Hi Maybe this has been discussed, but I can't figure out how to pick the right search parameters. What is involved in adding music to your place inworld? I am thinking of a radio of some sort that you can switch to different types of music according to mood. Sort of like the juke at the hangout, but something tiny and low prim would do Is this doable, even?

yes and there are freebie scripts that do this very well
and it can be in an incrediably attractive textured object or just a simple square plywood prim
if I can remember I can send you a script in a prim later tonight

Technically, you don't even need a prim. Just set the parcel audio stream to an available streaming audio source. It's on the media tab in About Land. An in-world 'radio' just gives you a convenient control for setting this parameter for the parcel.
This assumes, of course, that you on your own parcel. Renters can't always do this, nor can people who share a parcel with others, since there is only one stream allowed per parcel.

For easy station switching according to mood, I love our "The Internet Radio" purchased in world under that name. It searches for music by title, genre, artists, keywords, and several other parameters. Allows for presets without note cards and several other really nice features. Although there is a higher-prim jukebox version, we have the simple "black box" - very low prim.
Prior to getting the radio, I kept a list of URLs from stations I found on Shoutcast and c/p them in the media section of About Land.

Hi
Thanks for the answers.
I should have provided more info. I do not own the parcel (renting from Cristalle) and I want a radio that everyone at our SL home can hear, not just me here at RL home. (Wondering how far this sound would travel - not wanting to annoy the neighbors)
I'm a big fan of ABS Bluescast but the only place I've heard it inworld is Toby's

Add the stations you want and keep a copy of the list in your inventory. To see radio streams on property that is not yours: CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+D. You now see two more words after the word HELP on your SL Toolbar. Click the last one and scroll to the bottom to VIEW ADMIN OPTIONS. Now you can see property URLs in the ABOUT LAND box on anyone's property. Copy the URLs you want to your notecard for the radio. Add your name and anyone else's name you want to operate the radio to the access list. Give the radio to your landlord. Your landlord will place the radio on your property and deed it to the group that owns the land. Now you can use voice commands or touch to change the radio station.

Lias, does Cristalle (the landlord) have to have done anything special ... for example, enabled media controls per rental parcel -- for this to work for the OP? My estate owner has it set up this way, but I was in one place where we could not do it ...
Otherwise, the OP would be modifying music streams for the whole sim, true?

I am assuming the Landowner made parcels for all of her tenants and enabled video and music on all of them. if its a commune setting and its one big parcel with houses on it - then yes it would effect everyone.

What I have done is allowed the residents (not guests) the power to change media on the land, as it is all group owned land. It is a group power that has been enabled. I have also enabled all residents' ability to deed their items to the group, so that they do not have to wait hours for me or my property manager to do it. This is all in an info card that all tenants can check for reference, either as part of a welcome packet or embedded into an info card that is handed out upon rental of the box.

From: Brann Georgia Boy, I wish noob knew what all that means... Ack...sorry about that! And thank you Lindal and Lias Also, our rented land is set up just as Cristalle described and the radio works beautifully...and only those on your land (not the whole sim or neighbors) can hear it.
