From: Ricardo Harris AR's are terribly overrated. While it's annoying to get invitations to groups and/or friends list from total strangers, simply decline and go on about your business.
Some people use AR's for just about any little thing. Don't they know by now it's just a waste of time. I know I do. I agree. Just as I find a Forum ignore button uneccesary, most things I've encountered anyway, are just ignorable without ARing. I'd save AR's for true harrasment or serious violations. I really don't want to be a hall monitor.

From: Travis Lambert -Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? That's my answer. They use to really piss me off, but when I finally gave it some thought I realized that clicking the decline button is simple enough. 1 second clicking decline compared to longer time getting pissed off and taking further action seems like the best answer to me.

Unfortunately I get rather a lot of these and pretty sure they're based on group membership, because they're usually from vaguely music-related groups, or musicians' fan groups. If I know or have met the person who sent the invite or they are actually in the same location as me, I usually shoot them a quick IM to explain. If I don't, I simply decline. Not worth the time or effort to do more.

I have noticed an increase too. When I log on have to go through a pile of stuff I'm not interested in, decline, decline, decline. Haven't gone as far as ARing them.

Today I got a landmark of a dude who wants to sell his land, through one of the groups I am in he must have gotten my name. I sent him an unfriendly IM and muted him as a reward though. By the way do not forget to join the Sampireun Design group, enrollment is free and you get a nice free double door closet as a gift Wanted to spam the Forum Cartel group but don't want to get booted from there Greetings, Marcel

Which is precisely the attitude that results in ARs being useless because they never get filed for anything like this. Don't just go about your business, take the twenty bloody seconds that it requires to file an AR, otherwise nothing will ever happen. Honestly, there are some lazy so-and-sos on the grid these days.

Maybe there's a way for the group to filter money off you, I have been in some groups that actually paid me small amounts per month like $4L depending on the groups income, and I been in some that are the reverse, perhaps someone is making money monthly this way from members

Me As Well

Dearly Darlings,
Including the please "join our group." I'e also been getting spam from RL cosmetic companies. One French company angered me so much I called their office in Paris and told them I'd never use their products as I use a Hungarian Organic line that would never THINK of sending me junk mail during my playtime here...further if it did not cease and desist I'd AR them for harrassment. The thing that stumps me is I do use many beauty products as I'm older and hate looking old...who's getting my data and sending it to companies?
You all have a lovely evening!
Ever Yours,
Mrs. Showdog Tiger

AFAIK it's the only current form of group liabilities.

Hmm doesn't it still work with group deeded objects share money paid to them by the group, I imagine if it were an object that paid out the reverse could still happen, dividing the losses between members, unless the group owner restricts group liability

i recieve these quite often, and yes, also on some of my alts lately.
what i have noticed though is that a few seem to be there solely for the purpose of gleaning from you your join fee... as some are exorbitantly high (a few have been $10K or more) yet provided no good reason.
Of course I hit 'decline'.
But can you imagine the poor noob who didn't see the fee to join and just blindly hit join? Perhaps deserved... but still - it sucks that people are using this as another way to gain L$.

From: Sue Saintlouis I just refuse them, as I don't think it's worth my time to talk to them or AR them. That's what the email spammers told us to do a decade ago when spam was just an annoyance. Just hit delete. I now get several spams per second 24/7. It'd be a full-time job for half a dozen people to read my email. I had to take drastic action (a whitelist), which makes email less useful to me. Spammers will render all SL communications channels useless. Count on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if by now there is a SL spambot available, which uses libSL for the mass distribution of notecards, group invites, etc.

I just logged in to find three unsolicited group invites, one from the owner of club that I think I last visited six months ago who's throwing a birthday party for himself, and two from the same person promising "Make easy money, free Linden$ for completing surveys!"

Don't just go about your business, take the twenty bloody seconds that it requires to file an AR, otherwise nothing will ever happen. Honestly, there are some lazy so-and-sos on the grid these days. Agreed! I log in to no less than 3 group invites per day. And if I log in, log out, and log in two hours later, there is usually one or two MORE to clean up. I believe it's limited to less than 20 at a time only because my IM's get capped (yes I have logged in to 20 at one time). I A/R every stinking one of them, with screenshot, then IM the group owners with the name and time of the spam so they are aware of this, unless the group owner is the spammer, then I just go through the list in the group, muting every single user in the group. My SL name, due to alphabetical placement, seems to be hit a hundred times per time my alt gets hit with the first two letters of Si. They just go through the damnable people search list and spam every single one. Manually, I can see someone getting tired of it quick (just after the AB's in first names, with my luck), but a bot is a real and scary possibility. Oh what I wouldn't give for just a quiet ad farmer compared to these BLANKETYBLANKs. At least I can block the spinning signs with a screen!!!!!! I am considering ditching the use of my main (just keeping it active for the land and group ownership) because of this, basically never using it again. Which I'd HATE to do, but seems to be the only option I have right now. From: Jessica Elytis Absolutely easy to do. Preferences>>Communication>>Recieve Group Invites On by default, UNchecking this box would block any and all Group invites. So simple to do, which means LL probably will never think of it, heh. ~Jessy Wait, is this an option yet? Please, someone, tell me it is! A

Have you noticed that a large number of the invite senders are brand new accounts, no payment, etc created on the same day the invite was sent?

A Lot of the spam group invitations i receive are for groups Requiring Money to Join. Strangely enough None of those tell me How Much Money. Sorry, this Little lady didn't just fall off the back of a Turnip truck, There is no way I'm going to accept an unsolicited group membership, whether money is required or Not. I'm very careful about the people i associate myself with, so i'm not going to join s group of Unknown purpose, full of people i have never met.
So, what do i do about receiving them? I simply Decline them, That's all. If they persist,( something that hasn't actually happened yet) i would IM the sender, and tell them That i don't know them, and have No interest in Joining their group. Then if necesary, i would Mute them. End of story, End of problem.
Angel.

I suspect the new "Search" is largely responsible for the apparent increase in group invites, as I believe group membership figures into the equation for how things are listed using the "All" tab.
So instead of paying people to sit on camping chairs, you pay them to spam group invites.
