Okay, I admit it, I'm a bit of a tomboy in RL and SL. Most of the animations I've found are sexier and more coquettish that is comfortable for me. Can anyone suggest standing and walking animations that are, how can I describe it, more casual, understated or normal? Something that doesn't have me knocking over furniture with my hips? I tried LostDog DNA, and didn't like it much, especially the thing where I'm suddenly stretching like I'm very bored. I also tried some from Animazoo, and they seem very... animatronic. Got a couple from Abranimations, and I find myself studying my hand like it's the most interesting thing in the world.
Probably, I just have mix and match until I have a set I can live with. But does anyone have a suggestion for a good place to shop?
Thanks.

Reel Movement has sets and single poses with various themes and moods-- there might be something there that'd work for you.

try "The Professional" by Kamilah Hauptmann. I got mine at her shop just off the plaza in Caledon Victoria City.

Nomadda, It isn't just you, many of the female AOs are at best too overdone, more caricatures than anything else. (especially one I've seen called "Sexywalk" which I'd call more "Sillywalk" . It has gotten to the point where when I see someone striking one of those poses I literally burst out laughing.

I don't have much experience with the standing anims, but I absolutely love the Female Walk replacer I found at Enkythings L$1 shop.
It gives me a nice, casual, feminine walk without the wild exaggeration. I don't believe it comes with stands, so I'm probably still using the defaults - but I like how they look, so I'm okay with that.

FORM just added some Female AO stands. Look for the FORM Femme shop, which is right next door to several of their locations.
Reel Movement as mentioned above also has a whole bunch of VERY GOOD animations.
Kinetica is starting to really have quite a few vey good walking and running anims as well as some good sit and stands.
You might also want to look at Torrid's place in Port Seraphine and Reverie in Chartruese.
I've gone the route of just piecing together my AO poses from scratch. Sure I've purchased whole sets, but I ALWAYS wind up performing surgery to extract just the poses that I want. I also tend to get very fussy about my AO anims since I'm one of those weird ones that likes the typing motions when I am typing something out to someone and I also like to have my head turn and follow talkers/movers.
One final note. For someone that likes "patched together" AOs, your best choice is either a ZHAO-2 unit or another one based on the Franimation AO script. I say this because those allow you to assemble entire sets of animations together into a theme. I'm a neko so I have some particular desires based on my "mood" or location at the time and will change entire AO sets to suit. These devices make that soooooo easy to do.
A REALLY final note: Also be wary of animations that are set to be "no copy." While certainly the right of the maker to set whatever privileges they desire, for devices like Animation Overrides that typically are stuffed with a lot of collected anims, it is nearly devastating when SL eats the device due to some bug. It happens. Prepare yourself for that. I only now buy animations that are set "copy" because I HATE having to beg/bother makers to replace my lost items. If you REALLY like one that is "no-copy" ask the maker nicely if they could perhaps sell you a version that is set "no-trans" but "copy." I've actually had a bit of luck in doing that.
Anyhow... NOW for the final note. Ya.
Visit Animation Island. That is where Animation Warehouse is. LOTS of good animations there to choose from.

I'm so pleased others find the usual AO walks completely over the top. I hate tottering around, which is the basic walk, and just want to be able to walk something close to normal. And people who stand going through their stand poses just make me crease up with laughter, they look so silly.

I try others & always go back to my Exotica AO UrbanGroove. It's a complete set of very smooth & natural walk/turn/stands/land/fly. The standing poses do give you quite the dancer's behind.. but I happen to love that too The Urban Grove package is 500L & comes complete with the animator as a bellyring thingy.. which I reattach to a hidden spot, so I can wear my more preferred belly ornaments & some casual jeans & tank tops in the pack. Made by Storma Amarula and sold at her Paw Paw (74, 202, 10 location. Exotica Island is her main location, but I just went and didn't see the Urban Groove set there. Edit to add.. I have not been around much lately.. my PC died & still getting new one set up.. I just realized I loaded her animations & note card in a zhao so I could have a simple clicky on/off hud on screen. But I used to hide it inside my avatar!

Thanks to all of you who posted suggestions. I went shopping and found some walks and stands that work much better for me. Reel Movement and The Professional both had toned down animations more to my taste. Thanks for the recommendations! I doubt I would have ever found them without your help.
And BTW, I hope I didn't offend anyone who uses the other animations I mentioned somewhat dismissively. I realize it's all just a matter of taste and personality.

From: Isablan Neva This is precisely why I am the last avatar in SL without an AO..... I stopped using one a couple of years ago just because they were silly and too much trouble. I have been thinking about using one again but honestly, if one is more focused on building and less on appearance they aren't very important.

That would be me Shoeless, AO-less, and the last avatar in SL to get prim hair

Agreed. I've been very immersed in learning to build since I started a couple of months ago. So much so, in fact, that I've hardly managed to meet anyone because I've spent all my time on my sky platform trying to build a houseboat.
Today, though, I was frustrated with a task that should have been easy, but for some reason wasn't (making a porthole). So, I decided to leave the platform and venture out.
I've really been shy to meet people because, well, I'm shy in rl too. The animation thing is really just trying not to stand out, either as a noob or as a sexy vamp.

i have a "hands in your pocket" standing animation in my store. i'm not so tom-boyish anymore, but i'm definitely not a girlie girl either. i am very modest and casual, as you will see at my store.

I have several AO's and never use any of them, because, like the OP, they make me feel silly. In the end, I made myself a custom group tag - "walks like a n00b" and learnt to love my n00bie walk as a kind of trademark. Way less hassle, way less lag, and the tag lets people know that I am not not using an AO out of ignorance.

I'd rather knock furniture over with my hips than live with that default walk. That said, I did find a couple less swishy ones at Digital Dragon.
