Because this is not getting updated...

From: Phil Deakins
For an av's Picks to count as links to places, the av must have an html page for the links to be on. Only certain types of avs have html pages, so adding picks to general bots is useless. We had a whole thread on the topic, including doing tests.

More recent discussion:

From: Kitty Barnett
The/a "master page" (it looks like the one I found is the root of the crawler, but there could be more of them I guess) has 6 links:
* agents
* classifieds
* events
* groups
* regions
* traffic

(Which would suggest that places are only found through either avie picks, the region page or if it has enough traffic to warrant listing on the traffic pages)

Agents: this one is a bit odd. It has a major header for each day of the week, each followed by 30 links to pages full of avie names.

Classifieds: subcategorized into All and 13 "Top XXX" categories (would suggest that the top 10 paying classifieds used to get a total of 14 incoming links and so on, but all the end pages linked to don't exist anymore so it's essentially useless)

Events: a page with 4 links to all events happening on that day (at this time May 19th through May 22nd)

Groups: 256 links (based on the first two "letters" of their UUID)

Regions: 16 links (based on the first "letter" of their UUID)

Traffic: 12 links of "Top XXX" categories (I already found out about this a while ago so that was to be expected)

I don't currently have a parcel to optimize for search.

I do however have a wiki user page, which I would like to show up in search.

How do you get your wiki user page to show up in the search results?

Anyone have any idea about whether one avatar having multiple picks for the same location is weighted?

I mean if I have ten picks for one location, would that generate ten picks worth of relevancy or do they having a sliding scale for that?

I don't know the answer to this, but my imagination is that only one will count for any given keyword. It's basically spam, otherwise.

I also have no answer for this. I did a search all for you, Suezanne, and your user page is not mentioned. You are mentioned in another wiki page, and that is what showed up. It may be that user pages are not crawled on purpose.

Just out of interest many people touted the new search as removing traffic as the most important factor and thus reducing gaming of traffic with bots.
However when searching under "Places" tab the results still appear in order of traffic (with my client anyway).

So the real question is how many people use Places tab and how many use All when searching for a product or service they desire?
Im of the opinion if your looking for a shop then your more likely to use Places tab as it keeps the results more concise so in a sense traffic is still king and its still being gamed to gain exposure etc.

Or am i missing something here ? ^_^

Only LL has the hard numbers. The vast majority of new people will use the new search. It's mostly people who have technical difficulty with the UI, people using Old School viewers and rigid hardliners that use the places tab. Places makes sense when you know the exact name of where you're going, or are looking for high traffic places.

For a start, when splitting a parcel, it must be split so that one peice is bigger than the other. Then the biggest piece will keep the orginal data. My best guess about picks is that those that were created when on what is now the biggest piece, will continue to count for it. But those that were created on what is now the smallest piece won't count for any parcel.

It's easy to check by creating a pick on, say, the edge of a largish parcel. Then cutting that spot off and seeing what the pick says in the profile. Picks that are no longer counting say <no parcel> in the little box at the bottom.

ETA:
I should have said that all the picks do *not* become worhless. I've cut small parcels off from my store's large parcel without losing the picks. It's really whether or not the picks that were created on what becomes the small parcel are affected, and I feel sure that they will no longer count for any parcel.
