I dunno, I really don't get all this aggression towards customers. I'd say the biggest mistake buyers make is buying from anyone with a whole list of rules and regulations about how they can be contacted and what they refuse to do if you don't get everything exactly right first time.
Secopnd, it's not "We gots RULES and you will OBEY". It is "We gots limited time and lots of folks needing a slice of it, we're needing to be a bit strict about time management."
In my case, I ask folks not to just say "Hi" at me, but to ask their question right off. Is it because I hate customers? Nope, opposite. I don't want them ending up in a "Hi" round-robin with me as we try to see when we accidentally end up online at the same time. I've lost customers to that in the past (Your service sucks because you never answered the question I never got around to asking). It's just better for the customer to hit me with the question. (Plus, often I can easily answer while off-line, so they get what they need far faster.)
People do get mad at me for asking they don't just say "hi" at me. I can't win for losing.
I do suspect customer service in SL is a bit on the poor side, overall. I get some outright shocked reactions from folks when I respond to them, they act like they're in totally unfamiliar territory wondering what to do not that someone finally answered. The reactions include gaping jaw if I hop on a problem before the customer contacts me. I sell copy-only items. Buying one twice is a waste of money, so I made my vendor system tell me if someone's bought two in a row, so I can get thier money back to them. I figure thier shock is a sign of poor service most other places. I get the feeling the merchants in this thread have all seen that shock at some point.
AmIrite?
