have to learn how to be as phony as possible. Oh, yeah, this is the key here. Without it they'll see right thru' you and it's a no-go then.

First, act and write in how much you love everyone and how much you love the world. How you deeply feel for everyone and their problems. How you want to rid the world of hunger, etc. You need to always chip in adding how sorry you feel when someone writes in their problems.

Very important to always, always, no matter what, always act like you really care about the rest of them and what they have to say.

Remember, phoniness is the key.

Make sure you have an alt join that group, in case nobody else joins within 48 hours, or else you'll lose it. Groups with only one member are disbanded by LL after 48 hours.

Honestly I've looked for a lot of good RP sims too and what I've found is that you should really be looking more for people who are really seasoned RP'ers to hang around with. Once you actually find a good group it doesn't matter which sim you go to or how empty it is because you have a good group of people to sustain a story.

I think you are going to have to be more open to 'fit in'. I offered at the beginning of the thread to just show you around the different parts of Gor and lifestyles there as you said you would like to know more, but you turned that down saying you had heard things about it. As I said before there are a lot of different sims with different types of charactors.

Want to find somewhere to call home? Then take a look around where people suggest, you don't have to join but will have a lot better understanding of what is out there and the people involved than just going on what you have heard, often from people who really don't know. I have been round many roleplay sims, often places I doubt would have interest in, but you can only know by actually going there and looking around and meeting the people.

Very few people would feel they fit in anywhere instantly, it's about spending time and effort to get to know people and learning what goes on.

All of the people I have met from Gor, have all been close minded, and offensive. I've been insulted more by Gor males than I have any other demograpic. I play an androgynous male demon, and I guess it threatens their masculinity. Funny thing is tho, I've never stepped foot on a gorean sim, it's always been random encounters in stores.

Seems like a lot of hatred and drama for just a rp group..

/shrugs.

There are a number of RP sims that allow Werewolf/Lycan characters (as well as vampires, demons, nekos, angels, and various other "supernatural" or non-human avatars). Many of these tend to be dark, post-apocalyptic settings.

One sim that I am familiar with along these lines is the City of Lost Angels in the Lost Angels sim. A white kitsune in a gothic dress actually wouldn't be too out of place there. Lost Angels uses a combat meter called CCS (Community Combat System) tto facilitate Role Playing (but combat is not necessarily required for roleplaying). There are also other sims like Toxia that use the similar Dynamic Combat System (DCS), such as Toxia. CCS is free, DCS costs L$70.

Because these combat meters support different "race" categories (ie Lycan, Vampire, Human), many of the sims that use CCS or DCS tend to support a variety of non-human avatars.

As for Japanese sims, if you're using a human av, I would strongly recommend checking out Samurai Island.

I have had a few gor players from my old haunting grounds tell me that in the much later books, there was a planet with creatures much like anthros on it.

They existed - they did not interact. If you run an RP based on a fantasy setting, expect the unexpected.

That said: To the OP - I personally just RP where I can. I don't bother with specific areas or sims.

I honestly don't think that role play works very well in Second Life. Control of the avatars is too crude to make the sort of complex physical actions you can do in text possible. No, I don't mean *that* kind of action; I mean, -

"Egil walks across the room and picks up the lighter from the desk. He doesn't use it, though - just stands there, back to the door, letting the wheel rasp and spark as he repeatedly turns it with his thumb. Long seconds pass before he turns at last and rasps, 'Yes,' his expression making clear that that single word is the one he least wanted to use in reply."

So, you end up typing that sort of character-driven text in chat rather while your avatar stands there looking vaguely dorkish in a setting that might vary from somewhat well done and appropriate to eyebleedingly ugly. Not good.

SL is good for "dancing" (which I fail to get), humping (ditto), and otherwise sort of BSing around. For creative role play, though, it's a lot of CPU overhead to do something that a telnet client and a good imagination do better.

You're quite right, SL as a technical platform offers no advantages for freeform roleplaying.

However, many role-plays on SL are not purely freeform - for example, the Goreans have their scripted collars and bows and similar things, and many sims have combat systems.

Also, freeform roleplaying does still occur on SL because, if the people happen to meet each other on SL, there is no particular reason for them to move to a telnet-based site.

But yes, I did get a bit burnt by buying some land hoping to build or prefab an area for roleplaying before finding that the most effective role-playing I was doing was just done in IM sessions (no mismatching graphics to distract us!)

I once got ejected from a Gorean market because I was wearing Neko ears and tail. No explanation first, although I doscovered later that Nekos are about as welcome as furrys.

Yup yup. But if you're female neko, you last longer. ;-) I recently wandered around a Gorean sim with a visitor tag and while I was left alone, I had the distinct impression I was not welcome. Which is fine since I have interest beyond curiosity and shall never go back to such places.

There's lots of RP happening on different levels in SL, and I think it's a matter of finding where you fit in. This takes time and hitting the classifieds and maybe even hanging out in some commercial areas to try and connect with others you think would share your RP interests.

The only Japanese RP I've come across is the Geisha kind or combat kind. I've not found anything else.

Although I did write a backstory to explain my neko shinto shrine to explain the neko who wander about. ha ha

Good luck!
