From: Rhonda Huntress OK, < snip > help. Presumably you only read the original post and not the further explanation of what the OP really wanted help with? Pep (Once again Rhonda demonstrates her ability to make an abject fool of herself as a consequence of precipitate typing ahead of thinking.) PS You are lucky, VVV, that she didn't misinterpret your post completely and wish you a cancerous death.

VirtualVisitor - One handy tip when organizing your Inventory: Open a second Inventory window, from the File menu in Inventory. This way you can drop and drag between the two windows to see exactly where stuff is going. Make SURE that you're hovering over the correct/desired folder, and not the wall/tree/chair in front of your avatar, otherwise you may accidentally dump a file into the world.

What would happen, if you did dump a file into the world? Just curious! Would rather ask than go try it.

I don't think I've ever done it with a clothing piece (shirt, pant, etc), but scripts, animations, and LMs end up hanging out in whatever object I accidentally choose. Attachments float around. Makes for a merry chase around my parcel, trying to find stuff! That's why I always sort Inventory with a huge white prim in front of me; it's the only thing in the window, so will be the only thing I accidentally select.

From: Treasure Ballinger I have a male friend who has been on SL 3 years. He owns 3 full outfits. He buys an outfit, new, every rez date. And wears it, til the next rez date. He has probably 10,000 scripts/textures other things in his inventory, and 3 clothing folders. I find this hilarious and rather endearing. 5.5 years in SL and 2 clothing folders. #1 the newbie avatar I landed in SL wearing #2 the avatar I have been wearing since Christmas 2004

VVV, when you ended up naked, my guess is that you clicked on "Replace outfit" by a mistake. If the folder had just one pair of shoes, you stand there with just the shoes on, and all attachments detached, all clothing stripped off. "Replace outfit" only works if you have a full outfit ready to wear, including hair, clothes, shoes and attachments like an AO. Else, you use "Add to outfit".
You got some good advice here about inventory management. Delete is your friend, get rid of freebies that don't suit your taste. They just clog your inventory. Also, you don't need all the Landmarks, notecards and pictures that come in each folder. Notecards with information is good. 10 notecards with the same info is not necessary. Also, "Thank you for shopping in my store" notecards is just annoying. The advice of making new folders with names that's meaningful is good. SL designers often use strange names on their stuff.
No copy items are often transfer. Buy not always. You had a question in another thread of how to buy gifts for others. Don't buy unless you know the permissions. Modify means you can change it. No modify can sometimes hold a resize script for the prim parts. But unless, it is totally impossible to change.
Copy means you can copy it and have the same thing in several different folders. But you can not give it away. If it is Transfer, you can give it away. But then, if it was Copy too, you could pass out 100 copies of the same item. To prevent that, most things are sold in SL as either copy *or* transfer. Even freebies are often no transfer. Because you could take the freebie and sell it.

And where is Des and his one outfit? /me chuckles A few blogs that may help you out: http://www.second-man.com/http://metavirtual.us/http://mens.shopaholicfeed.com/http://www.sge-sl.com/elric_anatine/ (this is my own -- pardon self-pimping) If I had the time I would happily assist you in world, but sadly do not. If it hasn't been said yet (and it probably has) just drop by the hangout. Even if it's empty, someone might see you on their HUD and stop by to help you. Offhand - try the Make Him Over Hunt if it's still going on. And if not try Belleza, they give out freebies, and try KMadd, and try SF Designs...There are a lot of men's places now that do good work. Oh - and Maschienenwerk. Nice 'urban' theme men's things. Free. Visit these blogs a few times a week, they point to different men's stores and the things they list are free. http://freefindsformen.blogspot.comhttp://ffform.wordpress.comMoral of the story. Don't pay for what you can get for free. Second Life is decentralised and just to avoid boredom if nothing else, many people are happy to give time, services and goods away for nothing. (Don't kill the messenger, folks.)

I seem to remember that clicking "copy and wear" when unpacking items also replaces everything.

From: Pserendipity Daniels make sure you get a good pair of shoes. They are difficult to find, but makes all the difference. I have a pair from Kalnins that I am very happy with, but I have noticed a few more brands since I got them. Do the shoes you wear affect your walk? (probably not!)

From: Rhonda Huntress OK, first off we need a basic idea of where you are headed. What look are you wanting? How do you want to look?
Most men want to look powerful, but that can be either Bruce Lee or Mike Tyson or Donald Trump. This also brings up the point that you can be any race you want. I would avoid the very pale or very dark ends of the scale because of shading issues, you lose a lot of detail on the body. You have mentioned collars and dominance before so you may want a mature Chinese master look or a large, bald black male. I ask because the bulk of SL skins run Caucasian to tanned Mediterranean. If you would like something else we would need to look at different places. There are some very good oriental skins, for example, but we would be traveling outside the english speaking grid so finding what you want becomes increasingly difficult.
Beside race and body size, how do you like to dress? Jeans and a t-shirt? GQ? Gangsta? Cyberpunk? Steampunk? Biker? Banker? Just give us a basic description of what you would find in your avatar's closet if he had one.
And finally ... what times are you online? That way someone who is willing to help would know if they are able to meet up with you.
Any other idea you can give us about how you want to portray yourself will also help. Rhonda, thanks very much for your time and thought. And you have all been very informative, too! I need to re-read all of this, to get a clearer idea of the kinds of clothing and advice you all so kindly offer me.

(probably not!) Mine don't. I know women's shoes sometimes come with animations, but I haven't seen any men's shoes "enhanced" like that. Pep (Mine squeaked for the first week I wore them; then I found out how to turn the sound off. )

From: Scylla Rhiadra (Now if we could just do something about "girls" . . . ) True - I skimmed over that part. But then I'm guilty of saying it once in a while, myself. Sometimes "guys" doesn't apply and there isn't really a slang equivalent. "Gals" makes the speaker sound like Fred Mertz.

When women say it, it's a way of suggesting a sense of community and bonds of friendship, right? When men say it, it just sounds condescending.
