Have you tried to log into a different sim?

Maybe changing the DNS server will fix it. The link below explains how to do it, see if that helps at all:

Could also be your internet connection. Obviously you DO have internet connectivity, otherwise you wouldn't be posting here, hehe, but maybe your Internet Service Provider is running slow today. If the packet wasn't received, it might be because it got lost between your house and LL's servers.

Have you tried resetting your modem/router/etc?

I have seen SO many threads in the past and present containing this problem, but there never seems to be a specific fix for it. (waiting for region handshake) Some of the possible causes have been theorized to be a firewall interference problem, a sim server problem, an avatar being 'wedged' (not sure if that is a current term in SL), corrupted install or cache files, a general SL problem which is internal and goes away on its own, or other mysterious reasons. It may just be a recurring bug.

Here are a few things you can try.

1) Uninstall Second Life, and reinstall it. Don't forget to go into the application data folder and delete the Second Life folder in there when uninstalling. The path is something like this application data\yourcomputername\second life

2) Clear cache and relog. Preferences->Network->Clear Cache

3) Try logging in with another avatar/alt to see if it is a firewall problem.

Here are some more threads with the same problem; I hope this gets resolved for you.

It means the login process directed you to a sim, but the sim never responded to you. I guess it could either mean something's wrong with the UDP connection between you and the sim, or the sim didn't respond because it couldn't get in touch with some other system.

Check this out: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1468

It says the wording was fixed to be more meaningful. I can't tell if the wording got un-fixed somehow or if it's a different message.

Anyway, maybe that can help someone decide if it could be a firewall problem.
