Ok, so I've just built a store and bought a Vendor pack, so now I would like to create a Sign with my Store name, but not sure how this is done, could someone please help me?

Much Thanks!

By "vendor pack" I hope you haven't invested money in what is also known as a "business in a box" which are largely freebies or ripped off items from others that have become freebies.

As for signs - I *think* there are items in world that allow you to create signs but the only way I know how to do it is in a graphics program like Photoshop or Gimp (free online) or even a very simple one will make signs. (Before I learned to use Gimp, I made simple signs and ad copy with a program called Photo Explosion that came with my printer.)

You could take a photo of your work, or some other relevant thing inside Sl and use MS Paint which is found on most PC's to add your text to it.

Since you have no clue how to begin, hire a designer.

Have a look at the 'Advice on Sales' thread
/327/ac/274749/1.html

Several pages are about creating/designing effective logos

I created my first signs in Powerpoint, saved them as graphics and uploaded them as textures.

Anyway, the sign will not make or break the store. Just create something in any graphics program you have. You may change it later whenever you like.

The Advice on Sales thread is GREAT for getting started.

What type of products do you sell?

If you've been creating items it would seem to me that you would easily know how to make a sign. I'm concerned like Czari that you have bought a business in a box.

I have bought into a Franchise...I am in contact with the actual Designer/Owner and the Franchise Group for support with sales. I just wanted to physically create my own sign with my Store Name.

Download gimp, it's free. Then you can make your own signs and the experience will be good for you long term.

I just downloaded Gimp and am looking forward to checking it out. I will update if and when I have successfully created something worth sharing...lol.

Thanks again!

Just about any graphics or photo editor will work fine. I use Paint Shop Pro and GIMP. (^_^)

Once you're done, save it as a 512x512 tga or png file and upload it to SL for a L$10 fee. Apply the texture to a cube and size it to look right. And, you're good to go. (^_^)y

To add: Don't upload everything at x512. You will find sometimes that x 256 is plenty for signs without a lot of detail. And they are seen quicker by customers.
You can also put two signs on the one texture at 256x512 each. Half and half of a 512. Save 10L upload there.
Spend a few pennies practicing and uploading and you will benefit greatly.

Danica, it may take you awhile to learn how to use Gimp, or another graphics editing program. Meanwhile, you can make a basic sign graphic using this website. I often use it for making buttons, but there isn't any reason it can't be used to make a basic sign.

Thanks for that tip, ArchTx! Sometimes I just want to do some "quick and dirty" text without trying out fonts and effects in Gimp. That tool looks perfect. :)

AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!

Please for Gawd's sake, HIRE A DESIGNER!

When I shop, I judge the quality of the product based partly on the product shots, logos or signs. If a builder can't produce a professional looking collateral there's little chance that they'll produce a quality product.

That may be unfair, but first impressions matter and you only have a few seconds to make that impression.

So please, put down the PowerPoint and back away from it slowly. That thing's likely to go off and hurt somebody... maybe even you.
