What is SL to you?

I know what I use SL for. I use it for entertainment, love, and business.. essentially literally a second life.

But I'm wondering what the majority of people use it for. People complain that the wolrd is overrun with sex fiends and stupid newbs with theitr dicks out but... is sex the main draw of SL, or what?

I'm truly curious

It's entertainment to me. Pure and simple. Entertainment only. I'm not here to find love, I've found that already. I'm not here for business, although I do own a small store with resell items and my own clothes creations, but that's the creative part of the entertainment. In no way do I expect to actually make any substantial amount of money from that. I'm not even good enough with my creations to consider competing with the creators who actually do make money from SL. The sex.....well, that's something that my RL husband and I explore on SL, but it's foreplay more than anything, and a lot of fun too. But I wouldn't even conceive of pixel sex with a stranger I met on SL. Just not my thing. Nope, it's entertainment. Not necessarily a game, but I do "play" SL, because the time I spend on there is playtime.

My company plans to use SL as a training and knowledge sharing tool. If I take the opportunity and demostrate SL skills then I could be chosen to develop training materials and other content for SL. (and get paid for it)

A non-profit org I built for is using SL as a world-wide meeting place, since they needed to have meetings for something to work right legally. So, they came to SL, had me build their place, and will be holding their first meeting next week ^_^

I ticked "Other" - SL to me is an opportunity to learn new things and to be creative in many different ways.

I chose entertainment and community as those are primarily what I get out of SL. I suppose I could have checked business as I do have a few houses rented out but that really just gives me L$ to spend. My land comes out of my entertainment budget and is not supported by in-world business at all.

You missed a place to be creative and learn.
Secondly it gives me new opportunities for doing things that I can't in rl due to
being disabled.

Actually, that would have been a nice choice to have, and I probably would have checked it had it been there.

Instead, I checked cyber-sex, not because it's the thing that I want to do the most, but because of all the things I've done on the list, cyber-sex is actually the one thing I have regretted the least. The business and shopping related things- what a big disappointment. For over a week, I've been so upset about losing a few hundred USD in "buying land" and related rip-offs, that I can't stand to see the Second Life icon on my desktop and I removed it. And I really don't know what upsets me more, the loss of money, or the feeling that I was just too stupid to avoid being ripped off.

If I finally bring myself back to playing Second Life again, building and creating things for others to see or use seems to be the most worthwhile reason to play with Second Life again.

Entertainment, but only because that's the closest to a multiple-choice response.

I've had SLex. Enjoyed it, a lot. Still do it, though not as much as when I first got here.

I've made many new friends, some of them very close and intimate.

I've found a whole community of friends, most especially in these forums.

I've even got me a nifty Pie Thrower.

So...pretty much all of the above.

I chose entertainment and community. When I first came to SL, I hadn't read up on it and thought it was a game, (with a goal and everything - Save the Kingdom! LOL). I didn't think there would be so much 'chatting' or else I wouldn't have downloaded it. Now, I stay _because_ of the 'chatting' and the community.

as per claimed by the front page that could be performed here was the only draw to come here for me in the first place. The friends have a been a wonderful added unexpected bonus. Due to the issues, I have found it not as useful for business as building friendships as one waits for issues to be resolved to do some business.
