Being a good citizen i have spent the necessary hours raising an AR and a detailed support ticket ... Everything is in there (mainly in the attached txt files). Not sure if you can see other ppl's support tickets !! Or the ethics of naming and shaming here.

Speaking of which until SL makes a more sophisticated debit system like Collette suggested I would never have anything but an alt accept a debit permission request and such alt would never have more than the necessary amount of credits to facilitate the specified purpose of that debit permission. It's a sad necessity to deal with the shortcomings of the way things currently are.

Well that didn't take long !! Less than 48 hours from submission of AR and Support Ticket.

7000L$ reclaimed from the thieves and back in my account. The main villain was a well established avatar of quite a few months (Dildiira Dyrssen of French extraction). He was on the grid until yesterday and now is suddenly no longer visible in search. The other major player S0FIA Breda (probaly an alt) has also vanished.

Probable hangers on seem to be still around, but they were only implicated by being picked up by my MystiTool HUD.

Moral of the story .. set all you log options on in preferences, wear an AV scan HUD and these days make a fuss in proper channels.

Pity we dont get much other feed back on the final resolution, just ... "On this occassion we were able to recover the L$ transactions relating to this ticket. The money has been returned to your account."
Also the 'Police Blotter' is too limited to show the action taken. Still from the evidence a good outcome ...

A few weeks ago I purchased 2 items from a dealer, the money was taken the goods never delivered. I sent many IM and note cars tot he seller and got no response. I raised a ticket with LL and they said "we do not get involved in residents disputes" as I was not happy with that I repopened it asking my optains and the only reply before it got closed again was along the lines of "if you think its fraud, report it to the police"

Im "only" 700 down, but its the principle really and I can not imagine the police would be interested in following up an international deal in a virtual world (aka game) worth a couple of euros.

I dropped by the original store again a day or two ago and it has gone.

LL should have a "consumer protection" ombudsman for these types of problems.

as for prims/objects that take your money and run....

well, IF you think of it beforehand.... instead of rezzing the object on the ground, attach it to your hud. that way, it can't get away from you. and you can always find it in your inventory and kill it by right-click/detach.

The crime ripples onwards ... An upset and confused avatar contacted me about his sister - tying to find out what sort of mess she was in. She it seems has just had her account frozen (she is banned i guess !). The unfortunate lady had undertaken to do some quite expensive build work for Mr D. Dryssen (who was presumably splashing out with his loot). I.e. she was in receipt of stolen money and implicated in the theft. (???)

If this story is genuine (and from my cautious discussion with the brother, I believe it is), then how do you protect your self against that ? Or am I just being naive again and something else is going on.

[ All I could do was give him AR and support ticket references and advised him of the scam so that she could raise an appeal. Hope she gets it sorted. ]

Congrats to Op for resolving issues and getting LL's help.

For fraudulent Lindens, it's LL's policy to take the funds and temporarily freeze the account, even when the person did nothing wrong and did not know the money was counterfeit. I didn't realize LL used the same policy for stolen funds and it seems odd (to say the least) that they would freeze the account in this case. I hope the freeze is lifted soon. Please keep us up-to-date in this thread.
You can't. That's what has had people so upset concerning LL's fraudulent funds policy.

It was a good result and no doubt lesson learnt.. however did you know you can loose your account for allowing someone else to use it?
