OK question...is it just me, or are there AFK hawks out there just WAITING for someone to be (away from keyboard)?
Yesterday... I was just finishing up setting up my new art gallery at CX's new French quarters on Bourbon Street (Thanks CX!) and I had to step away for a bit to entertain guests in RL...well after my first cup of very tasty coffee, and not realizing what had happened on my computer screen, I heard my grandson hollering for all to hear..."GRANDPA!!! THEY PUT FIRE ON YOU!!!!" I looked up and sure enough that little tyke was starring wide eyed at my computer screen and his mouth had dropped open. I went over there and saw CX and Claire looking all innocent while my avi and half the gallery was ablaze in a roaring fire! It put a grin on my face... I am glad CX has fire insurance!
I am seeing this trend more and more...AFK pranks.
Actually I kind of enjoy it...I figure if they don’t decorate your avi while you are away that is an indicator they don’t like you. It is wonderful to be loved, even to the point where those who love you set you ablaze... (Glad they aren’t my enemies!)
How many of you out there thought about AFK pranks, and what are some of the risks to watch out for when making pranks?

I have begun collecting items in my inventory for just this purpose, Graph. Poor Claire...dancing, or sitting on that stool in the Hangout...afk so many times...

From: Graphicguru Gustav Actually I kind of enjoy it... /me too! Somebody goes AFK while standing (not dancing) on my dance floor, I always get the urge to push them off the floor then build around them. Usually a bidet or a bunny outfit or something.

From: Graphicguru Gustav How many of you out there thought about AFK pranks, and what are some of the risks to watch out for when making pranks? The risk is in determining how crude the prank is versus how hypersensitive the target is. A bad combination could lose you a customer or a friend. What they did to you was hilarious. I think anything that's not exceptionally vulgar would be pretty funny. --Hugsy

Hmm, slide someone out of a skybox club so they returned to dancing alone on the ground below? Most recently, I was wearing my butterfly AV, arrived when a friend was afk so she hadn't seen me yet, I positioned myself behind and above her AV, hopefully between her camera view and herself. Sure enough, she returned to the computer to see a screen full of butterfly...

I'm not good at this game yet. I only tried placing something on someone AFK once, (Joseph) and ended up gifting him a copy of a sock-monkey. I'm sure he thought when he came back "Why the hell did Isabeau give me a sock-monkey? Was this her weird way of flirting with me?" Haven't tried it since.

You have to be sure and rez the item away from the person, or any people, and then move it towards them, placing it as you wish it to be. I have, a couple of times, gifted someone with an item by accident.

This has become a hangout tradition, so be warned. If you go AFK there, you're doomed. The last time I went to use the restroom, in the 3 minutes I was gone, I was turned upside down, hung from the ceiling and decorated like a Christmas tree.
Frankly, I think it never gets old. I'll always decorate someone who is AFK, just for the heck of it. Sometimes I'll decorate them if they're their and I think they're cammed in on something else. They cam back and find a bucket on their head or a fish in their lap or some other nonsense.

/me looks innocently around....who? me?? ok, I admit it, I love decorating afk....i have so much junk, and no energy to clear it, that I have to do something with it lol. I enjoy making little scenes etc. I do try not to be too crude or anything...infact, at times I can be pretty sweet with my afk attacks. And i do try to stick to people I know rather than strangers lol....not sure random afk attacks would be appreciated lol. Though I can take it too...I have been afk'd enough times lol...hell, I fell asleep and they turned me into an Ice Cream lol. The best way to avoid afk pranks, is to sit very still....preferably on a stool or just stand there...tell everyone you are going afk and will be there for a while hehe only joking. Probably is to get your avvie moving...put on a dance that moves you across the floor...It is harder to catch you, and forces me...I mean them to make larger scenes....harder and takes longer. Or stand right in the middle of a group of people....they will have to decorate all the people to decorate just you. Isabeau, try dropping on the ground next to the person and then dragging using the positioning arrows...less likely to give it to the person then. PS....The fire wasn't me....the invisiprim was...but the fire wasn't lol.

Thank you LittleMe and Claire. I am now ready for the next Afky. I have a whole folder full of freeby vehicles to dump on the next fool who dares to go off and pee.

I have another idea for the dancers. This is different than my first one, which I know will work. Could you rez a physical wall with an invisible texture in front of and behind them to hold them in place while you decorate them? The wall would get in the way of the decoration - maybe make it waist high.

Somehow, the animation makes the avater sort of phantomy....plus, If you notice when people are dancing, their nametag and voice spot stay where they started off....I don't think SL recognises that the avatar is actually moving... EDIT: just tested it on myself.... It doesn't stop the dancer moving through the physical wall, however, I do have a dance keeping me in n position....While on this dance, I could push myself using the object...

OK then - back to plan one, which will work even when the avatar is moving...I think.
