Have you ever done a complete maekover of yourself after being a resident for some time? If so did you have trouble identifying with the new you and did you have a lot of trouble re-adjusting the fit of your wardrobe and accessories?

I've never been happy with my avatar in spite of 1 year of tweaking. I'm thinking of starting over with a new skin and new shape. I tried to create an idealized version of my real self. I did not succeed.

I wouldn't throw the old skin and shape out of course.

I've made adjustments to my avi all along, but never a sudden transformation. I have an idea of what Nim is supposed to look like, and it just feels odd to think of her as something radically different. That said, I have a couple of alts. Each of them also has a basically consistant look, but all are different from one another so I guess that is how I play with different styles.

If you are ready for a change though, I say go for it and have fun. :)

your friends will have a much harder time adjusting than you will. I did not get a non-newbie skin for a long time and my friends told me they wish I had not waited so long because they got used to me looking like a noob.

I have never changed skins since the day I put on my current one and decided that it was 'me'. I have done a few very minor tweaks to my shape, but not much. At this point, I just don't think I could handle a major change. I did that with another account many many months back and I am still trying to get used to the way she looks.

Upgrading from a newbie skin is always a good thing. :p

This particular friend found a way to insult me at every turn, including saying I waited too long to get a skin and that I was "lazy with the sliders". For some reason, she is no longer on my friends list.

Well, Weston, you clearly do not have a female alt. If you did, you would realize that many women tend to stick with roughly the same look over time because our inventories kind of get built around a basic shape, because you have to adjust all your flexi skirts, belts etc. if you change your shape a whole lot!!

Also, if you wear the same skin a lot ... Nika is almost always pale ... you tend to end up with a lot of hair and outfits that look good with your skin tone.

I think, if I wanted a major makeover, it would be less trouble just to get an alt, and let everyone know that she's me.

when i made an alt for my oversized inventory..i also took the chance to experiment with other looks. Id been told by a few modelling agencies my look wasnt unique enough etc..soooo...i had a lotta fun trying out skins/shapes,haircolours...but ultimately, it just didnt feel right not looking like *me*, even as an alt lol.

The different shapes were an eyeopener...i actually tried taller ones, with less boobage- and found i *fitted* pose balls better and my clothes didnt need so much adjustment

It was around the one year mark...so maybe its a bit like a *mid life* crisis in SL terms lol

Anyhow, go for it! Experiment...you can always revert if youre not keen :)

I change often, my friends have gotten used to it

my avatar is like a barbie doll to me, I can dress her up change her hair, even her skin in this case

if I get tired of playing with barbie, I can toss her aside and grab the other toys (avatars in my inventory)
anything from a cat, dog, robot, to a weird looking plant :)

So as for changing the way you look, I say go for it, after all, it is second life!!

I change my look (clothing style) all the time. But when it comes to shape and skin, I tend not to mess.
I love my freckles, and have found no other skins which are similar enough for me to change, though I do have a couple I have recently started wearing more. I have skins especially for certain avvies (fairy/demon etc), bu ti do stick with what I like mostly.
As for shape, I made my own. I did a major overhaul of my shape a couple of months ago and I love my new look. It did feel wierd for a bit and was tough to get used to, and Nika is so right! All of my skirts and attatchments need changing lol. I even have one which I just cant wear...I can't get it right lol.

If you are ready for a change go for it! It may feel a bit wierd for a bit trying to relate to the new 'you' but I'm sure you will get used to it :)

During a lull around Christmastime, Max underwent an extreme body makeover (messed around with the sliders for what felt like days) then got a skin to suit.

Net result - a very, very different look, and one I am entirely happy with for the first time in nearly 2 years.

It stays.

I just altered my avie after 4 yrs of looking the same! Made her slightly taller, curvier, and altered her face a bit. No one noticed lol but I think she looks better now.

In a lull over Christmas time, Max was subjected to a complete face and body reconstruction (hours and hours with the sliders), fitted with new skin and eyes to suit and finally, finally, I am entirely happy with the way he looks.

He is Max v4, and that's how he's going to stay.

I must be kind of odd, but I change my appearance constantly. Not my shape, just my skin. I wear so many different ones so often, that I've even started to wonder what Sae actually looks like lol. Maybe skin makers need to stop being so talented and releasing amazing skin so I could decide what I look like lol.

As for a makeover, they are fun and completely reversable, so go for it.
I think the greatest thing about changing your base look is that you can demo skin and now days many shapes as well. This makes it simple to just go demo collecting all day, take them all home, try them on in lots of combinations, and decide quietly and privately what you want to buy without all the lag and issues. :)

I help people with makeovers sometimes.

I've also done a complete makeover on myself.

I guess the important thing is to get a makeover that comes close to how you really want to appear in your mind's eye. IF you do that it won't seem weird to you to have made the change.

That's precisely it. You wouldn't believe the hours spent on the nose. I should open Max's Rhinoplasty.

Every time I create a new shape or add new skins, I find I need "just the right accessories" and end up buying a new wardwrobe for the look. As I make shapes this means a lot of folders just dedicated to a new shape, with the look that fits.

Sometimes its easier just staying in a bikini... but even then some are not right for a look.

Oh well, I do have a specific "Alice" look that I revert to but even then I still tweak.

I settled on my shape and skins a year ago, and haven't changed them since, save for a few very small tweaks to my shape

I've had the same size and shape pretty much since i started. Although I have been through a few skins and haircuts.

With regards to fitting better in animations I simply bullied my boyfriend into changing his size to fit me - this seems to me a far simpler approach

I've done one major change to my avatar about two years ago (going from adult to child avvies) and have tweaked a bit since then, changing the hair several times (but the pigtails are what I am most often seen in, an the bangs on that hair are used with everything!), getting a skin (Robin Sojourner made it for me, replacing my basic skin I wore for more than half of my first year), new eyes (I'm on my fourth version now, this one being based directly on my RL ones), and some slight tweaks to my shape over time (I'm never quite happy with the limitations of the avatar mesh). If anything, these refinements made me identify more with the avvie, not less.

Well it's not me that's opposed to making over myself entirely. It's my partner. I have been wearing the same silly newbie skin since August of 07....dunno, it was a skin in the box, think it was Stacy...I have recreated my shape though, because Stacy was too totally anorexic. The shape changed the skin a bit and it looks a little different. I've bought skins, nice ones but here's the problem...Stacy has nice boobs. Really nice boobs. I'm sick of her face. I've found faces that partner likes but the boobs just don't compare. LMAO Somebody find me a skin that we both like with nice boobs!

Daily. LOL

I make shapes and I create a lot of characters for photo series so I am always morphing my avatar's look. I have done a few make overs for male friends and I love the challenge of creating a new unique look. I am never a 'male' in world....always female cause I just can't cross the line there LOL But I enjoy the challange of creating male looks. I just recently did my fiance and dam if the avatar doesn't look just like him!! (too bad he's over seas and doesn't actually do SL lol)

Anyway.....no problem identifying with myself.....I am always me, sitting here, typing and goofing off on the computer. What my avatar looks like has absolutely no bearing on my sense of self......I guess because I just don't immerse that much into cyber reality. I enjoy it....but what I enjoy is the creative expression and the never ending possibilities, which includes the look of my avatar.

I change my looks daily. Id do it in RL too if it were possible.
Some changes are drastic, complete new shape and skin, sometimes its just an outfit and hair change.
I can go from leathers with a mohican to white skin goth to girl next door to glam barbie (thats usually if Im in a piss taking mood).
If I find my 'friends' have more attatchment to how my avatar looks than what I have to say then they get changed too.

It took me several months to get a good skin. It was just such a pricey item and I thought, do I really need this? I thought I did a decent job with my looks but when I finally went skin shopping I was blown away by how much better I looked I almost cried. The man, however, assured me that I didn't need to get a new skin but he appreciates it too! I make little adjustments to my shape, but nothing major. I spent so much time on it early on, why do that again when I'm largely happy with it?
