obviously in the context of this thread bot=landbot.
i dont think you will find one for free, and if you did its likely outdated. even the one being sold for 38K is a bit dodgy as he makes no offer to keep it updated.
Unless you know how to update it or the seller offers them, don't buy it or the next SL update is likely to put it out of commission.

Does anyone have sources for a landbot they're willing to share? I snarfed the latest libSecondLife test client and it's nice and all, but I'd rather not have to reinvent a dead-horse-wheel if possible.

As a public service, I'll try running one whose purpose is to save people who accidentally do the $1 sale thing. If it works, someone else can do it, too. Everyone can do it. It'll be the Colt Special of land speculation, the digital equalizer.

Every bot runner out there, including me, already returns mistakes like the L$1 sales with one notable exception.

So Merlin and Celene are in fact one in the same? No one was sure, they just both keep the 1L errors. And as they bots become more readily available, do You feel everyone who gets one will be as "ethical" as You? I also think knowing that most bots give back doesn't help make the people who have lost large sums of land feel much better.

No, there's not. You have to not set it for L$1 to "anyone". Once land is up for sale, it's up for grabs. No way to stop a bot from taking it.

Can you find a list of known landbots and ban them from your land? Would that in anyway prevent them from ever buying it?

What about land insurance? Would that be a good idea ? In case of a land bot mistake?

This may be a stupid question but as soon as a dogooder bot buys up a land mistake dont you have to start paying the tier on the land if you own the bot? How long do you own land for before you have to pay its tier ? What if the previous owner takes a while to respond? Being a dogooder bot may become expensive?

Banning and other methods that prevent people from entering your land are completely ineffective. Remember you don't have to be standing on a parcel, or even anywhere near it to buy it.

I don't know that I'd say it's clear Merlin and Celene are the same person. Celene's bot is a lot more sophisticated. They could be the same though, one vanished about the same time the other appeared.

Also, Sarah, if you think that people will be less generous than the current bot crew why are such a huge fan of giving free bots to everyone?

Because in theory, with so many running it could make them not worth the effort. Who knows.

People camp so they can earn 10 cents an hour. How "not worth it" would it need to be before no-one would be willing to give it a try? In my case I know I'd run the bots for weeks maybe months even if I got nothing because there's almost no cost to me.

*edit: Reminds me of that quote: No one comes here anymore, its too crowded. In your case: No one runs bots anymore, there's too many of them.

Ok than if anything, anyone having access to them would level the playing field again.

No you can't ban bots. They can buy land without having to land on the parcel. They just need to be in the same sim.

I doubt anyone who would be experienced enough to understand land insurance would make the "set to anyone for $L1" mistake. It's the innocent folks who don't know much about landbots at all who make the mistake generally. And the experts who make the same mistake because they are rushing one day would probably think they didn't need it.

Yes a dogooder bot would run into tier issues. Unless other dogooders donated tier, it's an expensive yet lovely idea.

Oh, one more thing: I love Sarah Nerd and think she is the biggest-hearted and most thoughtful and trustworthy avatar in SL. Kudos to her for trying to come to victims' defense. She is a true champion of the little guy and always tries to help out a newbie, here and inworld. I would list the kind things she has done for me and others, but I don't have 10 hours.

It may end up a contest to see who can make the fastest, most lethal land bot. The bot you buy at the store could be obsolete quickly. Or perhaps there are limits with what you can do with land bots, then it would be a level playing field. I wonder though how having hundreds of bots searching for land constantly is going to impact matters from LL's prospective.

I am not quite sure why anyone would ever set the land for sale for L$1. Is it possible to do it this way? Set it for a normal price then just pay the buyer the money then it will be returned to you when they buy it if you are really meaning to sell if for L$1. Granted not everyone has the money to do that, but if they did it would help stop the bot theft of land in sl. Yes you have to trust them, but if you are selling them the land for L$1 I would only assume that you do.

Now please bash me as she bounces off the wall.
