Even better is that Emerald has a feature called "max avatars" and anything over that will be shown as imposters. You can set that as low as 1 if you wish.

Forget ARC. You need to watch your ktris/fr (thousands of triangles or polygons per frame) and your results depend on your computer. Good computers handle a lot of ktris/fr just fine. If your computer doesn't then buy a new one. Or lower your graphics settings and be happy you can still connect. Or disable atmospheric effects (windlight) since on high it adds 130,000 polys whether you can see them or not.
Well let's be straight on this. Windlight doesn't lag good computers. Your client lag is your computer's problem and isn't going to get any better. An example is the new Linden Home sims that will make a whole lot of systems croak... Ever seen 15 million polygons? Here you go: http://bit.ly/15000ktris Like I said it isn't getting any better. I am already planning to upgrade my video card. |

Is that the same functionality as the debug setting RenderAvatarMaxVisible in the official viewer? And I think the Mesh Detail slider for Avatars in Edit-Preferences-Graphics-Custom does something very similar, though not identical, at least if my reading of http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Avatar_Impostors is correct. I don't know if it's the same debug setting, I presume it is. It's just exposed nicely in Emerald. |
