As a technical writer, I want to get this right! Do you put the L$ before or after the number? Is there an authoritative style guide for this?

LL seems to prefer L$10. I usually write 10L (no $) to avoid confusion, since so often US dollars work their way into conversations about prices.

I don't know ... tell you what. Give all your Lindens to me, and I will examine them carefully. Then I'll be able to tell you what they'd like to be called.

Yes, that's how I write as well: 10L. Otherwise confusion may happen, specially for customers with dislexia.

I usually just use 10L too. No confusion as to what dollars you're using.

L$10, following the standard rule for currency symbols e.g. AUS$10, Can$10, US$10, and also the UI and LL's own statements. I suppose you could put 100 L$ instead of L$100, which would still be clear, but if you write $100 you should write L$100 in similar circumstances.

I always write it as L$10 and in the context of SL if I am discussing RL funds I always specify that as US$10 so there won't be any confusion.

What I really wonder is if anyone else pronounces it in their mind as "Ell-string-ten" when they write L$10... :)

I always write 10L. I never even think "dollar," let alone type it.

We need a new nickname for linden dollars. Like the way you can say bucks for dollars as in, "That'll be ten bucks man."

How about 'denz'

Me: How much did that dress cost you?
Someone: Only 400 denz!!

I'd think they'd be called 'phils' though I don't see myself ever using that..

edit: or maybe Zees since Zee Linden is the CFO.

oddly I tend to write it 10$L, or 10$US, or 10$EU... and read it as 10<unit> such as 10 linden, 10 dollars, 10 euros, etc.... a written as spoken approach

could also depend on you language, I speak english, so adjectives go before the noun they modify... other languages not so.

of course in your view pane for your balance it's L$10... as noted previously

I do very similar. 10L$ just seems to flow for me though I can see the argument for the denomination followed by quantity.

I change my mind as I go along. It also depends on what people have already said etc. Today I am in a 10$L mood but I have been known to say 10L$, L$10, or even $10L  lol

Just as well they were not named Cories then...

On the question "What's the correct style: L$10 or 10L$ ?"

L$10 'is correct'
L$10,000,000 is 'style'

I suppose is like lindens do, that's: L$10, but to be honest I usually use: 10 lindens :S I know that's not correct, but anyway there's no prob when using that.

Yes, that's how I write as well: 10L. Otherwise confusion may happen, specially for customers with dislexia.

I've been to places (auctions, I should have noted before this edited in note) that kept saying something cost 25$ (or $25) and I freaked and just sat there with my jaw hanging down. Later learned that they were talking about Lindens.

I almost always say 10L. Ok, I always say 10L, I do not think I have ever said L10, and I know that I have never ever said L$10 or 10L$.

I'm pretty sure everyone calls them 'Ls' (elles). At least I do..

"Thats way to many Ls to spend."

to solve this issue send your 10 lindens to me.

Then you can figure out how to express zero lindens.
