I hate spam!!!

So I just logged in, and right after the usual stuff that shows up in your chat list (so-and-so is online, AO activated, etc), I immediately get two identical notices in green text (object chat text, in other words) from something called "Networked Update Server v2.6", which is advertizing slot machines at a certain place (a SLURL was included). Can somebody please tell me how to find these objects so I can wish them into the cornfield?

Mystitool has a object chat identifier in it. You can find and mute them and AR them.

Aww, you mean I'm going to HAVE to buy the Mystitool? I was feeling all good about being able to get along so well without something everyone says I need.

I got that earlier too, where's it coming from?

I hear they will be disabling accounts of those that do not buy the Mystitool by June 20. Just a heads up.

there is a free version of mystitool avalable, my alt has it, he found it in the caledon rez area.

I can't guarantee it has the chat finder thingo in it tho.

I got it twice too, and both times were soon after logging in. I assumed it's an object that's been placed in the sim and I passed nearby, but on reflection it could be simply IMing names that it knows, and that are logged in.

I've been getting the same thing too. The only place I think we've all ever been is here. Maybe someone is pulling names from the forums to spam.

Until someone can get LL to shut this guy down we'll all be having spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, spam, spam, and spam.

I got the farking thing twice this morning. Funny that it went to my email, given that I wasn't logged in.. and it had the object's owner listed on the thing. Mute, mute and I thought about ARing it.

Yeah, do AR that, gambling is against TOS. Hey if I can't set MY slots back up, then lawd help me NOBODY ELSE WILL EITHER!!!!!!!

I went into the belly of the beast. Well, it's a rental yacht, actually, stuffed with unoccupied slot machines, and at the coordinates given, a little stack of server-painted scripted prims near the ceiling. None profess to be the dread Networked Update Server v2.6 by object name, but a couple are named for the Sir himself, who was trudging around the yacht mournfully rezzing boxes of slot machines, their bright colors somehow adding to the grim mood of the place, rather like an abandoned amusement park.

None of which helps in any way, of course, but that's my report of tonight's field trip.

I got this too - several times - I muted the owner of the object and filed an AR. The owner was marked in my IM to email text so it was easier

hiya Dakota *waves* on my AR dialog you can pressa little blue button which opens up a person chooser - then I typed in his name and hit the Find button. Do you not have that on yours?

I had two of these in my email this morning too. I just muted the guy when I logged in.

I started to file the AR but didn't think to recheck the email to see who sent it.

I think he knows by using a whisper server with a list of names he can avoid most of the ARs for spamming

Ah, no I didn't know that. I don't know anything about ARing really, because I've never AR'd anyone before.

But, if I get the same spam when I log in later this afternoon, I'll definitely send an AR. If I'm interested in slot machines, I'll look them up in search.

Or perhaps that's drastic? Maybe we should just IM this fellow and ask him to remove our names from his list. I'd be inclined to do that rather than AR...except, aren't slot machines (gambling) not allowed in SL?

You'd think, huh? Apparently ARing gaming devices is a bit of a crap-shoot itself, and the outcome depends not so much on the device as it does from which side of the bed the responding G-Teamster arose that morning. And perhaps the phase of the moon, but that theory is untested until the SL moon isn't full.

I'd AR, if I got the spam. This Sir might be a nice guy and all, but he's running a shipboard casino and sending spam; not sure where that ranks on the continuum between Model Citizen and Pillar of the Community.

considering how pro-active some folks are he better have scripts, object entry and build off at this place. Some tend to take more vigilante style actions versus our friendly ARs

Phases of the moon...what a great idea!!! Is there a JIRA on this one? The moon OUGHT to have phases. Maybe a cycle every week, with the moon at Full every Friday and Saturday.

Just a note:

Mystitool does not help with locating the source of IMs. Only you (your client) can "see" IMs directed to you. Mystitool cannot, because it cannot intercept them in any way.

Well, when I logged in today I got no spam. Perhaps the problem was fixed by other ARs. So, I'm still 0 - 0 on sending ARs.

Actually I have only ever sent 4 ARs so far - 3 of those were for people admitting they were underage on the adult grid and the last was this guy.
My feelings about it were that he didn't ask me to sign up to his spam service so I should not have to ask nicely to be taken off it - ARs are just fine for this as it will hopefully show him that his strategy of spamming will only cause him strife with the Lindens.
