Hi all,

it's your friendly neighbourhood n00b, with this weeks n00b question of the week.

We've all been to a dance club in SL (well i have anyway) and seen the DJ up in his booth, spinning the tunes, making announcements and playing the requests.

Here's the question ...

How does he/she do that?

I have searched for ages, trying to find a DJ school (for want of better wording). i know how to play streaming media on my land (thank you Torley for your tutorial) But i'm greedy . . . i want more.

Is there such a place in SL that teaches you how to DJ ? . . . or is somebody willing to share their knowledge with others (hey, or just me *grins*)

as always,

thanks in advance

I did something very similar when I ran an internet radio station. Others may do it differently ... but I used Shoutcast with Winamp, a microphone and an extensive music library. :) That and a little practice. DJing is only difficult when it comes to reading the crowd, getting folks having a good time and keeping things moving. That's where the talent comes in.

Thanks ghosty, i'm looking at shoutcast now.

i'm guessing that i'd need to download the 'be a DJ' pack, as opposed to the 'be a server' pack

Here is another thread with a similar question and my lengthy reply. I'm pasting the thread rather than repeat it all:

Also.. from my understanding there is a DJ school in SL. Try using the In-world search.. Searching under Education

won't a sam broadcaster class only be useful to those using sam?

(I miss my sam) *cries*

Of course. Winamp is ok but SAM Broadcaster is just a better interface for online DJing. If they have a MAC they would likely use Nicecast. Other PC-based DJ software is Traktor and Virtual DJ (many of the Live Mix DJs use these). Out of the three for PC that is most commonly used I find SAM Broadcaster the easiest to comprehend.

SUGGESTION: If you want to just try SAM - I do nto suggest you download the SAM4 trial. It attaches to your computer's registry and completely stops the SAM from working after a short while. At least the SAM3 trial will allow you to continue DJing indefinitely with just a broadcast message thrown in from time to time.

bah I used to use my ex's copy, then well, we split, and I had pc issues and lost all the info (and no way I am gonna get it again heh)

so I downloaded the sam4 and yep I can no longer use it as it expired *whaaaa*

I used to use winamp, and for the life of me I can not remember how to get the mic to work on it, I tried everything and it just will not pick up the mic, streams the music just fine)

*sigh*
