Well I'm glad its not just me... after getting aggravated with the triangular shapes from all directions through my screen I found the blog post offering the previous viewer. I uninstalled the recent, reinstalled the previous then found I got to 'logging in' then nothing more. Good to see (actually 'bad' to see) others complaining of the same issues.

I don't think its just the new viewer. Only issue i had last night with the new viewer was if I accidentlay wore a box on my head, when I detached it it would take my hair and scalp and not return it.

Oh well, at least I finally loaded a pic in my forum profile...

this just in from the blog:

[8: 34 PM] We have investigated network issues and determined connectivity issues with one of our service providers. Contact has been made and they are working to resolve this.

I had been on all night and only in the last hour did I notice suddenly I was getting a lot of gray textures.....nothing was wrong tho.....no lag...performance was fine......then I couldn't try on a hair demo so was like....oookkkkay.....issues....time to log. And yeah, sure enough....but it's a server issue as the blog states.

Thinking back to when I worked for an international research company with a web site and a mega computer room with some serious servers..... seems to me there wa sa team of people working on those servers 24/7 to keep that company afloat.....and there were problems at times...BIG problems.
This was a building of maybe 200 employees.......I can only imagine what it takes to keep SL going 24/7. No, actually I can't, so i don't waste any time bitching about it cause I know dam well I couldn't do it.

Sorry, I just don't buy the arguement that it's so complex these failures are expected. This is their business. How many times do you find Amazon.com down? What kind of downtime would they consider acceptable??

i couldn't get in. it told me my older viewer was no longer supported. I love the new viewer except things seem to be grey for longer and weird things have been happening. SL must think i look tired because this morning the word recline shoots across my screen - from left to right and then back again...

BUT....here's the GOOD news! Each and every "issue" is successfully trademarked; the winners to the "SL Illegal Gambling Lottery" are posted; and there are no more "shady" banks! Now THOSE are issues. :: sighing as I sit back and watch the clock tick away any hope of making a profit today :: Oh wait, did that sound bitter?

Edited to remove unnecessary sarcasm--any that remains is strictly in the eye of the Linden reading it

They have now put a halt to new logins. So if you crash....don't expect to get in anytime soon.

Only LL and crew are able to get in now. All other logins are locked out. I was in earlier for a brief time...unable to TP, unable to change clothes or hair, unable to sit, unable to take a dump. SL is constipating me (no anal probes please). heading for the bed and putting on my tinfoil hat... setting the alarm to not go off.

/me waves at Graph

Also.....if you do try to login......look at the screen....notice that they took the red 'mandatory' off the new version and replaced it with 'A new update is available and we recommend...blah blah blah'

Interesting

TIME FOR A NEW SERVICE PROVIDER!

I mean we have these outtages every week. There seems to be ZERO redundency in anything. I mean I don't expect every sim to be running on two machines but there seems to be far to many LARGE single failure points.

And it just goes on and on and on. Each fire put out and the sweat hasn't even dried from the admins hands before the next one starts. Are there any plans for REALLY fixing this?

As Allegria said, there are a ton of high profile high traffic sites that would put SLs bandwidth to shame that have FAR fewer problems.

Is this a money issue? Can SL not afford better service? Or do they need to get a real networking company to come in and straigten the system out?

SL needs to let us know what they are doing long term to stop this from happening every week.

I know I'm preaching to the choir (or barking at a brick wall, one or the other) :) but.. guess I'll practice my flying for tomorrow instead.

You sound like ya need to pop into a few Linden Events. Half the complaints ain't clear enough like this, so they can dance around the answers. When asked today if manpower was the problem, Sidewinder Linden AND CG Linden (Head Linden in charge of RCs) both said "No" at the same time, so wth???

They must be in denial. This is an ongoing project w/ updates rollin' out so quick they can't keep up. Faster than World of Warcraft or anybody else...not enough time to kick mosta the bugs out.

These other companies don't have these problems as much, even with many more customers. I guess having the users make new content everyday could make it tougher, but prims are prims and LSL has been the same for a long time right?

They should have a better system after all these years
