There was a 16m ad lot next to my place that had been for sale at L$99,999 for over a year, with 3 tall ads stacked above it. With the new rule change, the ads disappeared a few days ago but the land remained on sale at the ridiculous price until today, when it was for sale by a different owner at L$129. Needless to say I bought it and incorporated it into my home parcel.

(O_O) ... Now THAT'S a change FTW. (^_^)

Now that the land-gra.... adfarms are dying... Is now a good time to consider buying land? I'm starting to believe that I'm not gonna fall out of SL any time soon and there's a chance that I can actually spend monies on this stuff. I would LOVE to have a seaside parcel. I gotta totally spell this out to my RL family. (=_=)

Oh, the temptation. (^_^)y

Same thing happened on one of my parcels. Two of the 16m changed hands and popped up for sale. A third suddenly became property of Gov Linden, who sold it to me for $L16.

I still have two 16m parcels stuck in my land. I spoke at length to one of the owners. She never would give me a straight answer as to why she insists on owning one 16m parcel on each Sim. Maybe someone here can shed some light. The other owner will not respond to IMs.

Both of these owners insist (in the group description) they are not ad-farmer they just want to own one parcel on each SIM.

The whole deal has me puzzled. I don't see any benefit to owning these little parcels, since the Linden's have decided to stop the extortion rackets.

The only thing I can think of is that the person wants a small parcel upon which to put some sort of sensing or metrics device where it won't be returned, if they're not using it for advertising. Also, you can still set your home to be one of these tiny parcels - though I can't imagine why you'd want to do that, unless you were running bots that needed a home to teleport to.

Often you can arrange a trade with them for another 16m plot that may be better for you.

SL premium account... $10.

New video card for SL... $200.

Seeing the ad spamming market collapse overnight?.... priceless.

Congrats on your new purchase, please put better use to it! :P

Sadly most ad farms are too small to be worth while buying in of themselves to 'live' on. However one next door is certainly worth buying to add to your existing land (as the poster above did)

*claps excitedly* yay for mainland

I made such a trade just to get one of them out of the center of the plot. The land these two occupy is still worthless. Moving them to another part of the sim would only ruin the value of the land in that location. Right now they are on the border of the SIM and on the edge of a much larger plot. That is as far out of the way as I can get them to move.

I've not checked the amount for the one next to my temporary project land, tho I saw before the trees rezzed in that she's put more ads on it. Meh. If it's still a stupidly large price then she can go cry on granny's carpet :)

Couldn't they be used for storage so one doesn't have to carry around so much inventory?

Yes, a small plot can be used to rez a few back-up storage boxes or a SLExchange or Shop Onrez server box.

There are no prim objects on the property.

Are we allowed to have more than one Home Location?

Omg! Does this mean that I have a reason to go premium now?! I only want a small parcel of land, just the 512 that is granted for going premium. I went land shopping before even considering it and all I could find that I could actually afford was crap surrounded by ads and signs so I nixed the thought. Maybe I could actually find something small and sweet now!

A box full of objects, if taken to your inventory, only counts as 1 item. So there's no need to store stuff on your land!

What about giant spinning "for sale" signs? They are pretty ugly too...

They are covered, too. ANYthing which goes way out of its way to make you want to buy out that little 16 parcel for some ridiculous price is still covered under this rule.

I have ARed one of the neighboring ad farmers 3 times now. He finally stopped putting up his ugly ad cubes and single spinning yellow giant for sale signs, and is now putting up THREE giant spinning yellow for sale signs.

He just doesn't get it. That's OK. He will. I would expect that he will be showing up on the blotter soon with a 7-day suspension.

I saw a "Land for Sale" sign with the text in a horrible Rockwell font, when everyone knows that Arial is much clearer and friendlier. The sign was draped below a cherrywood crossbar, which is *so* 2006 and the flowers in the potted plant were daisies and clashed terribly with the terracotta.

:)

512 meters is NOT GRANTED by going premium. Owning 512 meters TIER FREE is granted by going premium. You still have to buy the land on your own; you just won't pay tier for it. Just lettin' ya know. ;)

Yep, yep...thanks! meant to say that...hehe. I've done much land research and up to this point pissed away the thought due to the only affordable land I've found always seemed to be in a crappy ad farm....or surrounded by for sale signs which I suppose will always be the case for a lot this small. And skyboxes just don't appeal much to me, nor does paying tier in addition to the price of a premium account. I've been renting a nice big piece of land anyway and have actually been very happy with it.

Some may call me cheap, but I would rebutt by saying that it's more a lack of the know. I've only been out here since August, and up until recently have been too busy goofing and learning everything else there is to learn.
