I write this knowing that LL tend to ban anyone reported as being deemed underage, whether or not it's true. i.e. act first, then ask questions later. Do you feel there is any mileage in pre-empting this by getting LL proof now by way of age verification? or does the burden of proof always have to be presented retrospectively?
I think I read somewhere, that it is unlikely LL will hold information on residents declaration of real age, or am I wrong?

I wanted to verify my age but I can't because I have to say which state of the USA I live in, but I'm in Britain.

My understanding is that people accused of being underage have to send documentry evidence of age direct to LL, even if they have already submitted the exact same documentation to LL for prior accusation(s).

If you think that this is completely insane, you are absolutely right.

It's probable that even if you visited LL offices and logged in while they looked at your aged decaying body, they would suspend you the moment anyone accused you of being underage.

Add:
This proof of age in the case of under-age accusations is in no way related to the general 'age-verification' process via Integrity.
LL do not accept Integrity's verifiction of age in the case of an accusation of under age.

Add again:

I typoed "verifiction" above.

That was brilliantly Freudian. Verifiction - love it!

don't bother trying... the system doesn't work and it's a minor concession really to the anklebitt... err fundamentalist laws that are supposed to protect the children and in fact do nothing.

yeah i sussed that conifer, i live in the uk too....seems totally ironic that we have to live in dread of our account being suspended because somebody someday, decides they didn't like the way we talked to them or something else equally spiteful. I asked this because at the Hanja newbie place alone the other day, along with all the nutters, spammers and griefers, I felt really exposed. Needless to say I won't be going there alone again.

This ban first ask questions later doesn't make sense at all. I mean if that's the case any nutjob griefer could wreak havoc on SL. I could go to every big store in SL and make an ageplay AR on every creator and island owner I see. Wouldn't that seriously piss off people and cause a huge loss of islands and income for LL? Who accused me of ageplay the island owner would ask. That's confidential LL would say. Uh oh they're cancelling their islands and shutting down their stores! Heck. Let's accuse the non-english speaking island owners first. They're screwed right? I mean if ban first ask questions later is indeed their policy AND they decide to not ban some people and ban others what does that mean? It means that the policy is fundamentally broken.

It's not even a fundie thing. It's a childfree thing. I don't like children, I don't want them around, and as far as I'm concerned, they have no rights until they're 18. Age segregation is a good thing. I'd be nice if age verification was mandatory for all areas throughout the metaverse at all times.

Get a clue about age verification online: It's a myth

There is no way to guarantee the person verified on that account is even the person using it.

Little bobby can borrow his brother's license... set up the account and age verify it. He can even send in a scan of his brother's license to reverify after being ar'd for being underage.

the age verification was instituted when the sexual age play thing came out in the press. it was flawed and still is. LL knew this and its wshy its still beta. It was simply a CYA for LL. actually it was billed as "Increasing Trust for Members" which was also a epic fail. I have never used it and I wont, there's becoming way to many 3rd parties involved in SL for me to trust any finacial info of mine in SL. I use SLX only now. even went to basic and removed my CC from SL.

Not if LL's prepared to back it up, and so far they have been.

In which the charges that could be brought against 'em range from forging official documents to computer tresspass. LL should start pursuing computer tresspass cases, given that the PN crashing sims is what keeps triggering the login lockouts lately.

Usually when people stop trusting a company, they stop using the services entirely. Perhaps you should do the right thing.

Nope, this is my only SL name, it's not exactly a secret I think LL should review their alts policy and get rid of 'em. Too many people use alts only to get around bans or run bots.

Actually, the little age drop down boxes is all LL is required to have.

The truth is parents want the company to do what they don't

And to be honest, good luck finding a DA or lawyer that will press charges against a minor for committing identity fraud to gain access to an online service.

Who among us trusts all the companies we do business with?

If I quit doing business with any company that had given me reason to distrust them in some area or another... I'd have to move to a commune in the Dakotas somewhere... and build my own guns from scratch because them damned gun companies can't be trusted...

It happens regularly. And prosecutors are not afraid to send children to federal prison.

Secret Service hauled off this guy for interfering with long distance telephone operations. He didn't learn, and got arrested again a year later for doing basically the same thing. He got off exceptionally light for what he did, probably because of his age; society doesn't need this person.

All members of Boy Scout Explorer Post 414-Milwaukee, WI barely managed to avoid prosecution largely thanks to their Boy Scout status and quick offer to stop their underhanded activities and pay restitution back in 1983.

Why would I do business with a company I don't trust? I'm not prone to being susceptible to coercsion.

Trust is too strong a term for the closest relationship it is safe to have with ANY company.

At least LR isn't a public company. Public companies are required by SEC regulations to be sociopaths.

Those kids were all "breaking into" computers, not getting in just by lying about their age. I don't think there would be much prosecution going on for a kid that gained access to SL (a computer game as far as most are concerned) by using fake info to lie about his age.
