I'll protest in my own way... I'll buy everything even remotely gay that they've got available. That'll show em, right?

That's awesome. ETA: And in that list is also a song by I Fight Dragons, who I'm now declaring the most awesome band in all of existence. _____________________

And as far as Ashon; I think of him as kind of the verbal equivalent to a lolcat. For example, from the other day: ![]() |

To play devil's advocate for a moment. I imagine that a Christian Fundamentalist could contend that homosexuality is harmful as it propagates immorality and sexual promiscuity. Seems that's a sort of like what actually happened. Via http://ha.ckers.org/blog/20090416/amazonfail-and-anti-automation/ A guy named weev was upset that Amazon was pulling the adult content off the site because they were keeping gay and lesbian content. So he found himself a CAPTCHA breaking crew (presumably from my list since he mentioned it) and paid them to create a ton of accounts. Then he used those account to mark all the homosexual materials as offensive content. It took a while for Amazon to recover. You can find a lot of references to the event on Twitter. More info about the actual methodology here: http://community.livejournal.com/brutal_honesty/3168992.html . |

Except that the "method" is absolute rubbish as Amazon never had a "report inappropriate content" link for their own books.

To play devil's advocate for a moment. I imagine that a Christian Fundamentalist could contend that homosexuality is harmful as it propagates immorality and sexual promiscuity. In their eyes, the mere fact that you can openly display such behavior is poison to their children. For some, their distaste for such behavior may very well be as passionate as your distaste for the neo-nazis. As I said, devil's advocate... but consider things from their point of view. It's not so drastically different. Neo-Nazis are a hateful group that are obviously intolerant and not in the same league as gays. Let me play devil's advocate and have you imagine a racist person that teaches their kids to hate blacks and Hispanics and Muslims. They would be offended by books about those groups, and horrified at any mixed marriages between them. So should Amazon cater to that? Bottom line is if your religion says something is bad, that is your religion, not everyone else's. It is not okay to demonize a group of people when they are doing nothing to harm you. If you have faulty perception and THINK that a book about gays on Amazon is going to hurt your kids, then you're a moron. You can teach their kids that crap, but don't push it on us. (I am not directing this at you, Scott, as I know you said you're playing devil's advocate.) I find the religious fundamentalism like this to be offensive, but I'm not going to campaign to have their books removed from shelves, virtual or otherwise. Again, their view is a view of intolerance, and for you to equate it with that of neo-nazis is like comparing apples and oranges. Gays are not hurting their children, end of story. |

i don't think any group is harmless..they all have their bad people in them..
take Nazi's for instance...Nazi's had Hitler...he was a bad person..but Hitler was gay.. not all gay people are Nazi's and not all Nazi's are gay.. the fact is there are gay people in every group just as there are Heterosexual..i believe there is even a gay bishop.. sexual lifestyles should not be used to judge if someone is a good or bad person.. it has nothing to do with it really.. the sooner the world can get past labeling every single thing is when we clear out the clutter and start getting a better picture of where the real trouble is.. until then we will be nothing but a bunch of finger pointers blaming everyone else for our bad lives..while the real game players sit back laughing at us as they keep tossing new labels for us to hate or stand behind..in turn adding another group of people to back or hate until finally the day comes when there is nothing left but a bunch of haters standing around looking at each other.. it is becoming nothing but directories and sub directories of label's when are we going to realize that a divided people are easier to control for the game players than a united people?? as far as Amazon goes... any publicity is good publicity..i don't think Amazon would have said a thing if they didn't want to attract a bunch of people... _____________________

I always thought that he looked pretty miserable in those old news reels.
