Right now the concurrency number is coming down quite significantly. It was in the low 70ks earlier but now it's down to 66,866 and this is still in the peak period for the day. It normally gets up to 79k+ but it hasn't been near that tonight. You don't suppose that Jack told a couple of helpers to go out and kill a few bots to keep folks happy, do you?

Actually, he did mention at his office hour that they've started enforcing the policy.

It's now at 65.624 so I think the bot thing has kicked in.

ya i'm sure some still don't know about the change..some never will..
kind of like on those islands where those guys thought the war was still going on 50 years after it was over..

someone had to actually go find them and tell them it was over and they still thought it was a trick to get their spot they were guarding..

I think everyone had a pretty tough winter, and now spring has finaly sprung

I think so... that place in seymour seems pretty empty tonight.

I just checked around on a few blogs, and can't find it ~ I think there was a great slide in a presentation by Babbage Linden... but it seems obvious to me that grid performance was limited by the number of concurrent avatars on the grid. As in: the grid failing on the weekends when everyone is on and trying to do stuff.

Generally bots have a different impact, either a lot more or a lot less than your average person depending what the bot is doing, but at the end of the day it's still some resource demand there.

Ultimately if there's say, 20,000 bots eliminated we may see that replaced by some number of humans. Who tend to spend a lot more money on the grid than bots...

...as such, this day was bound to come.

The highest for the week has usually been on a Sunday evening between 1pm-3pm PDT....it got to 90k a couple weeks before Jack's policy announcement. Let's see this Sunday what it is.

I reported a few bots trapped under the Bear Infohub for three days. Some Governance guy showed up and got a few of them. But others showed up to take their place. So I think the Governance Team has been dispatched to kill the bots. Like super heroes.

We had an unusually busy weekend a week or two ago, though.

We had an unusually busy weekend a week or two ago, though.

That time included two bank holiday weekends in the UK and at least 1, Mayday, in Europe.

I've been running Search / Places / Furniture up the flagpole at various opportunities. THe last time was in front of a Linden.

Looking at those high-rankers right now, I see places that used to have 80 bots now having a mere 60 bots, but of course still ranking up where they used to be.

WOWSA!

ARMAGEDDON!!

MY ARSE!!

IF Jack has told the G-Team to start zapping (Weeks aftere they said that they would start to do so) then their process is sub-optimal.

Add:
Quite apart from the bots, some of those places spew Mature content at results even if Mature is unchecked.

GO G-TEAM !!!!!!

Progress has been slow for sure, but I don't mind it taking a few weeks or months before things kick in. I assume LL are slowly getting the word out to people and some of them are arguing or being difficult or just choosing to ignore the warnings so it'll take the usual tedious round of -

a) warning
b) second warning
c) one day suspension
d) one week suspension
e) complete ban

before the really obnoxious traffic bot users start to clear up.

The micro parcel policy was similarly slow paced but we're seeing reasonable results so far with pretty graphs and whatnot to prove it's working so I'm comfortable with the way things are.

It seems to me that there's a fundamental difference between the adfarmers and medium to major trafficbot runners. The adfarmers knew that their time was up and so they could hang on and argue etc. to gain a bit more time. But mid to major traffic bot runners do it because it's financially rewarding and, imo, it's unlikely that they would decide that the business would end when the bots are retired. So they don't want to be risking any sort of action on LL's part. They could safely wait until the first warning (the blog said that a warning would be issued), but they'd be very foolish to keep the bots running after that. They wouldn't know what the next action would be.

I'm not, having seen a plot go on sale for L$9900 since the policy was announced and seeing LL take no action I'm not at all happy with this slow pace, if something as blatant as that is ignored it seems LL are relying on the good nature of micro parcel sellers rather than having a policy with any teeth.

Well, firstly there's always going to be "a" microparcel, "a" traffic bot they're never going to get rid of them all.

Secondly, LL don't give a crap about some test parcel you set up, they explicitly said don't bother reporting them. They're looking at this based on who the large owners of 16s are and contacting them directly instead of going after each 16 individually. It's no crime to have a 16 for sale for L$9900. It's only a violation of this policy if you cut a ton of land into tiny pieces and set it all for sale.

He is one of the big micro parcel cutters and this parcel wasn't for sale before the new policy kicked in, it was sat there doing nothing. He's clearly taking the mick.

I'll believe they are killing off all the bots when concurrency gets down to around 30,000.

I thought it was posted somewhere in the blogs that they are not going to start zapping the bots. They want resident feedback (cough cough). It was also stated that there are good uses for bots but I don't think they stated what they are.

This was all somewhere in their blogs, but I can't find it so I'm going by memory

There were two blogs about it. The first was asking for feedback and the second was the result of that..

edit: blog searching definitely took a big step backwards with the new & improved blog software.. :(
