There used to be an option(maybe there still is) that says "I already have an account in SL" and it would cause you to pay $10 for your alt. As far as I know, it's still illegal to have an unpaid alt and LL reserves the right to ban both your alt and main.

Funny that an SL Mentor would have such out of date information.

The sign in doesn't even ask if this another alt, they don't ask you to pay.
Heck when I reactivated Dagon Grimm through customer service I asked if I need to pay to reactivate him and they said not to worry about it...no charge. I thought they were just being nice but then I noticed last alt there was nothing there to pay for a alt like before...unless I want to go premium.
If you don't believe try to create alt...one without the special group thing.

Speaking as someone who has created 3 alts in the past 3 months.....NO YOU DON"T HAVE TO PAY AND THERE IS NO OPTION TO PAY.

Why won't people believe us?

It’s their freaking “I’m the main. I’m superior. I hold the cash. What’s an ALT know?” attitude.
No respect I tell ya. No respect.

So can you change the email address on an alt, but not the others?
And If I delete an existing one of 5 alts can I create another ok to replace it or am I down to 4?

heyas;

people are confused, because if you go to the billing and pricing page, it says right on the chart that extra basic accounts cost ten bucks. whether they're enforcing it or not, whether they changed it or not, the official information is, it costs. and yeah, it also has dire warnings about you and your alt being banned and cancelled and they take all your money and blah blah blah.

scary!

btw, no, they DONT ask your real name on the sign up. avatar name, your birthdate, and your email address. i presume if i use the same email for me and my alt they can figure out its me. they can bill me then, if they really want to. since these alternate orientation locations dont LET me use my main email.... well, that's hardly my fault now, is it?
and the 'this is my second (third, fourth, fifth...) account' button? it doesn't exist.

I had never seen that you could join through communities before. When I created alts I just clicked the join button on the right, or the join link at the top right next to the resident login link. So the process has alway been pretty straightforward to me. And yes, they ask for your REAL name.

But the communities portal looks interesting. They have a Ben and Jerry's community? What is that all about?

Yes I have set up my alts with different email addresses, with no problems.
Actually I start using an old email account that references my RL name, then I change them to DaQbets email, that way I have everything in one location.
I don’t believe you can really delete an account. LL can lock or suspend a account but its not like you can find a delete/erase button and poof no more “insert name here”.
There are people with more then 5 accounts. So really you would not be down to 4 but up with 6.

There is no charge right now for an alt, and they DO ask for your real life name. I'm not sure about a 5 avatar limit per person since I only have my main and one alt. I used a different e-mail address for my alt, and even a different payment method when I made her premium, but that was more for my own benefit then because LL required it. I think you can delete an account. I had, at one point, made another alt and then never really followed through with anything and eventually deleted that account. Not sure about LL deleting them, though.

In some way this post doesnt make sence. Because llabs said each account is unrelated now. Well if you have alt i assume that your held repouncible for its actions. But for payment etc......well...........As someone said earlier who really knows.

How long can my Second Life account remain inactive before it's deleted?
As long as you're in good standing with Linden Lab -- not delinquent with billing or otherwise in violation of the Community Standards and Terms of Service -- your Second Life account can remain inactive indefinitely. This means that your avatar and inventory will continue to be stored on our servers.
Generally, Basic accounts can be left alone if you're not going to log in for a long time, while Premium accounts need to be paid for accordingly, including tier fees for land holdings, or risk being put on hold and deleted.

I’m just curious that if by Deleted they mean the name is removed from search as well?

I've tried a few times but I cannot create a 6th account on my original email.
