I'm willing to bet that if i were to pull out the 9600 right now and put in the biggest and baddest nvidia 9800 that I still would not *feel* much of an increase in performance...

I'm going to switch from nVidia 7300GT/256 to ATi HD3650/512, so I definitely expect a visibly improved experience.


please let us know how that goes. I'm personally very curious how much of a boost 512 will give over a 256 as I think that's a more practical comparison.

an aside for folks with 4GB and XP or Vista32:

Many people have convinced XP to use all 4GB, but not everyone is successful. If you have anything mission critical or do not want to risk having your OS bork, don't try it. If you're adventurous and just gotta get that 4GB working here's the skinny:

disable Virtual Memory, why waste a 1GB physical RAM just to have 1GB Virtual RAM?!? (that's what XP does by default :rolleyes: )

this alone fixes it for some folks, if not try:

add the /3GB switch to boot.ini. This forces XP to allocate 3GB user space and 1GB system space.

that fixes most 4GB folks, If you have *more* than 4GB or if it didn't work try:

add the /PAE switch to boot.ini (you *may* need to remove the /3GB or *may* need both). This enables a different type of memory addressing. Note, on some machines, that added overhead in memory address translations can SLOW DOWN the machine overall even with the additional RAM.
