some songs to play -

"Simple Song of Freedom" - Bobby Darin

That "freedom, freedom freedom" - song they play on the commercials

"Freedom" by Alice Cooper.

And of course

"Your not the boss of me" by They Might be Giants.

Yea i've been in Gor before, was there for about 6 months and i've never heard of a Gorean Wedding. They often had ooc events in which sometimes a DJ was hired but everything was ooc.

Like Czari said they never really had weddings, things like this were called Free Companionship which they did renew every year but that did not stop the *Man* from making you a slave if you acted like slave. I've seen that happen from a Free Companionship lol.

I was FC'd once on IRC and we strived to do it as close to the books as possible and had this whole long contract written up. Each of us had a representative (a male for me and a female for my FC to make things fair) in the absence of "parents" or family who would normally do those negotiations in the books.

Sooooo...one of my HUGE points was that my FC-to-be would not enslave me and if the contract expired I was to be returned to my standing as a Free Woman. (Also had each of us continuing to hold all our respective properties separately, etc.)

I swear figuring out the points of the contract took WAAAAAYYYY longer than the ceremony...lol.

(I still like the idea of renewing marriages yearly *grins*)

If your not gorean then you have no need to take on gorean ways. As said before if you are hired for playing at a "wedding" then they are not following gorean ways. If they were to follow gorean ways then a DJ would not be needed but the slaves would provide music

I have a friend who plays in Gor and she said that alot of times the parties or receptions that DJs are normally hired for are OOC.

But talk to the one who hired you and find out, since if it is OOC, you just have to be yourself.

Have a book, tells what to do as a guest at different religions' ceremonies. OK, looking... Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, still looking, Methodists, Seven Day Adventists, Unitarian Universalists, sorry, no Gor...

Checked High Priests, too, but no luck. I see that there was a group down in Texas that might have helped you some, but they seem to not be taking direct phone calls right now.

For music, maybe Leslie Gor? "Its my party and I'll cry if I want to" may not fit, though.

Jimbo,
If they hired you to DJ it is bacse someone likes what you do. So do that. Be who you are. That is, after all, what they paid you for.

Ohhh yeah they have this problem with technology. Maybe at the end of the set you should burst into flames.

Only weapons tech. Otherwise, Gor is more technologically advanced than Earth.

I always wondered what was up with the facination with furry boots.

Unless, you know, they're made from furries. That would explain a lot.

Serious answer: Just ask the person who hired you if they have any special requests or want you to behave in any specific way.

It sounds to me that the wedding won't be part of a Gorean roleplay scenario anyway, since the two are not compatible. And I agree that you were probably hired for what you've done in the past, so they are probably expecting you to do what you normally do.

Not Serious Part: You have to admit that it's a pretty funny visual. I see Goreans, a disco ball, maybe the local VA hall that someone rented out and decorated with confetti and streamers.

Come on - that's pretty funny.

Not sure if it's the one you are thinking of but I would suggest Freedom by Richie Havens (the Woodstock version).

Just Try HI ALL

I went to my ex fiance's wedding that used to be a Gor Master and he wanted to return t Gor. That was not a viable life I wanted to leave. So we broke up.

They had a dj and surprisingly it was very much like a wedding. I addressed him as Master out of respect for his position and everyone as "Hi ALL" lol

So it worked out fine

Have fun at the wedding or Free Companion ceremony! My guess is just act normal; they're not going to really care one way or the other.

Just for fun.

I'd probably go to more weddings if there were pinatas. I don't think I've ever seen a pinata at a wedding, but I love that idea.

It's Gor. Maybe they hit a slave with a stick until she goes and fetches a bowl full of candy for them.

I just refuse to believe this wedding is going to be in character. It makes no sense at all. I think the OP will be fine if he just acts like he always does, but if he's really worried, I can't imaging the people who hired him won't give him a little direction.

Thanks for the input guys & gals.

Reading back, i must admit some of this stuff is quite funny & i appologise for my momentary lack of a sense of humour (really not like me)

two songs i'm surprised nobody mentioned: The Soup Dragons - I'm Free & Matt Monroe - Theme from the film, Born Free (i am REALLY tempted to open or even close the show with that little gem)

anyway, after speaking with the organiser. The event is OOC, so no harm done.

so, with my sense of humour reattached to my left eyeball slot. . . . . any more record suggestions ?

I found it interesting when i was in Gor and becoming an FC how hard it was to get a "traditional " gorean ceremony. We had to hunt to find someone who knew how to do it. There is not alot in the books about it but after reading and talking to some people we were able to pull it off.
Slaves were very much at the back of the room after all no FW wanted them about on her special day. After we had drinks at the tavern served by slaves who were covered more than usual. Later we all went out of the gorean sim to a party at a friends where we were OOC.

Many choose to have more a wedding then an FC ceremony but I for one was glad we took the trouble to make it all IC
