Slightly longer answer: "No!" *BAN* No, I don't feel bad about it at all. The vast majority of the beggars fall into one or more of these groups: 1) Panhandlers ("professional" beggars; they make their fortunes pretending to be n00bs) 2) Underagers (don't have a credit card, can't beg/borrow/steal parents' card; shouldn't be on the adult grid in the first place) 3) MMOGers (expect SL to be "just another game" and can't understand where the ph4t l3wt drops are or where/how to buy better equipment) 4) Goldbrickers (most of "the rest", who are simply too lazy to either dig their credit card out of their wallet, or put forth the slightest bit of effort to earn money) Then, there are people who legitimately are poor and/or don't have a means for buying L$. Many of them I end up classifying under 4) anyway, since there are ways of obtaining L$ which don't amount to begging, if they would simply *try*. It is pretty easy to spot the ones who legitimately don't have access to obtaining money "normally", since they start off with "How can I get some money?" as opposed to "Gimme some of your money!". |

Offering the beggar some freebie full perm hair/skins/shapes/clothes/shoes whatever they say they are begging money to buy...is another acid test. Most who just want a quick buck off a sucker will move on. Those who did not know of this thing we call freebie will be happy/grateful.
Course there are those who will gripe no matter what...if so, flying away works usually. "Hi, I wanna buy this outfit and I only need another $200L." or "I really want this shape/skin/av. It's only $2000L can you spare it? I don't have any Lindens." "Here's a starter kit for newbies, has some decent shapes/skins/hair. Want it?" *crickets* |

Why can't things like this happen on the Beta Grid? If someone asked me for money there I'd be only too happy to give them L$ 12,000!
I suppose by the very fact that someone's on Beta they've got enough grid-cred to know the money there's worthless except for tests and texture uploads. _____________________

Just press Ctrl+Alt+G (I think, or someone correct me) on the login screen, an extra option appears next to where you type your password. In the panel it says 'Agni' - you need to select 'Aditi' instead, then log in and you're on the Beta Grid.
L$ are only pretend there, they have no RL exchange value and stuff you make on Beta doesn't go into your normal inventory. The Beta Grid is used for testing new features but I don't know if it's being used to test anything in particular at present. _____________________
