I have a short questionnare for anyone willing to fill it out for me. I need to find out a few things behind your motivation for playing the game. This is for a school project Here's the questions: 1. Why do you play this game? 2. What do you like about it most? 3. What do you dislike about it? 4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? 5. What one feature would you like to remove? 6. Is cheating an issue in this game? 6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? 7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game? 8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you? 9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers? 10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)? 11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)? 12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)? 13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself? Thanks in advance to anyone answering these and helping me out

I suggest you read up on Second Life. A lot of your questions don't quite fit because SL is not a game in the sense of having strict rules, a clear goal, win and lose states, etc.

Here's the questions: 1. Why do you play this game? As a break while Im waiting for skill training/taking time off from Eve Online, this game allows me to chill out, and socialize or play games, pvp, concerts, building which is a game in and of itself. 2. What do you like about it most? live music 3. What do you dislike about it? bugs, lag, etc 4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? custom xml ui skinning 5. What one feature would you like to remove? memory leaks 6. Is cheating an issue in this game? yes 6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? copybots/dupe hacks/land sniping bots 7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game? goons 8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you? out of memory crashes even with 4g ram 9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers? none in particular 10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)? that is how all mmorpg's work, always working to advance your char, from levels, or points, items, money, land, more friends, all mmorpg's are the same at the core, it's all a grind to further your character by any of those ways or others I may not have mentioned. 11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)? PvP is always fun 12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)? lotta fun to see new places, and possibly get inspiration on a new creation of your own 13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself? explorer atm and your right, best thing to remember, its just a game, and don't take things too serious, which is good advice for all games

1. I don't play games. (^_^) 2. I like the fact that SL ain't a game. (^_^) 3. I don't like that so many people confuse SL for a game. (^_^) 4. I would change all games into creative social networks so LL would have some competition and the service would be better. (^_^) 5. Whatever part confuses people into thinking SL is a game. (^_^) 6a. Partners cheat on each other all the time. (^_^) 6b. It's called "having an alt on the side". (^_^) 7. Yeah... Havoc disrupts things a lot. (^_^) 8. No lag on me. (^_^)y 9. Anyone who's not an epic busy creator or a washed up griefer is pretty much a socializer... I kinda know all three and like them all the same. (^_^) 10. I think they're delusional lunatics that need to get back to shooting grammas on GTA. (^_^) 11. I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!!! (>_< 12. Explorers...Creators... People that get my full respect, particularly if their efforts turn out to be a thing of beauty. (^_^) 13. Neko-Loli-Jailbait... You be the judge. (^_^)y

1. Why do you play this game? It has lots of sleazy anonymous virtual sex. 2. What do you like about it most? I'll take sleazy anonymous virtual sex for $500, Alex. 3. What do you dislike about it? Sleazy anonymous virtual sex with people who can't write. 4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? A spell checker and thesaurus. 5. What one feature would you like to remove? The one that lets people spam friend and TP and vampire bite boxes before they say "hi" FTW. That one can die in a fire. 6. Is cheating an issue in this game? YES! Who would I have sleazy anonymous virtual sex with if there wasn't cheating? 6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? If you have to ask um 7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game? When my sleazy anonymous virtual sex partners get caught with me. 8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you? Try to get picked up when you are a cloud or bald! 9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers? We need more of them! 10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)? They won't get far with advances like 'age/sex/location?' 11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)? I don't do the dungeon scene. 12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. 13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself? I think I am a sleazy anonymous virtual Socializer?

1. Why do you play this game? I have a lot of friends here and it's fun. 2. What do you like about it most? The absolute freeform nature of it. It's like life. 3. What do you dislike about it? Helping people with really arcane ways of doing things, such as how to 'deed objects to a group' 4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? I'd like a lot more squishability in the environment - be able to make outer space, planets, dig insanely deep holes, make space-time wormholes... be able to sail far across the grid on a tiny ship... 5. What one feature would you like to remove? Teleporting. Yep, serious. Flying too, without a vehicle. 6. Is cheating an issue in this game? Yeah. 6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? Theft of things that people have made, also land fraud and investment scams. Ick. 7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game? Failure of the service itself. Sometimes a lot of stuff just plain stops working for a little while. 8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you? It's not a huge part of my life, as I know how to mitigate most forms of it. 9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers? People just like everybody else. 10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)? People just like everybody else. 11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)? Personally I find these guys fun, in a juvenile sort of way. But then I can get on a group channel and say 'Griiiiieeeferrrrr!!!!' and 40 people will show up, locked and loaded. 12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)? People just like everybody else. 13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself? Explorer, mostly, with a dash of socialiser.

From: Desmond Shang I'd like a lot more squishability in the environment - be able to make outer space, planets, dig insanely deep holes, make space-time wormholes... be able to sail far across the grid on a tiny ship... Totally. But my guess is by the time LL figures out all that....real quantum foam wormhole technology will exist in RL.

1. Why do you play this game?
I don't play it because its not a game (in my opinion... settle down, you lot at the back) I participate in second life because I enjoy the challenges and the creativity and the interaction between people in a hugely diverse group.
2. What do you like about it most?
Interaction with others and being creative, and seeing the creativity of others.
3. What do you dislike about it?
Not much
4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could?
I would like to be able to move my avatar more spontaneously, like Wii or VR suits.
5. What one feature would you like to remove?
Timezones
6. Is cheating an issue in this game?
Yes, but not like other 'Games'.
6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating?
Stealing other people's ideas, Bots, coercive adfarming, and heartbreakers.
7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game?
The lack of sufficient technology to handle what we want it to do...yet
8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you?
It slows me down and makes me spend money upgrading my PC
9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers?
I am glad to meet them and socialise with them
10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)?
I admire their drive and application to the task and wish I had more myself of those traits.
11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)?
I feel sorry for them because they just don't get it.
12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)?
I think some of them are fantastic like Nicholaz Beresford...
13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself?
Socialiser and would-be achiever.

From: Glome Northmead 1. Why do you play this game?
Other people have kept saying that it's not a game so I guess I'll carry on To learn about it and see how it goes, and because I have people here I'm friends with and care about. From: someone 2. What do you like about it most?
The community - or at least the good parts of it. From: someone 3. What do you dislike about it? The eventual "emptiness" of the virtual experience - SL trades off so much in pursuit of complete freedom, that there is nothing left for the freedom to attain. From: someone 4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? Assuming that I'm not allowed to mention reliability, or new script commands - some amount of "levelling". That might seem a bit odd, since I don't really like levelling games, but levelling is the only way anyone's come up with to create a virtual experience where not everyone is the same, yet anyone can still eventually achieve anything they want. If someone came up with a better one feel free to add that instead. Oh, and the creative things - like building, designing, scripting, etc - shouldn't require levellling. From: someone 5. What one feature would you like to remove? Am I allowed "Lag?" From: someone 6. Is cheating an issue in this game?
Yes. From: someone 6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? Is this a factual question or an opinon one? The ones that bother me most are copybotting, unecological scripting, and unviable augmented businesses. But the most common are low-level fraud and impersonation. From: someone 7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game?
Lag. From: someone 8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you?
I've tried to run a Show and Tell event at SL5B. The stage was the next sim from the central stage and there was a live music performer there at the time. That was pretty much all my lag issues condensed into one. From: someone 9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers?
They're the only ones who can become entirely "immersed" in SL. From: someone 10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)?
I think they wind up very frustrated in SL - you can improve your real skills in SL, it's true, but SL doesn't have a reward system like most other games have, and the eventual rewards tend to be unsatisfying, or entirely outside the virtual world. (If you become the best builder in the world, the best you get is an RL job building, which is pretty good but maybe not want you were hoping for.) From: someone 11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)?
I like wearing "cute" avs around them and seeing how they react when their weapons don't work. Then I kick them. By the way, if you're basing this on the Richard Bartle essays, he didn't consider Killers and Griefers the same, at all. From: someone 12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)?
They make blogs. And wikis. They're both fun and you should read them! From: someone 13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself?
A rather strange definition of Explorer mixed with a rather strange definition of Socializer mixed with a possibly incorrect definition of Achiever.

Honestly, I was a crazy sims online player. Then I played there.com. A rl friend who played those games with me suggested SL. I tried it a few days, left, and a few weeks later came back and got hooked. I was taken in by the freedom, fun, people, and yea the idea of sex in a game seemed really really appealing for the first few months. Started dealing land in an attempt to support my SL playing and shopping habit that was getting way out of hand and I really couldn't afford to keep paying for. I loved the thrill of finding deals and making a little profit.
So 3 days ago was my third SL b-day and I'm still here. Since this all started, SL has given me amazing friends, sl has gotten me RL work, and even played a role in helping meet my long time idol Trent Reznor this weekend. I just fell in love with this game, the creativity it allowed me, and the fact that anyone, even someone like me with no college education and a mother of three could get ahead and have just as much room to succeed as anyone else. So even though I bitch a lot, I have a passion for this game and the people I have come to love here.

1. Why do you play this game? It entertains me
2. What do you like about it most? It entertains me and allows me to do things I can't do in RL. I enjoy the fantasy and whimsical side of it.
3. What do you dislike about it? People who are judgemental and spend more time worrying about how others spend their time in world as opposed to just doing their own thing. Also the increasing encroachment of Real Life into the game, by way of Corporations and other influences.
4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could? The ability to travel anywhere in a vehicle or aircraft undisturbed. To circumnavigate the entire Grid. Also the ability to keep your online status totally hidden
5. What one feature would you like to remove? The CallingCard/Friends List system.
6. Is cheating an issue in this game? Humans play it, and Human have been known to cheat
6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating? Just about any form of scam and swindle can probably be found.
7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game? LL's poor business and implementation policies.
8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you? Slow movement and objects appearing. Some is due to hardware limitations on my end, but I try to do what I can to counter it
9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers? I have no particular opinion
10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)? No particular opinion
11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)? They amuse me at times, otherwise I ignore them
12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)? No particular opinion
13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself?
I like to explore and socialize a bit, and also Roleplay. I don't create, run a business or own land. I consider myself more a tourist in SL as opposed to a resident.

Interesting.
With so much going on in the world, schools are more interested in sl then in really important matters? Is this their agenda nowadays? I think not.
But then who cares why anyone plays or doesn't play this or any other game.
It's always the same tiresome BS surveys.

1. Why do you play this game?
I love the internet and chatting, seeing 1st hand what people create and it's one medium that I can, in a customizable avatar/persona/area. And I have the time to.
2. What do you like about it most?
Being able to meet so many different kinds of peoples, expressing themselves in their creativity or w/ their own selves, but also my alone time.
3. What do you dislike about it?
The memory leak! LL not always explaining their method to their madness. Their inadequate resources for their userbase. Peoples' tides on issues, bitchery. Bad neighbors. Fraud.
4. What one feature would you add to the game if you could?
Being seen online or not and it worked! If you Muted a person, it meant you muted ALL their accounts. I like the spell checker in chat idea, but as an option, better land transforming tools; Mainland. More large general areas, besides Gov Linden land or WAs.
5. What one feature would you like to remove?
Wartoyz that only worked in areas, sims they are meant to be used ...really.
6. Is cheating an issue in this game?
Yes to some people.
6b. If so, what are the most common forms of cheating?
Cheating is basically not being honest w/ SL and RL interests.
7. What causes the most havoc or disruption of gameplay within the game?
LL inability to keep up w/ it's userbase and players realistic wants.
8. What sort of issues have you experienced with lag, and how has it effected you?
Only in high traffic areas, LL having maintenance issues, peoples running bad scripts.
9. What are your views on players that could be considered Socializers?
I am a socializer, half my friends are creators or socializers. I love to communicate w/ artists, geeks and general chatters.
10. What are your views on players that could be considered Achievers (always trying to advance their character)?
I admire the Achievers, like is another story in some cases.
11. What are your views on players that could be considered Killers or Griefers (people just out to gain pleasure from other peoples pain)?
They are annoying and I don't enjoy their vicious cycle company.
12. What are your views on players that could be considered Explorers (people trying to understand the inner workings and details of the game)?
Love 'em!
13. What type of player, of the 4 mentioned above, would you consider yourself? socializer, slacker creator, mini achiever, explorer.
