I mentioned suburbia coming to Jessie in another thread.

Things are hotting up (thank goodness).

Briefly:
About mid month, about half of the area was for sale in a variety of parcels.
I bought some microparcels that were not ultra expensive/m.
Someone A bought a parcel on the Western side and put of a classic sort of beach house. The militia attacked them. THey put in a security system and ban lines.
Then they expanded and started on a winter wonderland.
Someone B bought some parcels on the North and wanted more.
A and B between them bought up everything available apart for a 16m for L$9900 and a 400m at an optimistic L$1,000,000.

A expanded winter wonderland, and B dis a lot of extreme terraforming - Jessie allows +/- 40m terraforming.

The Militia / WWIIolers continue a guerilla action against A, warping message flags into the parcels surrounding her land.

Things are shaping up for some drama. Obvious main players with very different agendas are A, B and the Militias.

Here's a view of Jessie from the North today:

On the right (the West) there is A's build, with some of B's terraforming beyond it.
Going left, the inlet with the sailboat belongs to the Second Life Herald. The glowing platform and piano arrived today. Presumably, this is is for the comfort of their war correspondent :)
Left again and you have B's Northern terraform.
To the South (above) that there is a collection of parcels owned by various - inculcating the WWIIolers - hard up against the expanded winter wonderland.
In there too is a 16m owned by a well-known network operator - and it's got ban lines up now.
My three microparcels are marked by round towers with conical roofs. You can see them in a line running sort of diagonally middle to top right.

The island at top right is where the G-Team have their Office Hours. They would be well placed to observe events - but I suspect that they have short draw distances.

Feel free to land in my towers to observe.
Be aware however that I have no defensive measures set up and are set to Damage, so you would stand a chance of being killed - probably by the Militias or their camp-followers.
Currently, the chances are slight. It's generally quiet.

I imagine this is exactly the sort of interesting social interplay Phil Linden had in mind when he started SL.

wow! That is very interesting. And a War Correspondent!

What do you mean they can "kill" you? What does that involve?

From: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Damage

A parcel that has "Damage"/"Not Safe" enabled, which means residents can be harmed on that parcel. When entering a damage-enabled parcel a red heart icon along with the user's current health (in white, usually "100%";) will appear at the top of the screen. Objects that have been scripted can become weapons and harm avatars. An avatar will also take damage if colliding harshly with an object (or the ground), even if that object is unscripted. Health is automatically regenerated over time and will be reset to "100%" if the avatar leaves the parcel. When an avatar's health reaches 0% it will "die" and be teleported to its home location.

Being killed is no big deal. TPed home is all.
However, repeatedly killing someone whose Home is in the damage enabled parcel is considered to be bad form.

Damage-enabled land is the original combat system.
A number of Safe Zone combat systems have been developed. These use invisible prim attachments ( Meters) to record hits by weapons. They work on any land.

Jessie is the original Mainland designated combat sim.
Attempts to use the About Land option to Safe are reset automatically.
No Object Entry works though - which is not conducive to good killing.

Dang! I tp'd over there, directly to a piece of land for sale, and I wasn't even there long enough to stand up and adjust my skirt, before they killed me!

I'm getting the camo ready!

ZOMG Mickey - three years and you didn't know about damage-enabled land?

Sounds like Jessie is waking up a bit, but it's too bad it's got that "growth" on it. Anyone want to dress up as Santas and storm the place?

I wasn't sure what that button was for - I hope I don't have it checked on any land.

I went back when no one was there, and had a nice look around - but when I landed on that one spot, there was someone really close, and they got me right away.

I need to find a cute camouflage outfit before I go back again.

"Getting along with the other children" in the schools that I went to hardly EVER involved firing RPGs and automatic weapons at each other. But then, what do I know? I grew up in a middle class suburb . . . ;)

Is it in the parcel description that Jessie is a battle sim? Or is Jessie now no longer the place on the mainland to battle due to the new adult rulings on guns?

If Linden Lab still considers Jessie a mainland battle sim LL should move the winter wonderland folks at no charge. A noob has no way of knowing what Jessie is traditionally used for.

Jessie is permanently Damage Enabled.
Parcel owners can set the Safe checkbox, but this gets reset automatically after a few seconds.
So - the entire sim is Damage Enabled by design.

Other than whatever parcel name an owner chooses to set, there is no indication on the ground that the place is a combat sim. I don't recall if the first parcel that A bought had Combat in the description.
Some visitors might wonder why the red heart displayed at the top of screen on every parcel in the sim - or not.
'A' expanded her initial holding by a further two parcels of equivalent size after being attacked and learning the Jessie was a combat sim.

Adult?
I understand that violence has to be ultra blood and gore to be classified as adult.

Part of the History - from 2004
http://foo.secondlifeherald.com/slh/2004/09/essay_a_history.html
Lots of pics and scandal!!

but (extract) - "...On August 25, two members of the WWIIOLers, wearing tags identifying themselves as ?terrorists? attacked One Songs erotic club, shooting it up with firebombs and taking time out to do some pole dancing."

In a recent thread, the action of non-staff hopping an a club dance pole was frowned on by some. Bad WWIIOLers!!

Hey, neighbour!

I've got a parcel next to one of your towers (look for the flag with the frilly bloomers). I haven't been there for a while. It's been very peaceful since I bought the land, but if things are hotting up, I should start to pay more attention.

I have no defences and not a clue about weaponry, but am more than happy to dress up and join in with whichever side is the most fun. It's a shame if people are using banlines, though - those are no fun for anybody.

One thing puzzles me - it's not exactly cheap or beautiful land, so why would somebody be attracted there if they don't know its history?

Most of the larger parcels on the water bought by A and B were about 17/m - although the asking price for the NW corner was 25.
17/m is still not outrageous for beachfront on Protected Linden oceans - and +/-40m terraforming.

Most of the action these days goes on at a private estate set up by the WWII gang from old Jessie. It's named Jessie as well (or has that as part of it's name). Not too many originals left behind. I am guessing that some of the militia action is from "out of towners".

Heh, time to lock and load. Going on down to do some target practice when I get home from work later.

I'm sure they would - I had barely even rezzed. Third time in, landed in one of Sling's towers, and called in back-up. He had an UZI and a porn queen with him, so we were good to roam about, and ran into the war correspondent. It was pretty quiet. Maybe Sling will stir something up.
