Help anyone please.
I keep getting this message when I arrive on my land or am on it for a while.
COPYBOT SECURITY SYSTEM (ignore this msg): !quit
I can't figure out where it is coming from. I've check the objects and there are no foreign objects on my land. I can find any reference to a gadget in the SL search.
Does anyone know what is generating this message and how to find the device please.
Thanks - D

Some people have been good at chasing these stupid things down..
If you post an slurl of where you've seen this message, somebody will probably take a look around and let you know where it's coming from.

Might indeed be something on your neighbours plot if you have any. Everytime I log on in my home location I get a shouted message as well. It's coming from the next plot. It's only ever the one shout though.

If it doesn't change its name a scan script might locate it for you (won't work if it's part of a linkset and not the main prim) but since llSensor still isn't working right there's a chance it's located on one of the sims around you as well.
Another trick that can sometimes work is to log on and disconnect your net (without logging out) so you'll end up "ghosted" in-world for a few minutes in which case the scripted IM will hopefully go to your email and include the exact sim and location of the item.

I have one of these on my property. Its a protection item that stops copybots from stealing textures, etc. from the parcel. I can't remember the name of it exactly, but I believe I got it from SLX. I have to admit its annoying since everytime anyone, including myself, goes onto the property that "quit" thing pops up and the msg doesn't seem clear to anyone seeing it the first time. There are quite a few business in SL that use this to keep their creations safe from the thieves out there.

Really. edit: Well, it might stop people from being not-annoyed at you and stop you from having whatever L$ you paid for it but that's it..

AR it as spam, and file a Support Ticket on it as well.
The "!quit" command only worked on fist version CopyBot programs. The makers corrected this and now there is no way to stop CopyBot through LSL commands. CopyBot is an external program on a person's PC and only looks at video data stored on their own PC's video buffer.
Any device that claims to be a "CopyBot Defeater" is a scam as far as I'm concerned.

From: Giz Ihnen There are quite a few business in SL that use this to keep their creations safe from the thieves out there. Actually, very few places seem to use them anymore. As I understand it, they're pretty easy for thieves to work around, so mostly what you're doing is spamming your customers and neighbors.

I fear that you have fallen foul of unscrupulous sellers capitalising on urban (or Grid) myth. It does not stop copybots at all, not that they are in any way a threat in any case. Much was written on the subject at the time; the "!quit" thing only ever worked on a very early copybot prototype which also asked people if they wished to be copied. It simply serves to annoy visitors, which will lose you many more sales than a copybot ever would. I would remove the item, complain to the seller and advise your friends not to use any such thing.

CopyBot Security Systems are pointless at this point in time.
Second Life itself has been patched to prevent the original CopyBot working. Anyone who is capable of patching it to work with the current SL, will also be capable of patching it to prevent it responding to !quit. (In fact, the latter is a much _easier_ patch.)

~Jessy This is indeed true. Anything that arrives on my computer can be mine, if I want it, and nothing can stop me from taking it, apart from my own scruples.

MUCH appreciated! i hate being had... >:-/ No worries, mate. Most of us have had the "I was duped!!" stories in SL. Like RL, people here prey on those who haven't the information to dispute and they play on fears. Fear of having your hard work "stolen" is a big one. Not to fear you up, but I can think of three (easy to use) programs to "steal" textures (all freeware). The CopyBot program can not steal textures though. What it's purose is, is to re-create the image of primwork. It "sees" the design of teh prims and recreates the object prim-by-prim. It does texture them, but does not pass on the textures themselves. It can copy clothes, but also copies teh skin underneath. All in all it is quite limited, and INTENSELY (some say needlessly) complicated to use. Anyone too lazy to make their own items in SL, is prolly too lazy to use this CopyBot, heh. Oh, and as for my "I've been duped!!"?....I bought a skin when I first started for 8000L$. I found it later in a freebie shop. *shrugs* ~Jessy

What I find much more offensive is that there are still people profiteering from this, selling spam devices a year after the whole "copybot" shenanigans, when it was known within a very short space of time that this was not at all effective. Oooh, it makes me very cross.

oooohhhh I am, you know, a very measured person most of the time, and try to remain so, thus it is probably best that I avoid participating on said thread lest my sarcastic tongue overwhelm me. But I am sure that the "magic copybot defeating script" works despite there being no indication of how, or why, or any evidence apart from Avatar X and Avatar Y saying it does. Why, there was a copybot standing right there stealing boots, and the Magic Copybot Script removed it instantly! And public testing is worthless in the face of such cynicism. See - the fact that some people said an entirely unconnected script would not work, and it does, means that _this_ script must work! That is logic of which Aristotle would be proud.

Somebody needs to do a new "copybot protector" in SLX that does absolutely nothing. Maybe, at most, IM the owner once-in-a-while saying that it's still working. One prim, maybe a shiny one, with a script that just IMs the owner saying "don't worry."
Add some marketing blurb saying that it protects as well as any other copybot protector out there and sell it for L$0. I will buy one and rate it and comment that it works for me at least as well as others do but without the annoying spam. Really.

I shall be selling a rock, which protects against tigers. For all the time that I have had this rock I have never been attacked by a tiger, thus it is proven to work.
You would not understand the scripting, it is far too complex for cynics to comprehend.

I disagree. It should say, "Don't worry. Be happy."
