waiting for region handshake,,whats this all about

for about 5-6 days now when i try to log in the bar stops at waiting for region handshake, and thats it i cant log in then after that i get a message "Unable to connect. Login packet never recieved by login server. Please try again in a few minutes." ive done all the regular steps re install of sl,,tried a different region etc, nothing works,,ive been in sl for way over a year and had problems but never this 1? anyone else getting this?

I get it from time to time, but usually when LLis having problems internally, and only until they fix it. Or if my ISP has issues.
Though if it's been happening for 5-6 days, I'd hope things smmothed out sometime.
Have you filed a Support Ticket with LL?

The people I've seen who've suddenly gotten this message usually track it down to an issue with either their ISP or their own local router/modem. A change in firewall is also a candidate cause; look for ports being locked down that weren't before. SL uses a variety of ports during login.
It means just what it says: login cannot complete because required packets are not getting thru the network.

Who is your ISP, and how long have you noticed this for? I only ask because tonight my logins are failing at 'Waiiting for region handshake' or at 'Connecting to region' stages. Prior to this I logged in ok for the last week, but once in I had all sorts of problems like being at 10,10,10 in a sim, or my avatar not rezzing for a long long time, or other residents invisible for ages. I put it down to LL server problems but now I think it must be ISP. My ISP is Tiscali and I live in the UK. ALL my problems like this have been in the evenings or over weekends. Daytime is fine. |

Clear your cache, make sure your bandwidth is set at about 3/4. Uninstall and reinstall SL. Reboot your router. Should help. I get this too, it means I can ONLY be online at home otherwise I throttle out every 5 minutes. Tiscali are crap |

Could also be a problem with the particular server of the region you are trying to log into. Try changing your starting location at the login screen so you appear somewhere else.

If we all threaten to leave Tiscali, and post a thread here suggesting all Tiscali users leave them... maybe we get some action, some improvement? I have an email prepared and waiting. |
