After reading all of the posts so far I am once again reminded of how many people there are trolling these forums screaming doom and gloom for SL and LLs.
Its a shame you can't see the beauty, the magic and the wonder of what LLs have created instead of focusing on a few bugs here and there. Ah well, no point rehashing old arguments, the glass is half empty people will never see it any differently, even if 20 years from now they are still here 10 hours a day. For me, I say by next year the grid will be more stable, concurrency will be between 90k - 100k with very little strain - shadows may be in RC stage - new avatar meshes will be introduced - I'll still be singing the praises of LL's no matter how many people try to shut me up! LOL Cheers! Handy |

1) My computer will no longer be able to run Second Life by the end of the year.
2) Within the next 12 months, I will not upgrade my computer solely to run Second Life. 3) Over the next year, Linden Lab will make at least ten major announcement of new features or major fixes which will vastly improve the Second Life experience. 4) By the end of the year, Linden Lab will not have implemented any of the new features or major fixes that it has announced. 5) By the end of the year, Linden Lab will have implemented less than two of the major features or fixes that it promised last year. ---------- Okay, those were rather safe predictions. I'll actually make one prediction that is not so easy. 6) The shoddy way in which Linden Lab operates Second Life as a place for Second Life businesses will finally screw the wrong person for the right amount of money, triggering a nightmare year in litigation for the Linden Lab legal department. |

Along with the "I caught my spouse having an affair at the Bondage Ranch" articles, there will also be more media attention to the meaning of virtual vs. "real" interaction and identity...more academics will choose it as a thesis. Oh crap. That means more surveys. ![]() _____________________

Oh crap. That means more surveys. ![]() Yep, get ready to have ourselves studied to death. I think we should start charging. We will become a demographic at some point. _____________________

When shadows get implemented, and the interior of builds are dark unless you have interior lights, will there be a significant additional computation cost involved owing to the need to calculate interior lights in every build that has walls and a roof that people want to be able to see inside of?
If so, we might see a reduction in the number of buildings, with people just setting their furniture and gadgets outdoors, and we might see the creation of an "SL Power and Light Company", which in an attempt to keep the number of lights manageable, will bill people for amount of light they use, or perhaps there will a display of "Object Rendering Cost", similar to the Avatar Rendering Cost display. This is not necessarily a very serious comment. _____________________

Hm. The end of facelights! At least, for non-photography purposes.

but we have reached the 78,000 mark. A week or so ago when I loged in it said 80,+ and I will say the grid was stable. |

Hm. The end of facelights! At least, for non-photography purposes. at some point, probably while photographing I had attached a facelight, I went somewhere and this glow followed me... (I crashed and went nini so the next day this happend) and I was trying to get away from the annoying avatar with the flashlight who was spotlighting and no matter where I went.... there it was.. Then I realized it was me! I was like doh! "detach" heheh |

6) The shoddy way in which Linden Lab operates Second Life as a place for Second Life businesses will finally screw the wrong person for the right amount of money, triggering a nightmare year in litigation for the Linden Lab legal department. Which will in turn shut down all grid activity and all portals into second life and we will be left with thousands of dollars invensted in a company now bankrupt..... |

Within the next 12 months, taxing authorities around the world will begin opening their own shops in SL to collect revenue from L$ transactions, beginning with either the IRS or a taxing authority in the EU.

Yahoo buys Linden Labs, and creates a Yahoo Widget version of Ajax Life.
