Dresden Gallery 123, 128, 26.

Go there.

Saw the article linked from the SL welcome page saying it was an exact replica of Dresden's Old Masters Gallery, "right down to the trash cans." Thought, can they match this hype?

Well, they more than matched it. I'm not much of a builder, but I know enough to walk around their build and their textures in open-mouthed awe at the sheer quality of the work. Beyond beautiful. Beyond gorgeous. Amazing almost describes it. On second thought, I think I'll go for Astounding. Go there just to see what can be done in SL if you are willing to do what it takes to do it RIGHT (the island has four empty sims to supply the prims needed for the one sim that's built). Or go there to tour a major art museum with the photographic-quality likes of Rubens on the walls. Better yet, do both.

This build means that, in principle, almost any structure in RL could be installed WITH REALISM in SL, if someone has the will to do what it takes. These guys proved it. I'm still thinking about the implications.

I went in-world to see it and it really is stunning!

I was mentally counting prims as I was walking and looking around. It really is astonishingly realistic (and beautiful) ...that's what it takes though. Prims prims prims

*prays for a lotto win*

I'd be in heaven if I had that sort of space/allowance to build with

Thanks for the heads up :)

Yes I was there last week -- a very, very well-done place and a reminder of what is possible in SL.

How is that possible? I thought you couldn't share primmage across sims?

My guess is, they purchased 5 sims to have 5 times as much prim allowance, then build on only one. The end result being spectacular.

You can`t.

I`m not sure what the other sims are for but they are void sims (4 low usage, low primmed sims for the price of one). The main sim where everything is built, only uses around 11K prims, each island has a 15K limit.

Thanks for the tip. I have to visit it. Another great sim is Greenies () - feels like flying through movie set. I've never seen anything more amazing and realistic in SL.

But ... but ... how can this be? Sex and gambling are all SL has to offer! I read that right here in these forums!

After reading this I visited the Dresden Gallery and was amazed. A huge amount of painstaking work must have gone into that vast building. It is the most impressive build I have seen so far in SL.

Previously my no.1 build was Damania - an island of futuristic buildings. But Dresden Gallery and Damania are different in one major way. Dresden is a reconstruction of a RL building, whereas Damania is a beautiful creative fantasy.

Make a tour, go see both, one after the other!

Very nicely done! I love seeing RL places well duplicated in-world, an dat one had a serious wow factor, too.

Well I went and saw all three today; Damania, Greenies, and Dresden; I was totally amazed at the gorgeous and creative content of all. Cheers to imagination and creativity!

And btw: for all everyone gripes about Anshe Chung and her millions: notice that she helped fund/create Dresden? Kudos to her for that.

I've visited Dresden...it is an impressive sim for sure. Interesting use of textures and from the pictures I've seen, the likeness is definitely there.

I have to say that one of my favorite sims of all is Intemptesta Nox and the surrounding sims. It is the combination of truly rich beautiful textures along with incredibly skilled building that makes this an amazing place. Be sure to check it out.

Cheers!

Looks like some folks have found other ways to express themselves in SL besides rezzing rotating DVD ads... :)

Just in case of any misunderstanding:
I/moi/me has mentioned an 'Anse F.ing Chung and a 'F.ing RL million' in posts to do with LL publicity. The problem with *the publicity* is that it appeared to emphasise an unrealistic easy riches environment. This was not a gripe about Chung. The gripe was solely about media muppets.

Good luck to Chung and to any business or individual that sponsors rich pro bono content.
Good luck to anybody, in fact, as long as they are not actively being a pain in the ass.

Dresden was absolutely amazing. Sometimes I look at SL and feel like I'm seeing the same thing over and over again - camping chairs, generic beach sim, generic shopping mall, etc. Then something like this absolutely blows me away. It never ceases to amaze me what talented people can do when they set their minds to it.

Speaking of talented people setting their minds to it and achieving the impossible - Wooot!!! Go Trout!! (/me gets down and boogies). Unless someone shows me proof to the contrary, I officially hold the title of first person in the history of Greenies to pull a full barrel roll in a 1/3 scale Red Baron biplane INSIDE the Greenies house, without hitting any walls. Oryx was throwing donuts in a Mercedes on the kitchen linoleum at the time. I was going to strafe her, but I didn't want to get banned for using weapons.

Kudos indeed. Sponsorship is a great idea. If I was the head of Toyota's or Nissan's advertizing department, I'd simply grab an artist like Robbie Dingo (), provide him with an empty sim and tell him to create whatever he wants, as long as a "sponsored by" is mentioned somewhere. Best form of product placement I can think of in SL.

Agreed... there've been threads about this idea before, and I think the general consensus was that if RL corporations want to make an impression here, sponsoring creative builds would be one very good way to do it. Actually I just realized there's a thread about this right now... LOL sorry for derailing. But Coca-Cola would do well to, say, sponsor the Greenies sim. People spent hours in there just looking around, and if they saw a "this sim sponsored by Coca-Cola" somewhere at the telehub, they might be more inclined to walk through their RL grocery store, come to the soda pop isle, and say, "oh, hey, Coke! They sponsored that Greenies sim. That reminds me, I'm out of Coke." etc.

There actually is a 2 Liter Coke Bottle on the kitchen counter in Greenies. Sponsors pay good money for product placement like that in RL. I feel like it's just a matter of respecting your target market. I can't see how a lot of the companies who came into SL and are now having problems did their research. For all the talk about sex and gambling in SL, there is a vibrant community of very talented and artistic people who are doing really amazing things, and a lot of the people like me who haven't got that kind of skill stick around SL to see what those people are doing. If company wanted to market to the artists and the people who enjoy the art, then they would be a lot better off making their corporate presence known throut sponsorships. I'm more likely to go to the Greenies sim than Coca Cola Island, or whatever they might build, and, frankly, I'm more likely to patronize a company that is supporting the stuff I like in SL, instead of just trying to get me to buy their stuff.

Geesh - I should have gone into advertising.

For that matter, RL companies could sponsor SL events more often; a Coca Cola barnstorming competition? Virgin Records live music venues? It could happen a lot more often than it does.

Imagine if you could click the bottle and get a link to a unique printable coupon for Coke products. One per avatar name, of course. Do any of the corporate presences do this? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

And judging from Mari's picture the place is awesome. I can't wait to check it out later.

OMG I've just discovered something to do.... I found a gajillion 16 m ad farm plots, all for sale for around L$300 a piece. How FUN! I just bought about L$25000 worth of ad farms and donated them all to Arbor Project. This is totally awesome stuff.
